Nice clean cabin. Clean fresh towels. Fun water holes and river. Free tubes, coffee and hot cocoa a plus. We stayed in a tent cabin in front of the river which is very nice! Site 98 has more space to cook. I did really hurt myself walking back at night, tripped over a wooden parking marker. Reported to a worker that didn’t seem to care. They should paint those markers clear to glow at night and walking paths. Other than being all bruised up my family had fun. Be ready to pay mega on any souvenirs. I overheard the worker on the phone say space 91 by the restroom was nice, it’s not! A few, very few should not be camping spaces. 86&89 no bueno or 105 on… look at the map online. I so want to go back and stay in an RV.

Fabulous campsite under redwood trees. Intimate and comfortable sites with picnic tables and fire rings. We did tent camping, but the cabins look excellent too. Super clean bathrooms/showers (great to take nice hot shower at end of the day). Bathrooms cleaned by campground staff multiple times per day (kudos to the staff for that ... very much appreciated!). Tubing on the Big Sur River was great fun. Campground provides big tubes or you can bring your own. Nice and gentle ride. Could ride it downstream to the Big Sur River Inn and then only 5 min walk back to campground. In addition, a playground and basketball court is available for the kiddos at Big Sur Campground. We heard lots of kids laughing and playing. It is also only 5 mins drive to Big Sur Bakery (YUMM!) and Pfeiffer Beach is close by for those wanting a little ocean sand between their toes. Would definitely return to Big Sur Campground and will recommend to our friends/family. Thank you again to the staff for a very enjoyable visit!

Stayed in a cabin here for 2 nights, and it was great location for exploring Big Sur. Cabin was clean, nice, and had everything we needed, but it was pretty small and basic, and there is no WiFi. The guy working at the registration stand at the entrance was incredibly helpful and gave us suggestions about what hikes to definitely check out in the area, he also gave us the advice to go to the library about 1/4 mile down the road to use their free WiFi and it worked great! It seemed like a nice place for families to stay, there were lots of kids playing basketball on the court near our cabin both nights and the campground offered a swimming area and inner tubes as well. I would recommend this as a good place to stay in Big Sur for anyone who is looking for something more affordable!

I think a lot must have changed or been updated because we did not deal with many problems the other reviews refer to. We had an awesome time, and it was on July 4th, so completely booked. The noise was not bad at all and got quiet by 9-10pm every night. We did have a site in the corner and not one of the center spots, but from what we saw, it wasn't loud. The spots were a good size, not huge, but we were comfortable and didn't feel on top of our neighbors. The spots are fairly flat, but not many tent location choices. At first, I was surprised at the cost and the addition of an "amenity cost." It is an expensive place for a campsite. But, after getting there, I forgot all about the cost. And the amenity pack was great! It came with quality camping cups, and the unlimited ice was clutch. One bundle of wood helps, and they have more than enough to purchase. There is a little store and cool shirts, hats, and sweatshirts. The bathrooms were SUPER CLEAN, and the showers were nice and HOT. The stream/river is a great spot to swim, relax, throw stones, explore, etc. It's not barebone/remote camping, but it also isn't glamping, it's in the middle. I found it to be a very nice and comfortable camping experience.

If you are seeking a place to stay in Big Sur, this place is incredible and an absolute MUST stay. My girlfriend and I lodged/visited numerous places throughout our trip in CA, but this was by far our favorite stay of all. Considering we spent most of our time enjoying the outdoors, the cabin we stayed in topped off the Big Sur experience! The cabin/campground was well-maintained, spacious, spotless, and truly a hidden gem. There are many reviews on here that notate the lack of amenities, but most don’t understand how desolate the Big Sur area is. I can personally say I expected much less for a campground. But the amount of sites, and different stay options can appeal to anyone. The staff on-site made us feel at home and were super welcoming. I want to give a shout out to Max (I believe he is a site manager) - he was very knowledgeable of the area and recommended numerous sight seeing/hiking/dinning options. We are so glad to have crossed paths with him! We loved Big Sur, but it would not have been the same if we didn’t stay here. 100% made the trip truly memorable.

Flew my fiance in from england to show her the nicer side of California. Big Sur is gorgeous and I was incredibly excited to show her. I was excited in particular about this spot due to the quiet time policies listed on their website - as we wanted a scenic romantic getaway We planned to stay for 3 nights - Night 1 was beautiful and Serene. every single one of the workers were also nice and made us feel welcome. The bathrooms were clean, there was always hot water and we also got complimentary free hot chocalate and coffee. We setup at site 05 by the river, was an absolute dream, we were already planning on our next trip. However, on night 2 a group showed up at about 4 PM and brought in 3 massive campers. This group was INCREDIBLY loud and obnoxious. They stayed up until about 2 AM partying, singing, and blasting music. They even started cutting firewood in the middle of the night. At one point in the middle of the night they started driving their cars around the lot because they complained it was to cold to walk to the bathroom. (We also took videos and photographs of this group to show staff the next day) It was an absolute nightmare for us. We actually left in the middle of the night on night 2, and slept in our car back in monterey. - We came back at around 8 AM the next day and the group was still partying and being loud. When i mentioned this to the staff they were incredibly sympathetic and mentioned we could move camp spots to escape the noise. However there was no camping spots sufficiently far away from this group to make it worth it to pack up all of our stuff and move it down 3 more sites for one more night. We ended up asking fi they would allow us to leave 1 day early and fortunately they did. But it really put a damper on the trip. Pros -Beautiful Area -Fantastic caring staff -plenty of ammentities on site Cons -0 Quiet time enforcement - you are at the mercy of any group that may show up and whatever decibel volume they choose to set. I would seriously reconsider coming here if you are hoping to spend a quiet weekend away with your significant other.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. While I am happy to hear you enjoyed the location and that our staff were kind and caring, I am very sorry to hear that you had such a disruptive evening as a result of the site next to you. We do take our quiet time seriously and our staff do their best to identify any excessive noise and respond in a timely and appropriate manner. However, we clearly failed in this instance. I sincerely apologize for this poor experience. We work hard to create a warm, friendly, relaxing environment and I am sorry that this was not the case for your stay. If you would be open to it, I would like to speak with you further about this situation. Please feel free to reach out to me in the office at 831-667-2322. Thank you, Samantha

We have just had the most wonderful stay at this campground in one of the little sleeping cabins - 98 ( beds only). The cabin is very cute it is supplied with beautiful quality bed linen and a cozy bed. There are lots of little shelves in the cabin to store things and a big area to tuck suit cases away under the bed. The cabin has power plus power sockets. Whilst there is no running water or a bathroom at this cabin the campground bathrooms are just a few feet away. Plus you can fill Billy’s and bottles with water from a tap near by. The two negative things I would say is that it cost a lot of money. Nearly $700 AUS dollars for two nights- as much as a five star hotel at home! On top of that because we traveled from Australia we couldn’t bring a camp stove with us. We needed to cook all our meals on the fire. You get one bag of fire wood included in the price but it is poor quality soft wood and burns quickly. We needed to buy lots more wood at $10 US dollars ( $15 AUS) spending over $150 on wood to cook with in total. Despite the astronomical cost we did love this campground- so it was worth it for a once in a lifetime trip to California. Also, our young son had the best time playing at the river and campground - it was hard to drag him away. Further, the bathrooms were amazingly clean as was the campground. Plus the hot coffee and hot water dispenser at reception was a lifesaver; enabling us to get coffee first thing in the morning without the need for lighting a fire to boil a billy.

Have stayed here several times over last few years and previously recommended them. The change is mainly due to their harsh no refund policy during storms. I can appreciate that firm refund policies can be necessary but there have to be exceptions. Yesterday, during the storm, was such was an exception. We were coming from the South and HWY 1 was closed. We called and they would not provide refunds. Ok, so we made a second attempt to come and drove the long way around from N which was technically open. Once past Carmel, however, the wind was so strong that several trees toppled across the road, a large boulder rolled onto hwy 1 partially blocking us and my trailer started to sway significantly making the journey unsafe. We pulled to the side of the road and considered options. The weather report did not show letting up for quite some time. With safety in mind, we decided to cancel our campsite and cabin. Once we found safe accommodation we found out that the entire area was under a flood warning due to rising water in the Big Sur river. Yes, the one that goes through camp. When we called them they continued to stand by their no refund policy and said the conditions were normal. That may be but that does not make the safe. So sorry, I will refuse to do business with them anymore. There have to be exceptions given the circumstances.

Hands down my favorite campsite in the US !!! The sites and facilities are top notch and the staff could not be nicer. Big Sur is truly a magical place with natural beauty second to none & this campground makes for the perfect place to stay and experience all Big Sur has to offer. The camp grounds are equally well suited to just stay at the grounds and enjoy being immersed in the redwoods. Just got home and can’t wait to go back, worth every cent and I’m grateful to have found this place, huge thanks to Max and the entire team :)

This is a one of a kind campsite in a one-of-a-kind place! The staff, facilities and amenities are all something you won’t find anywhere else! Unfortunately the price has more than doubled over the last year due to a corporate takeover. Because of this we won’t be back every year but have enjoyed all the years we’ve spent at Big Sur campground. Thank you guys so much for all of the wonderful memories it’s truly a one-of-a-kind place. Because of the price hike I’m guessing you will get a lot more campers requesting, “I want a full refund because there is a spider web and bugs in my campsite!” Haha enjoy!
