What's nice about the place is the castle itself, its surroundings and the restaurant - both the food and the Ladies were fantastic!
To spend a night however, it's not ideal. The first surprise for us was that although we were guests of the hotel, we were supposed to pay for visiting the castle. Second incovenience was the fact, that although we had booked a superior room, there was a huge group of children above our head, very noisy, party every day and it was impossible to relax. It not exactly what we expected when booking this type of accomodation. In addition, the superior (thematic) room was very small, didn't look special in any way. There was no kettle in the room, the bathroom was not comfortable at all - no space to put our stuff. Most of our belongings we needed to keep out of the bathroom. No curtains or window covers - in summer when the sun rises after 4 o'clock it's difficult to sleep.

The hotel experience was brilliant. Nice comfortable rooms. Breakfast was delicious. I must recommend the spa, truly relaxing.

Now, a negative point, although a pretty big one. I was walking from the spa to my hotel room, when I came across a guided tour around the castle. Trying not to interrupt, I walked around the group when suddenly the tour guide looked at me and very rudely told me to leave the room immediately as "he was doing a tour" . I was shocked. I explained I didn't know the place and was trying to find my way. He was not interested and told me to find a different way. He humiliated me in front all this whole group. I was not interrupting in any way, but quietly making my way around the room. I do not know all the passageways in the castle, and i am not required to. If he found my fleeting presence unwanted, he could have said so politely. This nearly ruined what was a lovely relaxing day. I have already reported this incident to the reception and I hope this will be dealt with appropriately.

everything was great, the Viking holiday in Poland was great

I would just do more for the guests, for example a barbecue evening or keeping the bar open longer would be nice. PS and vary the selection at the breakfast buffet a bit

otherwise great, very quiet and very nice staff, also speaks German

The most beautiful castle in Poland. It was fun to take a guided tour and to find out more about the mysterious past of this amazing place. Visiting in winter is a good idea because this place is more quiet. Good thing is that you can also book a room in the hotel

Having read about this place I had high hopes since I Love castels and secret passages and to sleep in odd places.
Having read that I could walk around and Explore on my own I learned that now I had to take a tour to do that. No English tour and the info om papper covered maybee a third of what the guide said. Also the Castle was very loud because of a lot of children who stayed had a Harry Potter theme. It is a good idea but better to this on nights rhat other guests are not staying. No information if it was ok to Explore castle in the evening so I stayed in the room. Good things very nice room and good food, otherwise......
Also a shame that the tower was closed.
Had someone asked about how my stay was at checkout I would have told them, but that did not happen.

Let's be clear - the castle is amazing. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting it - on a guided tour. If you get the idea to stay in the area - do a bit of research, there are very nice and MUCH cheaper places within 1,5 km radius (e.g. by the dam). If you really, Really, REALLY want to sleep in this medieval castle, go for the cheapest option - your experience won't be much different than if you used any of the more costly options.

What where the things I liked (besides the fact of staying in a place that has 800 years of history):
- all the staff were nice and friendly.
- we had a room facing the river and it was quitet. Not only quite, but SILENT. Probably this is the best thing about staying in the hotel.
- as a hotel guest you can pretty much explore the castle on your own (e.g. stay in the library). Not sure if that is actually welcomed by the staff, but it is impossible to forbid guests from trying out some of the secret passages.
- the hotel has sauna that hardly anybody uses - just let the reception know 30 minutes before you want to use it and they will heat it up for you. Towel for the sauna is available with the service, so no need to carry the one you get in your room.
- sauna and guided tour were included in the price of the "romantic" option we used. It is NOT included in cheaper options.

Neutral (neither amazing, not "complainable"):
- the food was ok - and I mean all - the breakfast that is included in the room price, the menu items you can order for lunch or dinner and the food served for the "romantic dinner".
- at the end, i was able to get 20% discount, but it required quite a lot of discussions. I would have recognized it as a positive thing, if the hotel manager (?) was not trying to dismiss me and my complaints.

What made me disappointed about the service?
- PRICE. The quality of the service would be o.k. with the price at the level of 1/3 of the actual price.
- "themed room" was themed "movie room" because there were several random pictures of TV show celebrities hung on the walls (room 221). In other hotels I have seen better themed rooms that were just "regular" rooms. Oh, booking this sort of a room costs extra.
- "romantic dinner" that we ordered was in a separate restaurant room (nice), but the table we were seated at was in a corner of the room and made an impression of being prepared kind of last moment (we actually heard the reception talking to the restaurant, where the receptionist was convincing the waitress that the order was made for that nigh, not the next...)
- another thing about the "romantic dinner" was that half-way through, someone at the kitchen started washing cutlery - it sounded like they collected all cutlery ever owned by the castle and washed all at once. We more laughed at it than made an issue of it, but - at the end - at that price more consideration is expected.
- my favorite thing about the stay was that when my wife went to the reception to order massage (there was a advert in the bathroom), she was told that - this is the holiday season (duuh!) and the masseuse is on holidays. Why not simply remove the information, if the service is not available?
- the jaquzzi in the room was broken, and when we reported it, the staff were like "yeah, it doesn't work for long time now". The next day, when I requested discount for - among others - the broken jacquzzi, I was answered "you should have reported the day before".
- what "dotted the i" about the quality was that the pen provided to fill in the feedback form did not work :-)

The hotel quite obviously misses someone who feels him/herself the host and owns the quality and development of the site. Now it seems to be only managed with limited resources and with no vision.

No doubt about the beauty of this castle and it's location, but one night is enough. We booked for three nights but stayed for only one. The large panoramic windows had no drapes or blinds, so the midsummer sun poured into our room at 5 am - bright and very hot. The bed was akin to lying on granite such was the thin mattress. The advertised wi-fi was non existent. Food was expensive yet average in quality and presentation. Staff were delightful and apologetic when we left. Recommend a single night as enough to experience this lovely castle.

The castle exterior is stunning. The grounds gorgeous. However, the facilities - lacking. We stayed in the knight's room - which was not as depicted in the pictures. We had lumpy old beds. A tall person could not stand to use the facilities. Hot water was at least a 5 minute wait. No AC; no fans. Not good for a warm day (It was about 90 when we stayed there) VERY Stuffy. NO PHONE IN THE ROOMS. No way to contact the reception to ask them to tell people to stop partying in the halls. The check-in staff did not tell us about the daily tours or offer suggestions of what to do. It is not worth the amount of $$$ to stay there. I would strongly advise to simply walk/tour the grounds and stay somewhere else. It is very off the beaten path and answering the question below about location is difficult. Because it is remote, it has quaintness, ambiance. However, not much choice of anywhere else to stay. Visit in the early part of the day to allow for travel to another place to stay.

They put us in a room down the hill from the main castle and it was unclean (found a dead mouse next to the bed), the beds were like sleeping on a rock, we had no hot water the first day. I would not recommend staying here. The castle is worth a visit since it is very nice.

My brother recently married a Polish girl and they ended up having the wedding at this castle/hotel in Luban. All of the rooms have a different theme to them. I ended up getting a Harry Potter room, and my mother got an African tribe theme room. We had the ceremony and the reception at the castle. Apparently most Polish weddings that are held at castles are reserved for celebrities or famous people. With that being said, when I saw the bill for the actual wedding which included like 20-25 rooms, a BUNCH of food (they kept bringing out course after course for several hours), 1/2 a bottle of vodka and wine per person, desserts and other finger foods, I was blown away. The whole wedding was cheaper than you could probably get 20-25 hotel rooms for the wedding guests in the States, but included EVERYTHING.

Now the rooms weren't the highest quality compared to the other places I stayed in Poland. In fact it was one of the more run down places I stayed at. The views were very nice from the rooms. I had a view of the local lake from mine. The beds were semi-hard, and the bathrooms need some updating. They do have free wifi. They even have a masseuse on site, at a very very great price. Only 100zl for an hour massage.

There are also a lot of things to do and see while at the castle. Like visiting the grounds, the torture dungeon, the lake close by. But make sure you have everything you need before you get there, because the closest city with stores are about a 15-20 minute drive back into town.

Not somewhere I would want to stay more than a day and a night, as you can see and do everything there in one day. My biggest complaint is that the rooms need some MAJOR updating. They either need a more modern feel, or give them a retro castle feel. The rooms feel like they are just cheaply put together.

Hi, the nearest capital is Berlin ( Germany) - 257 km from the castle. I think the best way to get there by car, because it is quite far from big cities.
