Had lunch and a pint in this, the oldest Inn on the Isle of Skye. Oldie worldie interior meets 1970's bar which is a bit odd if not disappointing. Very tasty daily soup offering with a Mallaig flakey smoked salmon salad which was simply divine. Lovely art galley next door and the Boathouse holiday let along the bay once owned... More

When we stayed at the Stein Inn in 2007, we loved it and hoped to return. This summer we were able to stay for 5 nights, and it was great! Angus and Teresa have maintained the quality of the hotel and restaurant. Our room was upstairs, overlooking the street and the loch, over the bar (but not noisy at all).... More

With guests visiting our Skye home up on the Trotternish, we set out to explore the upper reaches of the Waternish peninsula. At the lovely wee fishing village of Stein we discovered hidden treasure: the "Stein Inn". The oldest tavern on the entire island, it has a welcoming and historical atmosphere - one could immediately sense bygone days when smugglers... More

Stayed nearby in August for a week and a visit here for dinner was a must do for us. The location is great, right by the coast, superb view out over Loch Bay, the evening was pleasant so we sat outside for a drink while we waited on a table becoming available. This place is always popular so do expect... More

We stopped off for a late lunch whilst driving around Skye. There aren't many pubs on Skye and there isn't many that serve food until 4pm so we were grateful to find somewhere still serving food. We had the scampi and the ploughmans platter which were both very nice and large portions. Also had a good choice of ales. The... More

We stayed locally for two weeks and visited the Stein on several occasions when we couldn't be bothered cooking in our self-catering cottage. Lovely people to talk to at the bar, great service from the staff who couldn't do enough for us and greeted us like old friends on our return visits. The food was good and their was plenty... More

We were told that this was a place we must visit on our first visit to the Isle of Skye. We were not disappointed. The lady owner looked after all our needs without delay, even though she was really busy. A really international clientele added to the experience. The food could not be faulted, neither could the service nor the... More

The GOOD - the remote location, the stunning views, the history and character of the place. Breakfast (and breakfast lady) pleasant. The BAD - everything else - check in takes place at the bar with customers sitting there (there's barely enough elbow room to fill out the form while they have a conversation over your head). Disappointing, messy and dirty... More

We were staying locally in Waternish and thought we'd try an evening meal here at the Stein Inn. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The place was very busy, which speaks volumes about the place, the menu was quite extensive and the food was plentiful. We looked elsewhere to go for dinner another night but couldn't find anywhere comparable to the Stein.... More

Ate here two evenings running last week and had a drink on the third evening whilst staying in Stein and can certainly recommend the food and the cosy atmosphere in the bar. The specials menu changes everyday and there was a good vegetarian offering both days that we visited. Also an excellent selection of whiskies and some local beers. -... More
