Gorda Springs Resort is a town unto itself, complete with 14 stand-alone cabins- each with a private patio and incredible ocean view, also a Restaurant, Espresso Bar, General Store and a Gas Station. The deep water trench that runs in front of Gorda allows for year-round whale watching, to be enjoyed while having breakfast, lunch or dinner in the cafe, while lounging in bed in your cabin, or simply enjoying a drink or snack from the front porch of the general store. Open 7 days a week!
I got what I wanted and more. The Big Sur Coast is as beautiful as it gets, and I was blessed with three sunny but chilly days in November. The Gorda Springs "Resort" is not a resort as you would typically think of one, but the cabins have great views, especially Palm, Little Palm and Cedar North and South. I was blessed to stay in the Palm House and enjoyed two beautiful sunsets and much other time just enjoying the view and the sounds of the seal lions. And while everything on the Central Coast is way overpriced, from Carmel to San Simeon (e.g., a cup of drip coffee for $6), the prices for the rustic cabins and rooms at Gorda can still be a surprise. But what really makes the place so great beyond the views, and despite the high prices, are the incredible staff: from the market/check-in to the restaurant, this family run small business really goes out of its way to make their customers have the best experience possible, from check-in through housekeeping, the restaurant/cafe, and check-out.…

The accommodations in the creek house were nice. Room was a bit run down but everything was clean and this place is in great location. I was charged in full when I made the reservation, then a few days before arriving I was charged an additional amount (over $400). When I asked where this charge came from I was told they didn't know and they refused to refund my money. I was told I must dispute the charge with my credit card company. Watch your credit card statement if you stay here!

We stayed in the Redwood house which had a great sitting area and a kitchenette with a large new refrigerator. There was a clear view of the ocean and we could hear the sea lions barking. The cabins are rustic and charming. We were there on an unusually hot day and the staff went out of their way to bring a portable A/C to our room. Everyone was friendly, including the staff at the restaurant.

Rustic small cabins at a fantastic vantage point along the central Cali coast. Our cabin had an amazing view and we spotted a few whale spouts. The fireplace was warm and toasty. Not fancy but delightful! We would definitely spend a night here again.

This is a love letter to the staff at Gorda Springs Resort. After our car broke down about 7 miles north at Paul’s Slide, a kind construction worker, Noe, drove us and our dog down to Gorda Springs Resort to contact a tow (there is no cell reception in the area). “Patty will take care of you” he said, and that she did, as well as the rest of the staff. Patty let us use the phone to call numerous tow companies, with very little luck. We couldn’t get a tow until the next day so we had to post up for the night. I was visibly upset and nervous about the car trouble and a ruined vacation. Patty put us outside on the deck with little champagne splits and told us to calm down and watch the beautiful sunset, that tomorrow would be a better day. Betty, who was working the restaurant, comforted our dog with bacon. They’d already shut down the kitchen for the night, but offered to make us a hot meal anyway. These kind people went above and beyond to make sure we felt safe and comfortable at their resort and the whole experience felt like a warm hug. The room was clean and the bed was so comfortable -a godsend for these weary travelers. There isn’t a bad view on the property, which is well maintained and beautifully landscaped. I can’t thank these folks enough for saving our lives that day and we will never forget Patty, Betty, and the rest of the wonderful staff at Gorda Springs Resort.…

This is a very quiet - no TV or reception - resort on the ocean between San Simeon and Big Sur. It has a restaurant and small general store. We stayed in one of the Bungalows which had 2 bedrooms and a kitchenette. All of the cabins have Ocean views and from our cabin we could hear the sea lions talking. There were squirrels and a nest with baby birds on our front porch. It is a very restful and healthy place to stay. The bed was perfect and I had the best nights sleep. The restaurant has a very diverse menu and serves wine and beer. On weekends they have fresh BBQ made out front. There is a gas station also but gas was extremely expensive.

All staff was very friendly and helpful. Clean and comfortable cabin. We recomend the view in Palm house, My sister stay in Garden house with a large Jacuzzi (maybe for a 3 people) both with full ocean view. The food was for take out but very generous and tasty. We recomend Calamary and chips also the Clam chowder in a bred bowl. Delicious stay for all senses.

If you are thinking this is a 5 star resort like you would find in Mexico, you will be disappointed. If you want an affordable place to stay right on the California Coast with seals singing to you, very clean rooms, a nice bed, and good food, then this is your place! My wife and I loved it! Claudia was our hostess and our waitress combined. What fabulous service she provided! Always a smile, very friendly and always there to help. I would not hesitate to stop here again.

Uhhmm, we booked this by telephone. We actually drove past it as the description of a 'resort' suggests to me lots of amenities! My husband insisted we had passed it and we turned around. He was right! The cafe, restaurant, petrol station and shacks on the hillside were the Gorda Springs Resort! We stayed in the Palm House. First the positives, fantastic views, comfortable bed, hot water. Now the negatives: certainly the Palm House needs renovating, rather old, stained and tired fixture and fittings and very expensive for what it was.

I was so impressed with the level of attentiveness that we received from the staff. Our room was clean and well organized. We had dinner and breakfast at the local restaurant, the chef definitely knows how to cook! For the price of the room and the delicious food, I felt we had discovered a hidden jewel.
