We had been into Midhurst and didn't fancy eating at any of the High Street pubs so we drove out and tripped across the Elsted Inn. When we walked in there was a very pleasant welcome from the lady behind the bar and we took a table in the restaurant. We only wanted a light lunch and some of the...

We booked a table but on arrival wasn't needed! We were the only ones in the restaurant area although others, definitely regulars, were eating at the bar. It was quite funny when we entered as the door opened straight into the bar and into the locals drinking there. It was rather a tumbleweed moment. The owners were very friendly and...

The Elsted Inn is a traditional pub in an area we don't know very well. We went there because they told us they could cater for a vegan, which one of our group is. A very warm welcome from the landlord and even though he's a football referee that didn't put us off! The choice of proper beers was good,...

Called a couple of hours before going to ask about a vegan option. No problem we were told. We had not given enough notice for a starter to be prepared and the vegetable soup had been made with cream so no good for me. They made me a lovely dinner of roasted peppers stuffed with couscous and black beans, with...

With a group of friends on a day out we happened upon The Elsted Inn. They were very busy but found space for nine of us to eat at very short notice and with no fuss. Excellent food (belly pork for Sunday lunch was delicious) Generous portions, good cellar, great service & lovely staff. We were just passing through but...

We had not been to this pub for ages, and were pleasantly surprised. It is relaxed but nicely decorated, with good food and beers and friendly staff. Home made mulled wine was a welcome start. Not a vast amount of choice for vegetarians, but all food eaten was nice.Good walking directly from the pub. You can stay here also.

We've been regular visitors to The Elsted Inn since we moved to West Sussex 4 years ago. Malcolm & Lisa are wonderful hosts. Food is delicious, beer is well kept, atmosphere is just what we want from a village pub. Dog friendly too.

As I was parking, the owner came out to greet me by name asking if I needed help with my bags. You don't normally get that service for 70 quid a night! The room was charming - no it wasn't huge and lavish, but it was a comfortable clean delightful room with everything you needed, including tea/coffee and quality toiletries....

My Canadian friend and I were on the second day of the South Downs Way and stayed here as I had stayed the previous year when doing the walk alone. On that occasion it had been the best pub/accommodation of the six day walk and this year proved the same. From the friendly welcome on arrival to the excellent rooms,...

Malcolm and Lisa really took care of us after we arrived, worn out from walking the South Downs Way. They gave us bath salts to help with our achy muscles and fed us fantastic food and the best home made ice cream we have ever had! The room was very comfortable and beautiful - if you are walking the SDW...
