Initial thoughts: Came here with my partner for 4 nights in November for some winter sun. Before going I’ll admit we were both a little worried by all the negative reviews we had seen on here. We only booked this hotel initially as a very cheap escape at the end of the year. We had been to mainland Spain a couple of times in 2023 so wanted something different to end the year with so found this for a very good price and just went with it. Firstly I have to say ignore most of the reviews. Yes there are bad points but a holiday is what you make it. I’ll elaborate on this later in this review. We arrived at 11am and were told we could get our All-Inclusive bands at 12 and our room at 2. The lobby was lovely and we could instantly tell that the hotel would be clean. I’m sure everybody can agree that the Spanish have a very high level of cleanliness. This carried on throughout the hotel. Yes it could do with a bit of money spent on it, but it is clean. Room: We had read some bad things about the Duplex rooms and upon double checking our booking we realised we had one…I emailed and asked to upgrade to a pool view room but was told they were fully booked so we requested a renovated one if possible. When we got there we were luckily given one of the duplexes that had been renovated and split into 2 small rooms. It was essentially a hotel room featuring a tv, 2 single beds pushed together, a wardrobe and fridge. A balcony with a gorgeous sea view and table and chairs and a bathroom which was lovely and modern but unfortunately didn’t have a bath. It got very warm in the room during the day and at night we had to sleep with the balcony doors open but it was easily bearable. Although I can’t imagine what it would have been like had it been the height of summer. We could have rented a fan for the duration of our trip but this cost extra and we figured it would only blow around warm air. We did hear from other guests that a couple of the renovated rooms have air con so it’s just luck of the draw really. The room also contained a safe but again this was an extra charge so we just locked our valuables in our suitcase. The room was just somewhere to sleep so it really didn’t have too much of an effect on our trip, it was clean and modern and served its purpose. Amenities: The hotel has a very large outdoor pool, but I have to say it was pretty damn cold! And also salt water. It was also around 5ft deep all around with no shallow at all, so for any weak swimmers or children you’d have to be very cautious. I say the pool was cold but honestly once you’re in it’s fine, by the second day I had adjusted to just holding my breath and taking the plunge. The pool needs a bit of a refurb, with paint peeling off the bottom and the run off areas around always ended up with a green slime in by the end of the day. But I guess that’s the dirt and sun cream and what not coming off of the people. But it’s something I’ve never witnessed from other pools. There was a limited number of sun loungers and most were taken pretty early in the day but fortunately me and my partner had no problems finding one every day we were there. There was a pool bar that had 1 overworked barman at a time but they all did really well at keeping the queue down. Usually making you wait just a couple of minutes. There is a 2 drink limit per person but that didn’t seem like much of a problem to be honest. There were a good selection of drinks but the ‘cocktails’ were pre mixed in jugs and honestly didn’t taste of alcohol so we avoided them most of the time unless we just fancied something fruity. There was a swim up section of the bar but they appeared to not serve from that part and it was more so somewhere to sit and drink your drink while staying in the pool. The hotel also featured a small selection of shops and services including a self service laundrette, a gift shop, a small shop for everything else and a beauty parlour. My partner used the beauty parlour on the first day and was extremely happy with the service. She paid just €5 to get her eyebrows waxed and said the woman that did them was fantastic and she spent the whole holiday checking herself out in the mirror haha. The reception were very helpful at every point of the trip, whether it was advice on the local area or ordering taxis. Nothing ever felt too much. All of the staff at the hotel seem to do some crazy hours but somehow manage to keep a smile on their faces and uphold good manners. They are a credit to the hotel to be honest. Entertainment: Hmm I’m not quite sure what to say about the entertainment. There was one bloke running it all and he was great. Full of character and always trying to encourage people to try everything out. Unfortunately the options just weren’t that good. The daytime was a mixture of water aerobics, pool games, darts, table tennis etc. and the nighttime was things like disco, karaoke, quiz, bingo etc. but unfortunately you can see the hotel hasn’t invested much money in this part. The PA system was sub par providing muffled audio from the microphone, the room the entertainment was in had no air con so everyone was sweating and there was only 1 bartender on so drinks could be slow at times. The evening entertainment also didn’t seem to start until 9-9:30 so not too good if you were hoping to entertain children. Food: Now this is always the important part of all of my reviews. Me and my partner are both Vegan and we are well aware All-Inclusive holidays are not catered for us. But everywhere we go we manage to get by. This place was a struggle. Firstly breakfast, we had a small selection of fruit and salad, along with baked beans and toast. But no plant based/vegan butter. So my partner found herself starting most days with a few pieces of mid tier fruit and myself opting for dry toast with some baked beans on top. Something as simple as vegan butter would have changed that meal for me. Sounds silly but dry toast on a hang over is rough haha. There was a decent enough selection for everybody else though, a good mix of traditional English along with continental pastries and what not. Snack time was okay though. There was always burgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and chips. But. There was also bread, salad, ham and cheese. So you could make yourself a sandwich. We were very happy to see this as we could make a salad sandwich to help us get by until the next meal. Although as with the breakfast we had no vegan butter so had to accept it would be a dry sandwich. Lunch/Dinner were almost identical. But this is again where I cannot comment on everybody else’s food. We made friends with a fair few people and they all said the food was good enough, nothing to write home about but it did the job. But for us Vegans they just didn’t think about us. It had some of the options that we found at all other hotels but of a lower quality. Pasta, marinara sauce that was very watery, chips, salad…that’s pretty much it to be honest. We went for lunch daily and made do with salad and chips but we ended up going out for dinner in the local town every single night. I’ll talk about the local town later in the review but as for dinner here, if you are vegan or I’d say even vegetarian then you WILL struggle. If the holiday hadn’t been so cheap I would have been annoyed. Local Area: People said in reviews that the hotel was in the middle of nowhere. And we thought they were being dramatic. But it really was. It was a good 15-20 minute walk in either direction to either get to the local supermarkets or the local town. And that timing is for a couple in our early 30s. If you are older or with children it’s going to take much longer. On one occasion we walked the costal path to Caleta De Fuste so that we could see the wild chipmunks but that took a good 40 minutes, and provided absolutely no shade so I ended up getting pretty sunburnt before we had even reached the town/beach. Speaking of the beach, there isn’t one near the hotel. You have to venture into the local town for this. Near the hotel you have a couple of bars and small shops. A couple of small restaurants such as Chinese and an Indian but not much else worth noting. The local town though is Caleta De Fuste and that had a great selection of shops and eateries. The taxi costs less than €4 each way and they take minutes to come to the hotel. The drive is again a couple of minutes and then you have access to everything you’d want. Every sort of shop that you would get back in the UK along with more restaurants than I could care to imagine. This town became our absolute saviour as Vegans. We managed to find a different restaurant each night that either had vegan friendly options or at least an option that could be easily made Vegan friendly. I’d say if I had to shout out any 1 of the places we went to it would be Fado Rock Steakhouse. We went there with a couple that we had made friends with at the hotel, they had some absolute obscenely massive steaks that were very well priced and apparently delicious. And me and my partner had a Vegetable Paella that again was delicious. It wasn’t until a day or 2 later than we realised how popular the place was as every night there would be a queue around the block to get in! So if you wanted to check it out I’d advise eating earlier in the evening. The beach at Caleta unfortunately didn’t have the soft sand we were hoping for, instead it was a bit grainy but closer to the water it softened a little. The sea itself was gorgeous though, clear as anything, I’d be swimming 5ft deep and still see the bottom as clear as day. Overall Impressions: I think a lot of people’s issues with this hotel is they book 3 star, expecting a 4 or 5 star experience. We paid around £700 for a 5 day holiday. That is with flights, transfers and the All Inclusive option. So breaking it down really we paid around £400 to get a room and all the food and drink we could ask for for 5 days for 2 people. We easily had that just in drinks alone! This was always meant to just be a cheap winter break for us but it turned out to actually be a lovely holiday. The guests and staff were actually the highlight but I have to knock a lot of points off for the food. The hotel definitely needs some work and I can say they are working on it. There was always somebody somewhere painting or fixing something. But I feel these are band aid fixes. I hope once the room renovations are done they will move onto the rest of the hotel. The pool really needs some work. I’m giving this place 3 stars but that’s a combination of proximity from the beach, the location in general of the hotel, the food options, the entertainment and the lack of things like Air Con and the safe in the rooms costing obscene prices. I would come back, but probably only if we found a really cheap deal. …
