After searching numerous properties in the sub-$400/nt range we decided on Glen Oaks Big Sur. We could not have been happier with our decision!!
1. Location: right in the heart of Big Sur—excellent!
2. Accommodation: we stayed in the room with one Queen bed. It...More
I adore this place. I'm a California native and have visited Big Sur all my life. In fact, my parents honeymooned just down the road from Glen Oaks! This is my favorite place to stay. When I'm there, I want to be at one with...More
A great place to stay in Big Sur! After two nights, we didn't want to leave. The cabin was perfectly maintained, with a lot of little details clearly considered. Our cabin (the "Little Red House") felt secluded and quiet. We were a short walk to...More
We had a great stay, the amenities are very thoughtful and we would definitely recommend this place! Great communal fire pit, cozy room, heated floors and yoga mats! Friendly staff with good recommendations!
Living in Carmel, we sometimes forget to make the quick easy trip down the coast to Big Sur. We decided to try out the Glen Oaks in Big Sur for the night, and came back home relaxed and renewed by the wonders of all that...More

Been visiting BigSur for 35 years, often staying at Glen Oaks. Room choice should depend on what you like best. Motel rooms have been modernised , have heated shower room floor etc., nicely appointed and are close to front desk,; but they are quite small, in two blocks, each of rooms connected by rather thin walls, and are very near to the highway so can be a bit noisy. Cabins are very different, nicely furnished, mostly more secluded and offering at least some self-catering kit though mostly only microwave......some near the river, which is good to lull you to sleep! I think two are "semi-detached" so check if you would really prefer not to have a connected neighbour....Of course it's further to the office and the roadhouse for breakfast or free morning coffee/doughnut too! We think best is the one called "The Cottage" which is on the same side of the highway as the office, very secluded, and the only one which has full kitchen including oven, giant Smeg fridge-freezer and it has a very very comfortable bed.
Your choice! Good luck.....

There is a massive landslide that closed CA 1 between LA and Glen Oaks Big Sur. It is supposed to reopen late summer. That is not a firm date. We went to Glen Oaks from Los Angeles in September 2017 and did have to take 101 to Monterrey then go south on CA 1. Still completely worth it. Check online before your trip to see the status.
