If you want total peace and quiet, make the pilgrimage to L’Evidence, hidden away down narrow country lanes (N-102, turn south onto D-19, turn south again onto D-223, through the tiny village of Prades, another kilometre and watch for the small sign to the B&B). It’s worth the effort. The peace may be temporarily shattered by the barking of the house’s enormous but ridiculously harmless Swiss farm-dog, but the rural peace soon settles in again. There’s a small but enjoyable pool to cool down in, the rooms are also cool but spacious and skilfully converted. At night the silence of the Ardèche woodland wraps itself around the house completely. Dinner is ten kilometres away in Aubenas (wide choice there) and a return drive through the lanes in the dark better avoided. Breakfast happens on the terrace, the lady of the house presenting a panoply of delectable home-made jams and yoghurts. A true escape to the country.…

I stayed a couple of nights in the Zermatt chalet and found it comfortable, well equipped and charming. I also visited the others rooms that are a very different style but just as nice. The pool is situated very close by and offers a pretty and well groomed garden with plenty of sun loungers. It is the perfect place to rest after a long walk before supper. I must absolutely mention supper. In my opinion the "pièce de résistance" of l'Évidence is clearly Christine and her meals. Be it with other guests or alone with her, you will be delighted with delicious french cuisine and interesting discussions. Her food is excellent but not over the top with complications. You immediately feel at home and confortable ... a perfect getaway. You also understand why so many regulars come back to visit. L'Evidence is exactly what you would expect from a "chambre d'hôtes": Nice rooms, calm location, excellent food and good company!! Need I say more?…

Third time being here. We have the Zanzibar room and it is great. The view, the space, the bathroom. What more do you need to enjoy nature and mountains. Christine is a great host and prepares wonderful food. Being here feels like being a king and queen in France.

We had a great time at L'Evidence. The B&B is (provided you are by car) close to the Gorges d'Ardeche. In the nearby area there are lots of characteristic small villages. It's a beautiful landhouse surrounded by a paradisal garden. You can lay by the pool or sit on the terrace and enjoy the extraordinary view on the hills. Dinner (table d'hôtes) is very recommendable: host Christine cooks the most delicious meals. We also enjoyed breakfast: fresh croissants and a wide choise of selfmade marmalades. We felt truly pampered here and would recommend this bed & breakfast to anyone!

I only stayed for one night in the Zanzibar room, it was very spacious with a large bathroom and main room. With views over the pool and surrounding countryside. The location is beautifully tranquil and very quiet at night.The homemade food was delightful and all made with locally sourced meat and vegetables. This is definitely worth a stay if you are thinking of visiting the area.

We stayed for four nights at L'Evidence at the beginning of September 2013. Our room was Zanzibar, a spacious, tastefully decorated and well-appointed room with a very comfortable double bed, a large bathroom, and a fine view across the pool of mountains in the distance. L'Evidence's location in a forested area on a mountain side a little to the west of Aubenas meant that it was a very quiet location, particularly at night. Yet it was only 10 minutes by car to the centre of Aubenas and within easy driving distance from many of the main attractions of the Ardèche - gorges, caves, perched villages, etc. A highlight of our stay were the evening meals - always generous, varied and making good use of local produce. Christine is a welcoming host and a talented cook. Highly recommended.

C'est magnifique! The picturesque setting, ambient accommodations and warm and welcoming hostess made our travel experience at L'Evidence a highlight of our six week European trip. Christine provides her guests with spacious rooms that are bright and breezy. Her well landscaped lodging radiates charm and delight with blooming flowers and shrubs--not to mention the pick your own cherries from the trees along the parking area. Christine is a consummate hostess, who is knowledgeable about the history, geology and geography of the area. Fluent in a number of languages, she easily helps her guests learn about the sites and eating places; she even drove us to some of them and gave us insightful narratives. I highly recommend Christine and L'Evidence to anyone looking for a home base from which to tour this magnificent area.…

Nestled in nature, close to hiking, kayaking, biking and Ardeche adventure, l'Evidence will spoil you for any other B&B! The food is superb and copious, the landscaping filled with flowers and fruit trees. A very warm welcome awaits the adventurer in spacious, beautifully appointed rooms. Sit on the deck area, looking out at the terraced countryside, or relax by the pool and let all the tension melt away! Christine, whose English is as good as her French, is the consummate hostess and she knows the countryside. If you need travel tips, she will help, but if you prefer seclusion, it will be yours.
