I loved everything about the place. Have wanted to stay for ages but it's often fully booked. Our arrival was slightly off-putting as non working staff were in reception and we stood around wondering what to do. Didn't take long before someone came along and checked us in. Clear instructions about our room, how to get there, the pools, temperatures and where to find the restaurant. Our room, the least expensive on hotel complex, was perfect. The bed was by far the most comfortable I've slept in, with down pillows and duvet. The newly renovated bathroom was elegant. The clearly labeled toiletries meant I could read them without my glasses on (yay!) and tea selection was superb. And I used to be in the industry so this is high praise. Topped off by artfully folded robes and towels and a clever robe hooks from rock, a theme throughout the complex. Headed for the pools in my fluffy white robe. They were as described, 4 pools of varying temperatures with hot and cold showers outdoor to dip under between pools, as well as a cold plunge pool. The water had the faint whiff of soothing Sulphur and runs permanently through the pools. No stagnating water. There is natural algal growth on rocks. The pools themselves are visually and physically pleasing. Built to replicate a Japanese onsen, which they absolutely do. They're open 24hrs to guests and would be lovely in snow, rain, summer or winter. I didn't try the sauna so cannot comment although it looked very popular. I wasn't sure if we could get a glass of wine but headed up to the lounge area. Sure enough, drinks were available from a carefully selected range, in keeping with the ethos of the complex. I agree with an earlier reviewer that the dinner service wasn't explained but it didn't take long to understand. Food was delicious, not huge quantities for a big eater but we were happy. We were warmly greeted at checkout and truly enjoyed our stay. Yes, there is no cellphone coverage nor WIFI or TV. Take a book, pack of cards and relax into it. This property is many miles from anywhere, to provide the quality and range of services on offer costs more than if it were located elsewhere. Accept that fact or don't stay. We'll definitely return. …
We stayed one night - we were upgraded to a superior room. It was newly renovated, comfy bed, big tv, lovely bathroom and plenty of hot water and great heating in the room. A nice touch in the room was a Nespresso machine with free pods and a big selection of teas! We had the mountain journey dinner, very delicious and breakfast the next day at restaurant was also fantastic. We found the staff to be friendly, attentive and helpful and food service was fast. Hot pools were great - loved being able to go into the hot pools at anytime over night. An amazing stay - thank you maruia springs!
Beautiful, peaceful place to stay. Rooms very clean, updated and very comfortable bed. Evening meal was beautiful. The only thing that let our visit down was we waited over 40 minutes for breakfast and when it finally came the eggs were hard boiled. The waitress said they were putting more on for us but we couldn't wait as had a booking for a facial. It was disappointing that our morning ended up not being very relaxing due to what appeared to be a shambles in the restaurant
We had a lovely time. Very relaxing with no phones. Food was good. Glamping pod was super cozy. The coolest thing is that all the power is generated on site by hydroelectricity, so very green! Also let us charge our electric vehicle on-site overnight
Pools were amazing, hiring of bathrobes and towels very expensive and they were so old and worn they had holes in them. Restaurant staff had poor customer service and did not explain how it worked. We waited over an hour for drinks and meal even after us brining this to staff attention.
I came after harvest it was my treat to myself I was told about this place so had to go. The hot pools were cold the indoor pool was shut off the only good things was my glamp pod massage and sauna and I did a couple of sauna classes
We had lunch, swim and sauna on a wet cold day. It was wonderful. Great facilities, lunch was delicious, pools were amazing and all in the most beautiful alpine setting. Such a treat, and cocktails with local ingredients in the lounge to follow were great too.
Excellent location to release stress and recharge the battery. We booked a two-day package which included a glamping pod with an incredible view of the mountain/river, breakfast and dinner, plus the hot pools/yoga sessions. We booked a beautiful deep tissue massage at the start, which was the best start to a relaxing vacation. The meals are perfectly cooked and reflect the health theme of the retreat. The pools are natural and contain algae and minerals (plus many more), and have positive health effects. Further, the offered tap water is the best you can find as it is untreated and comes straight from the adjacent mountain!
Alcohol a wee bit pricey Tea and coffee not included in breakfast charged extra,Room was clean and in good repair, Staff were excellent, Pools and activities especially satisfying and plenty to do Awesome trip we will be repeating this in the near future
Overall great experience. We wanted to join the day retreat package but the start timing indicated in the website was too early. We showed up just in time for the sauna infusion class and took the day retreat package even though we had only 3 hours to spare . Highly recommended The body scrub at the end of the sauna infusion was awesome . Website failed to inform us we had to bring own own slippers. The buildings are not clearly sign posted. There was hardly anyone around to ask for directions. Was challenging walking around barefooted
