Filthy room, sheets unchanged and stained, bathroom very dirty, toilet broken. The host was dishonest, charged us more than previously decided! They got mad, yelled and theatened to throw us out of the room. We had no choice than to pay!
The place H&U located is nice. The beach is just 3 mins away. And the bus stop is 8 min walk to the main road. The host also offers a tuktuk ride to Trinco bus station. Though there aren't many shops on the street to buy some food or to have a meal, H&U provides some grocery and three meals if you don't want to walk 2 km. The host and hostess were nice and very helpful with some traveling tips. The host even suggested me to go to the hotel nearby to share a boat-ride to the Pigeon Island with other tourists! All in all, H&U is quite value for money in Nilaveli!
We just left this wonderful place today and we totally enjoyed it! The guesthouse is owned by the most amazing and cheerful couple in Sri Lanka.. They were so helpful with everything and there was always time for a little joke.. Unfortunately Sanne still doesn't like frogs.. Haha! The place is located very close to the beach which is so beautiful. From the beach you can take a boat to Pigeon Island.. If you are in love with the Sri Lankan cuisine you will love their homemade food here. We will definitely come back to this place and enjoy the couples company. We really felt like home! Lots of love from Sanne and Julie (Denmark)
Firstly I must say the host (Bridget) was extremely helpful and understanding when I decided not to stay in the room offered to me. She explained they were full in the main part of the guesthouse and even offered to lower the very reasonable rate for my 2 night stay. But the basic room offered was, frankly, too basic for me. Maybe I'm just getting old (mid 40's) but even in my backpacking early 20's I would have struggled to stomach a night in a room in such a sorry state. I apologised and Bridget very kindly let me use the internet so I could find other accommodation. Whilst doing so a room did become available in the upstairs main part of the guesthouse, which was much nicer than the first one, but by then my mind was made up. I lost $25 (as per the cancellation fee) with booking.com (where strangely, it's listed as 'H&U guesthouse' with no reviews) but I'd rather lose that than a nights sleep. …
Mothi and his wife are both very kind people. We had a very nice stay , spending smooth evening under the trees. Bridget is a fabulous cook, and they always do their best to meet your needs. You can count on them if you need anything. Instead of one night, we stayed three. Definitely a good place to stop! Sonia & Arnaud
