Nice owners. They have only for rooms, which are good, basic but clean and cozy with fan/AC and bathroom attached or just nearby. It is 7 minutes walking from the bus stop, little bit north form the position that is on the map.

This was our first time to Mannar. Our friend runs a development agency and so we were keen to visit. He chose Baobab for us. We stayed 5 nights. The guest house is very simple. We had a double room with aircon, a fan and private bathroom. There is no hot water but it's not needed as its so hot! You can add breakfast each morning - they offer Sri Lankan breakfast (Dhosa or string hoppers with curry, fresh fruit) or Western breakfast (usually eggs and toast). You can also arrange to have lunch and dinner - you can decide in the morning but you need to give some hours' notice as it takes so time to prepare dinner. My husband doesn't eat chilli and they were able to cater to his tastes. We had a few group dinners here which were wonderful. Jerome who runs the guest house is an excellent host. He is flexible and hospitable. He also speaks excellent English. We are rating the guest house highly in comparison to other guest houses in Mannar. The friendliness of the host is what makes this place stand out.

I've been to Mannar 4 times and stayed in a few of the budget places. If you're on a budget, this is hands down the best place to stay. The hotel is 20mins walk from 'downtown'. It's in a quiet street, but near amenities (small shops, banks, restaurants...). I stayed in the double room which has a big window, large private bathroom (cold water only, but who wants hot water in this part of SL), A/C if wanted and a desk and chair (rare for a budget room). There's a restaurant round the corner called Shiva Brothers which is cheap and good - it's very popular with locals which is always a good sign. I didn't look for another place when in the area as they have the range of traditional SL food (and dosa). Last but not least, Jerome who runs the place is extremely friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable about the area and beyond, and knows how to interact with foreigners - not always a given in remote parts of SL (he worked for ICRC previously). It feels like a homestay as it's small (I think there are 3 rooms), so a friendly owner is a must. If you want space, he won't intrude, but won't ignore you either if you have questions (he's got good English). Honestly, don't think twice about where to stay in Mannar.
