After touring Palenque ruins, we decided to stay just outside the gate in a cute little community, El Panchán( almost immediate right out of the park entrance) we found Margarita & Ed's at the end of a windy dirt road. We stayed in the newer section with spacious rooms, private baths and air conditioning. That evening, we were escorted to a great local restaurant that was outside with good food and live music. The managing family was very accommodating the next morning and set out a table and chairs and offered us coffee and we chatted for longer than we meant to! The manager even called the local authorities to make sure it was safe for us to drive to another local attraction. We loved it so much we are thinking of returning and spending a few days just relaxing.
This place is so nice, the owners are really helpful. Also recently they opened up their kitchen to all heists which is nice to meet people and to travel on a low budget. The owner changed about a year ago, the new owners are Mexican and very welcoming, relaxed and easy-going. Good for backpackers also or bikepackers like us!
These jungle cabañas and rooms are comfortable and peaceful. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I was here 8 years ago, and I am so happy that I returned. The cabañas are right next to the entrance of Palenque ruins, so it is easy to visit them.

I stayed in one of the basic rooms (300 pesos per night) of Margarita and Ed's hotel. There was a ceiling and normal fan, a private bathroom, a comfy bed, and a desk. I stayed there 6 days, and those were great. The area is very quiet, and I slept like a log. The only minus of the hotel is poor outdoors lighting, which makes it rather complicated to reach the hotel at night, so have a flashlight when going for dinner at Don Mucho's.

Best of the cabanas in the jungle. Simple and comfortable, clean facilities. Margaritas hospitality and help was incredible, can't ask for much more. Loved the lush gardens and howling by night. Great spot to explore the ruins.

This hostel is perfect for a couple of days in El Panchan and visiting the Palenque Ruins. It’s only 2.5km to the entrance to the ruins. The rooms was really clean and spacious with a ceiling fan. The fan kept it cool enough as the building was quite shaded by the forest already. We had a private bathroom and towels included, which were changed when the room was cleaned very day. Only downside was the receptionist Antonia, Margarita’s sister. She really isn’t a people person and made the whole check in and payment process hard work. We don’t speak fluent Spanish and she doesn’t speak English but it could have been so much better if she was just bothered / interested in you or her job. But don’t let her put you off, it’s a great find of a hostel! TIP: you have to call to make a reservation or just rock up. We got a Spanish speaker to call for us as we don’t speak Spanish, it’ll be needed. They answered the phone straight away. …

If you’re going to El Panchan, Margarita & Ed’s is the place to stay! It is incredibly clean, has hot water, and very friendly staff. You can’t make a reservation, but Margarita or another employee is in the office from 7:30am-10:00pm, so just go up and hope for availability when you arrive at El Panchan! There are many private rooms available. The price is usually between $200-$400 pesos per night, and it is definitely worth it. Margarita speaks English, and she arranged tours for us (definitely go on a jungle walk with Don Pedro!). We were two young women traveling alone and we felt safe there. There are a few other cabanas/hostels in El Panchan, but Margarita’s is the best.

This hostal is so close to the entrance of the Palenque ruins, Margarita receive us and was very helpful when we were in the room, we can feel is quite humid but do not matters, you can see they take care a lot about this situation and the whole room was completely clean, private bathroom (hot water) and a very good price for this.

I stayed there for 2 days with my girlfriend. Margarita was super lovely and helped me with a documentary project of mine to film in El Naranjo. The place is super clean and located directly next to the ruins. I was very satisfied!

Worst experience I had in three months in Mexico. The room was dirty and had a cocroach, and they made my husband and me miss a flight! We left our bags in their office saying we will be back to take them at 13:00 to go to the airport. When we came back from Palenque, no one was in the hotel and no one was answering the phone. When the owner came back - one hour later - we already missed our flight to Mexico City. Worst thing : she didn't even apologize. We were obviously angry, but instead of simply saying "I'm sorry" - she started being aggressive, cursing us and telling us to leave. She said check out finishes at 11:00 - but didn't explain why we were not told that when we left. I rarely write reviews, especially bad ones, but this is a horrible place that should be avoided.…
