The setting is idyllic, amongst the redwoods. The lodge cabins were very spacious and rustic. We had our own balcony. The lodge is walking distance to the trails/park so it's great to leave your car in one place. It's easy to find and Big Sur Bakery is 5 min away and Julia Pfieffer Park is about 20 min. Cell reception is spotty and the wifi is weak but that was a plus for us.

We were there in Dec. and it was cold and rainy. The price per night was higher than anywhere else over 300.00 per night. The room we stayed in was bare minimum with no wifi or TV. They do tell you this before we booked it but thought ok we could do it for one night. Under the cold rainy circumstances in the winter months, this was not ok. The lodge was open but a good distance walk away from out room so we did not bother to go there. The person at the front desk was pre-occupied on the phone on the check-in and check out and could hardly be bothered to answer any questions or welcome us. The lights were so dull that you could not read by them and it was out dated. I did complain and they refunded us about 50.00. Still 250.00 was way too much to stay there and we will never go back. We felt ripped off to say the least.

This place is in such a nice quiet spot for camping but the rooms/cabins are from the 60's. If you are looking to pay top dollar for a 1960's place this is the spot for you. The food was bland and way over rated, which is really sad because it could be so much more. My best advice is to stop and check out the spots like pfiffer beach and the large redwoods then keep driving to the next town to stay.

Response from Jeanette Kenworthy, General Manager at Big Sur Lodge
Responded Mar 8, 2020
Hello Larry, Thank you for your feedback from your recent stay at the Big Sur Lodge. Taking the time to advise us of your concerns is the first step towards improvement of our services. Please allow me to apologize on behalf of the Lodge for the dissatisfaction of your stay. We just launched a new restaurant menu last week and our head chef is bringing in more locally sourced, organically grown options for our guests. He is providing training for the team and we are excited to offer these sustainable, healthier, and tastier options. We have a new General Manager who is working hard to incorporate fresh ideas and updates to our cottages to enhance the natural beauty of the environment. These changes do take time, however, and our team is working diligently in this transition time to ensure guest satisfaction. We hope you will reconsider a stay with us should you ever return to the lovely Big Sur area. It would be our delight to host you and give you an opportunity to restore your faith in us. Warm Regards, Jennifer Front Desk Supervisor

Big Sur Lodge is a lovely property to stay at. It has a very rustic cabins. The view from Route 1 is breathtaking and the greatness of the overarching trees is serene and tranquil. The food was good and the entire stay was very memorable. Big Sur Lodge is a true California getaway.

We stayed at the Big Sur Lodge for one night as part of a family vacation. The lodge was just fine, but the two bedroom family cottage felt dark and a bit dirty. There were strands of hair that did not belong to me or my family in my bed. The wall space above The shower was moldy.
