Detailed Reviews
We did not stay at the High Park Hotel, but we booked our sea trips in Trinko through them . They were recommended by our driver from Sri Lanka Personal Drivers.
Velle was our point of contact at the High Park. We booked the Dolphin watching trip on one day and the Pigeon Island snorkeling trip on the second day with him.
Velle picked us up from Oceanfront Condominium at Nilaveli beach on his boat and took us to the harbour to view the dolphins. It was an exhilarating experience , especially for the kids - the whole speed boat ride and the synchronised swimming dolphins in the ocean !
The snorkeling trip to Pigeon island was great. Velle guided us into the water and took us around so we could explore the coral reef and the beautiful fish. We swam around sharks and turtles. Without him as our guide, we would not have known where to spot these magnificent beings!
Velle was excellent with the kids and made sure that their safety came first.
High park hotels have us competitive price for the trips including the tickets to the National park. Velle gave us the clear breakup for the boat, ticket and guide charges.
I would recommend connecting with them for your trips in Nilaveli if you are travelling with family and kids.

My stay at the High Park Hotel was very pleasant. In my opinion, the highlights were the large pool, the beautiful sea view, and the delicious breakfast. However, it’s worth noting that the dinner was just average. The service was excellent, though! I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed only one night. Nice location. Room condition and cleanliness were satisfactory. Rates were competitive with other nearby hotels. Staff was friendly and helpful. You have a beautiful beach front but you must get advice from the staff before you visit there and should have great attention before had a bath as no one will be there to watch you. No any life guard was there at the beach and only a friendly dog was with us all the time during our visit to the beach. Thanks doggie !
However, the manager was really friendly and also the other staff was as same. We recommend this hotel.

Lovely rooms and a giant-sized pool, right on the beach. But best of all is the top notch staff, particularly, Pragash, Juliet and Luckshana. Second best of all is the great Sri Lankan meals. The curries are out of this world, as is the Devilled meals and the kotu roti. A tip to remember: go for the Sri Lankan breakfasts; they’re a step above.

My sister and I stayed here for 2 nights at this beach side small hotel with beautiful ocean views. Large airy upstairs room, good air con and fan, very comfortable king size double bed and large bathroom. Good food too in the attached restaurant freshly cooked and served hot. Staff very friendly and invited us to share in their pongal celebration, a Hindu thanksgiving for the harvest and to worship the sun god. Beach rubbish which others have mentioned is much less if you turn left out of the hotel rather than turning to the right. Great birds in the garden. Things to see and do include war graves cemetery, tuk tuk tour around trincomalee and pigeon island boat trip for snorkelling.

We were diving with Nilaveli diving center, and stayed in this hotel which is located just here. Lovely stay, staff is friendly, delicious food ever! Not much to do in Nilaveli, so you can just stay here, beach is wide and nice, can take diving courses and restaurant is here with great food!

Modern, clean and spacious rooms with or without ac and all with a lovely view. The restaurant is excellent and good value. And most of all, excellent location, close to pigeon island and a clean, beautiful beach. Other stretches of the beach are not cleaned and suffer from waste as any beach in the world today.

We were highly surprised reading all the positive reviews about this hotel. It's like if it's about a complete other hotel. But let me start with the positive feedback. The rooms are okay, still too expensive but not much wrong with the room except that it didn't get cleaned during our stay. We traveled for a month through Sri Lanka and we have slept in 13 different places. This was the most expensive place with the worst level of service. Nearby is a nice place with a pool on the beach and a good atmosphere and that was even cheaper. We spoke to the manager and asked him why the hotel is so expensive with a total lack of service. "You should have asked for it" was his answer.
The rooms were never cleaned in 4 days, the breakfast was the same every day, cheap toast and jam, no fruit. At the beach there were only 2 parasols for all the guest, and you really need some shadow there! The food was okay but it seemed very hard to set up a table right. We constantly had to ask for plates, glasses, forks, knives and spoons. And it took forever to serve the diner. I certainly would not recommend this place.

We went during off season and we were the only guests in the resort. Not many visitors in trincomalee either.
Rooms spacious with average cleanliness.
Food for dinner was ok, despite no other guests most of the dishes in the menu were available and freshly prepared.
Standard breakfast (Toast, jam, coffee/tea, fruit, egg)...sri lankan Omelette nice but could be more spicy.
Beach was relatively dirty but this may have been because of stormy weather and strong waves.
All in all ok, lots of improvements advisable, nothing spectacular.

Although this hotel has potential to be excellent, it failed to meet the minimum standards for myself and two of my friends. Although we know that we aren't back home and that we have to remain patient here are a few points worth mentioning regarding our stay :
1 from what we understood the hotel does not have an alcohol license so everytime we ordered some beer we bad to wait about 20 minutes. Furthermore at one point I had to wait about 2 hours to receive a sandwich.
2 the staff's understanding of English is quite limited but they are very friendly.
3 we were told by other guests that they saw local children running in and out of our room while we were away.
4 nilaveli's doesn't have much shade so if you want to go swimming and sit under the shade you can't really do that. Some other hotels have sunbeds under umbrellas. Although High Park has sunbeds they are tucked behind a fence with no views and not on the beach.
5 this isn't a criticism of the hotel but of the beach itself: it is full of garbage. Not sure if it is because there is barely any tourists in nilaveli during September and the town neglects to clean up the beach but it isn't the nicest to sit around in.
