Small and very nice timber style mountain lodge at Kikut in Geilo, Norway’s number one ski resort. Beautifully located at 1050 meters above sea level right on excellent cross country ski tracks which run for miles and miles. The lodge has a panoramic view of nearby mountains and the vast Hardangervidda mountain plateau national park. The lodge is situated at the end-point of the cross country tracks across Hardangervidda and is frequented by many a hardy who ski from hut to hut over ”vidda” in the winter or walk there in the summer. Hakkesetstølen offers two huts, one apartment and several rooms with bed, table and sofabed, some but not all, with en-suite bathroom. It has a spacious dining room and a small upstairs library with books and tv. Ski-stable and drying-rom for ski-clothes and a big sauna with showers. All nice and clean. Full board includes breakfast and dinner. Simple and good traditional Norwegian food which frequently includes meat of moose and other game in different forms. Waffles with jam and sour cream can be had at all times as well as beer, wine and liquor. Various activities are on offer. The place also accommodates larger groups for seminars etc. We have frequented Hakkesetstølen earlier from time to time for waffles and beer, but just before Easter this year we decided to spend three nights there and we had a really good time in fabulous weather and skiing conditions. Toril, the owner, is a very friendly and helpful woman who seems to be on duty more or less 24/7 and can tell you all there is to know about the surroundings. Over the evening meal we had many interesting chats with people from all over the world who had skied or kited there from Hein, Finse, Krækkja or other destinations. We are really sorry we could not stay longer this time but we will be back. See www.hakkeset.no for more.
