Nestled on a secluded beachfront, Bahia Principe Grand Tulum is often celebrated for its cleanliness and lively atmosphere, complete with diverse entertainment and modern amenities. Guests have called out the hotel's well-maintained grounds and attentive service, although some have encountered service lapses. While the location offers beachside serenity, it is somewhat isolated, potentially complicating excursions. Visitors appreciate the variety of on-site amenities, yet the rooms themselves receive criticism for being dated and occasionally poorly maintained. Concerns over hidden costs and the overall value have also been voiced by several guests.

Arrival/check-in: we booked through Tui and done the online check-in on the website 5 days prior to coming. We managed to book the restaurants on the app before coming - we had 7 visits. Would recommend doing this before you come as we enquired about changing an existing booking and the were full for our last week. Arrival was quick and easy and bell boys take you and luggage on the cart to your room.

Rooms- we booked a junior suite with Tui. We got the old style room. They managed to change us on day 3 as the hotel was full. We got a superior room in Villa 3 - amazing location 🤩. The cost was meant to be $10 per person per night but we didn’t have to pay. Got a helpful manager called Fernando who was great! We are a party of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids; 15 & 12. We had 2 doubles and a double sofa. I would book a suite if returning. There was plenty of storage space for clothes and 4 cases. The toilet is weird and quite see-through so we avoided that area if someone was in. I didn’t think the shower was as see through as others have said; this wasn’t an issue for us.
If you are short of towels or have any issues with your room. Dial 8585 to concierge and they will sort it your issue.
We left 50 pesos in the safe every few days with a note for beer, coke, Fanta and crisps. These were left every day even when we didn’t leave note or tip!
Cleaners were in every day.

Pool areas - plenty of sun beds, no need to get up early unless you require one with shade as these are very limited at the main pool. The kids pool has lots of shade and lots of beds. We spent time at all the pools, including the Coba one a couple of days which is really good.
The quiet pool is lovely, good music and a chilled vibe. There are Bali beds but I think they are hard to get. We managed to get one on an afternoon as someone left - they are amazing!
The main pool has a lot going on; water polo every day, aerobics classes etc. the swim up bar is a plus.

Restaurants- the main buffet has so much choice; we only ate in there for dinner 3/4 times but the options are amazing. The Mexican section is so good!! They have a grill area, seafood area with prawns, scallops, salmon etc and they will cook it fresh for you. Pasta area were you choose your ingredients and they cook it fresh (I had this twice and it was great - sometimes a wait but worth it). So much choice for breakfast and lunch too. The waiters serve you drinks to your table.

For lunch options, there is also the food trick and main pool bbq area. The food truck does get busy at peak times but it’s great, I had the help yourself nachos most days! The bbq at the main pool is great too.
Coba pool food area is a lot better in my opinion. It’s a small buffet but at the pool area, with salads, wraps, fresh pizza, burgers etc.

Dinners; we ate at Thali (Indian) - very good. We had the sample dish which was tasters of a lot of the options on the menu. It’s a lovely restaurant with great staff.
Tequila (Mexican). Although this is a buffet, it’s very good. The theming is amazing, we got to wear the sombreros for photos.
Don Pablo - absolutely loved this place, my favourite of them all. We had a large table for 8 as we went with friends. The water, Filiberto was brilliant. We all had the filet steak but he brought extra prawn dishes, fries and rice for the table. There was so much food but excellent quality. We had Mayan coffe afterwards.
Le Gourmet- similar to Don Pablo - amazing food, we all had steak there too.
Although these are fine dining, don’t be put off if you have kids. There is a kids menu in each restaurant but it’s not that great. We used the opportunity to try new things, such as lobster Thermidor and fois gras. The restaurants are not pretentious at all and we were made to feel welcome.
La Gran Tortuga - rodizio restaurant. I was most looking forward to this but this was my least favourite of all 7. The quality of the meat was not the same as the other restaurants and the atmosphere was a bit meh! Others in my party did thoroughly enjoy their food though, so this is just my opinion.
Mikado Tepanyaki- this was very good. The ordering was a bit rushed and we had to initially ask a few times for more wine, but the service then picked up. The live cooking is interactive and the food was delicious.
Mashua was our last meal last night. It’s Japanese and Peruvian fusion. The menu is a bit out there but we all tried new things; octopus and ceviche. It’s not to everyone’s taste (including mine) but love to try new things. The soup and main dishes were amazing though. You can order steak, prawn and chicken either grilled or in the wok.
The restaurant is lovely and we had a fab waiter called Cristian who took a lot of time to explain what each thing in the menu was. I’m glad we tried this as it’s somewhere we wouldn’t visit back home.

Sun- it’s very hot!! Bring lots of sun cream and tops for the kids. Remember a hat too!

Beach- some days there was a lot of seaweed but the guys are there all day every day clearing it. Bits of Tulum beach are rocky but just walk along a bit towards La Gran Tortuga entrance and it’s more Sandy. The Coba beach is much better, hardly any seaweed or rocks- it’s only about 10 mins along.

Excursions - we booked Xel-ha and Xcaret direct and made our own way they’d and back via a taxi. It was quite expensive but still worked out cheaper than adding on the transport option; plus you have the benefit of going and coming back when it suits you rather than a schedule. These parks are amazing. Water shoes are essential.
We also done the snorkelling, zip wires and 4x4 quad biking. We booked this through Destino Riviera. I would highly recommend this trip. Note though; the zip wire is 100 feet high ams 1 km long. Totally took me out of my comfort zone but loved it! We also booked our airport transfers with Destino riviera too.
We went into play del Carmen 2 nights using taxi and collectivo. The collectivo is great but you do have a bit of a walk to get to 5th Avenue, about 20/25 mins. 5th Avenue had great shops and is very lively at night. We were with the kids so didn’t go into any of the places. We had a meal one night and street food the other; both were great!

Staff- the stafff at this hotel are brilliant. We haven’t met a ride or unhelpful person in 2 weeks. They honestly can’t do enough for you; with or without tips. We did tip throughout the holiday, usually 20 or 50 pesos at the bars or for services and 200 for evening meals. This is obviously different for everyone.

I hope this has been helpful. I need to get back to pack 4 cases 😩😬😭

Stayed for 5 days of relaxation in Tulum . Stayed in block 9 which was about a 4 minute walk to the lobby and 3 minute walk to the snack bar very good. Only suggestion when it comes to rooms is ask for a high floor - trolleys are constantly running and being on the ground floor made it very noisy at night and in the morning. Pools are beautiful, the beach was a disappointment - it is contained by these big “whale” like rocks which blocks your view of the ocean. Also a very rocky walk into the water I recommend water shoes.

Food was very good, lots of variety at the snack bar and buffet. A la carte dinners are very difficult to book only got into one and did not enjoy it. All drinks at the bars are very good no complaints. Night time activities we’re great, the disco(club) and live music performances in the lobby.

I would 100% suggest staying 7 days or more to really take advantage of all this resort has to offer. I also highly recommend booking an excursion! Tulum did not have a lot of kids on the resort, it was more middle aged couples and older adults vs. Coba had a lot of families and kids. Akumal is luxury very very beautiful although if staying at Tulum or Coba you do not have access to this property.

The staff were all amazing - I called for towels to my room received them within 5 minutes and then got a follow up call from front desk making sure I received them! Amazing service.

My friends and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the Bahia Principe resort in the Riviera Maya. We stayed in the "Tulum" area of the resort. When going out into the ocean I recommend bringing water shoes as the ground was quite rocky in some places. There was hardly any seaweed in the water or on the beach. The restaurant buffets had a wide selection of food both in quantity and in variety. The staff we interacted with was very friendly and nice. Some were quieter based on their comfort level with English. I appreciated the hand sanitizer that was available at the entrance of every restaurant / food area. I also liked that you could carry drinks around the resort in hard, reusable plastic cups. I highly recommend this resort and will stay again.

Just got back from a week at the Bahia Principe Tulum resort. I have no complaints, I read some reviews here before I left and I totally disagree with some things people complained about! The staff were amazing, such wonderful people. Everyone was friendly and helpful. There was no seaweed issue, yes there's seaweed but they clean up the beach every day so you never have to see it and there is no smell. The pools are not heated, but the sun warms the water and its refreshing. Book your a la carte restaurants right away, they fill up fast. The buffet had so many options and I enjoyed the food that was served. The rooms were clean and well maintained. I had no problem with damp clothes drying in the room. The grounds are very nice. Loved the shuttle service to get around. The restaurant staff were awesome. The Coba had a nice outdoor patio area with live music and entertainment so we enjoyed visiting that resort as well. The drinks were great and there were lots of activities around the swim up bar pool, music, zumba, aquasize, Spanish lessons, fun games. There is something for everyone, Tulum is a bit more quiet at night at the lobby bar and Coba is a bit more lively. I wish we had more time to do more, there was so much to do and not enough time. One thing I would like to see is the abolishment of the swim with dolphins as I personally do not agree with that practice. Thank you for a wonderful time I would return to this resort again definitely! Caroline

I simply don't understand 5* rating unless these people never been in the real 5* hotels... There are things that can not be changed, like the access to sea (very rocky, coral) but not everybody cares about the ocean and the view with the ugly sand “whales” while on tropical vacations. Pools and grounds are beautiful , rooms clean although outdated with archaic bathrooms and cheap plastic chairs on the balcony.
The food is OK, great in Don Pablo, but their reservation systems for a la carte is a joke. Modern hotels have the first come first serve system and who cares if you have to wait at the bar for 20 minutes or even an hour? We are on vacation and can choose the time we want. Not here. First day when you arrive the restaurants are already fully booked and the only time available is late at night (like 10 PM). At all the times all of the restaurants are half empty (we checked few).
Bars are not better. No international alcohol if you care about it, they close at 11 except the snack bar with very limited menu. Sitting areas are set outside, but no service outdoor, you have to go and stand in line for your drink. Same with the beach, pool, there is many people who come around to propose the SPA or tattoo during the day that nobody is interested in (who would be when 1 hr massage costs 120 USD while in Canada I can get it with registered massage therapist for less than half of this price). You ask for the Spanish coffee, they only serve it 7-10 PM. Strange, isn’t it? Once we wandered to Bahia Akumal side to see if access to the ocean is less rocky and after walking about 800 meters ended up by Bahia Akumal beach bar. They won’t even serve you a beer as you have different color of the wristband. It’s ridiculous. Isn’t it the same Bahia chain?
Definitely far away from the 5 stars!
Adding 2 hours travel from the airport we will for sure re-consider to ever choose Bahia on our next vacations.

My bf and I traveled amidst the holiday season and decided to stay here. I booked through the hotel website it was fast and easy and the representative was helpful and pleasant. I was able to check in prior to arriving which made the arrival smooth and seamless. We were upgraded from a junior suite which was great. The room was beautifully styled and rather quaint we don’t need much so it was perfect for a quick stay. The balcony had a beautiful view over looking the pool and right over into the beach area which we loved. Our room was away from all the movement which was a little inconvenient when we wanted food but great for social distancing purposes. They temperature checked at all the entrances for the common areas and hand sanitizer stations were conveniently placed. The buffet was pretty basic very hit or miss. Wasn’t our favorite. The pools were pretty busy swim up bar etc. we skipped that as a precaution and stuck to the beach. We made dinner reservations at Tequila which was vibrant inside and the food was delicious. Our favorite restaurant was Thali the Hindu cuisine was amazing! Do not skip this spot. Everything we had was so flavorful and well prepared. Our servers Gamaliel and Javier were so kind. They attended to us and made sure we had a wonderful evening. We were the last ones in the restaurant and the manager made us feel so welcome. When we return to this hotel this restaurant will be our first stop! The decor, the staff, the food 5 stars. The resort had shows and entertainment we skipped that as well. Overall extremely clean and beautiful. 4 stars bc the buffet was the primary source of food on nights where you don’t make reservations and unless you get there as soon as it opens the options are subpar. Also no room service or food of any sort in the rooms. You can’t take food back with you from anywhere.

This was by far the most disappointing vacation I have ever been on in my life, and we usually go away every Christmas to Mexico so we know the area fairly well. From the first day there to the very last day the worst experience I have ever had. It started with day one and the room was not suited for a family, when we went to get another room that would work for a baby they gave grief over changing the room and it took until 11:30 pm to change the room. Then to add to it, the resort was slowly going into renovations, which means the half we got moved too was half closed. So we had to go all the way across the resort for food when we needed to have a meal, which isn't the end of the world except that it takes ten to fifteen minutes to get anywhere from the side we were on walking with a stroller especially WHEN IT IS HOT. The service in the resort was horrible and the staff was only into customer service if they were getting tips.If there was no tip there was no customer service. if you needed fresh water to drink you had to ask two or three times before they would bring it to you. The package we got had 6 meals included at there "special" restaurants, only problem was that we could only book four of the six due to them saying there was no more bookings available! But every time we went for dinner the restaurants where half empty! This was right until the last day when I asked for help with our bags from our room to our shuttle and nobody came and even after repeated calls I had to bring my bags from my room to the front, no big deal except the rooms are very far from the front of the resort. Once I got my bags there the bell boy had the nerve to follow me around the shuttle looking fro his handout! Now so many things went wrong I can't even tell you everything in this review. So to finish this, left the hotel, got on the plane and went to pull out our airpods out of my backpack that was on the chair the whole stay in our room...... well low and behold they were gone. I warn anyone who is thinking of going here to reconsider and to go anywhere but here if you are looking for customer service or nice staff because you will not get it here. The only positive from this trip was the Northern beach was just beautiful.

Holiday Review

Context:
Stayed at this resort for 11 nights in April flying from Birmingham England with my girlfriend (We are 22 and 21 years old)

Facilities:
The rooms were new and modern with a smart look to them and always kept clean and tidy by the staff, the room had a safe and plenty of space to hang/store clothes etc and the bed was very large, along with a big screen TV and a spacious balcony.

The pools were great also, the main pool was often busy and quite loud with children etc however the other pool was a calmer number to relax and enjoy. People seem to get up a reserve sun-beds here but there were always plenty of beds on offer.

The hotel reception has a tours desk in which we booked multiple tours over the holiday, this was very easy to book and seemed to offer a much better deal than any found online or through TUI. I recommend the Xcaret park and Chichen Itza! Amazing experiences.

Food & Drinks:
Buffet food was amazing, really high quality and plenty of different choices for all preferences even gluten free and they didn’t seem to get boring with different options each day. The bookable restaurants were a step above the buffet, we had 5 free reservation options and each one felt like a premium meal of the highest quality so definitely worth booking (just book on the first day to ensure spaces are available).

The drinks were good also and the bars stocked all inclusive premium spirits which was good. Many including ourselves did buy a thermal cup to keep drinks cold all day and compensate for the small cup/drink sizes you get from the bar.

Other:
Unfortunately the beach directly outside the resort was not useable due to the seaweed which was a shame but expected, however a short 10 min walk across the beach there are places to swim.

With this resort you can access the other 3 sister hotels for variety and also the hacienda market which sells small craft goods, all accessible by golf buggy’s that cart you round when you wish. Along with this taxis are easily booked from the front of the hotel and completely safe!

I would mention that I don’t normally enjoy hotel evening entertainment, but it wasn’t too bad here with mariachi band and some singers at the outside lobby bar although there wasn’t much seating available here, so we opted for a quieter drink inside the bar.

Overall, the hotel is perfect for both couples and families and I highly recommend it to anyone searching! It left me feeling Supersonic. JW X

27-Feb: We are here now, day 4 of a two-week stay.
Very nice resort. Very clean and in good repair. Room is nice and when we asked for a blanket and to fix a light bulb that was not working they did it immediately.
Very long beach, lots of chairs and palapas and mangroves to sit under. We had no trouble getting chairs even late morning. One can choose to be near the music and animation or in a quieter area to hear waves. Nice!
Buffet has lots of choice and the food is good. We really like going to the buffet. Many À La Carte restaurants also.
Entertainment is fabulous! Live music after supper before the show every night, really good professional musicians, different music type each night. Shows are professional quality performers and staging. Last night was the Rock show. Really really good. We have been to many all-inclusives, and seen many shows; we are impressed with the shows here!
Great gym and workout options, good trainers. Excellent !
Access to the Coba resort also.
Trolleys run regularly all over the resort, so if you want to go somewhere and prefer to not walk, it’s easy.
Visited the golf course yesterday; looks very nice. Booked a game booked for the weekend.
All in all, we recommend this resort.

My daughter set up a resort vacation for May 20 - May 25. As we traveled to the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum, give your self about and hour and a half after landing into Cancun. The resort was very nice, open building style check in. The resort is large about 1/8 of mile total. Palm trees with coconuts, iguana's, Mir cats and a large ocean beach. It faces the Gulf of Mexico, 3 pool areas. Buffet not bad, The Tequila restaurant was great, offers a lot of gluten free options. Entertainment was provided every night.

Now the bad points: The air conditioning is locked at 21 c. The room has be closed to keep the A/C running. The shower and water closet have mirrored glass doors and part of the room and not to private. The water closet has a motion sensor to keep the light on. The rooms smell musty and the floors are always wet. if you go to the front desk to ask for a customer computer with printer there isn't any.

Other then that, the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum was a nice place with a lot of good points and few bad points. Shuttles run and take you any where within the resort. You will be happy with a few bad points.

Mexican beer is either on tap (I believe nobody asks what type) and there is also Corona, Pacifico and Tecate available in cans, as far as I remember. No idea if cider is offered.
