Try and go once a year. This year Nature took its course and made it impossible to travel there. Bridges down. Heart broken. Have loved this place from first finding it in 1970. Have shared it with loved family and friends through the many years. Never experienced anything but love and goodness. Donated to keep them alive but worry that's...

My fiancé and I went to Deetjen's on New Years 2017. My parents had gone when they were younger and had great things to say and it lived up to their praise. The restaurant might have been the best meal we had ever had and our little cottage was so fun and cozy. Just remember absolutely no cell reception for...

The interior decor is cozy and warm, and is the perfect place for dinner on a cool and/or foggy night in Big Sur. The service was excellent and the food was very good. Half chicken was very flavorful.

We've stayed here twice over the years, and it is a fabulous place. Rustic but comfortable. Big Sur is expensive so don't expect all the modern conveniences. I particularly like that there are no TVs! The restaurant was pretty good, and the service was very friendly. Please be aware that the bridge on rt 1 just north of here was...

This is a gorgeous and special place to stay. It's historic - romantic - and highly memorable. I recommend if you like one of a kind experiences, if you are patient and interested in others, and if you are someone who appreciates the difference between hospitality and customer service. Choose to stay in Monterey instead, if you would like a...

I called for information about rooms and availability at Deetjens for Sept 2017 and was repeatedly told there was a room, then there were no rooms, then there were rooms for only two of my three requested nights, then asked what was the name of my wedding party (I was not part of any wedding party), then asked "what do...

Loved the rustc setting in lush landscape complete with short walk to spectacular overlook of Pacific. Each cabin has unique story. Journals in each room date back 20+ years w/former guests musings... many romantic, many confessionals, many surprisingly personal. Writings, no doubt prompted by no cell service, internet or tv. A treat if you don't require amenities.

Many people love breakfast, but I'm not one of them. However Deetjens has "worth the wait" options for everyone in your family. I had the yogurt parfait with granola and purchased some granola to take home. They are famous for their eggs Benedict and my neice had them; they were delicious. Hubby had the huevos rancheros and he scoffed them...

This place isn't fancy, but it is great. The hotel itself is older and definitely rustic. I didn't have a phone, TV, or internet access in my room and I couldn't get a signal on my mobile phone. But that's part of the fun. If you're looking for a fancy place, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a unique Big...

Over Thanksgiving break, we had a party of 8 that drove down to Big Sur from Monterey. We had stuffed french toast and a variety of eggs benedict. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was magical. We followed a road up the hill and had a beautiful view of the ocean.
