This resort was all that we could ask for! The check in process was as smooth as it could be considering there was a bus load of people who arrived at the same time. They had 4 employees doing check in so the wait was not that long. There were beverages provided as soon as you entered the resort to help pass the time. The rooms were clean and beds made everyday with new sheets! The room we checked into had a slight musty smell, understandable considering the humidity and heat of the location. We called the front desk and within 20 minutes there was a dehumidifier put into the room and the room was cleaned, smell was gone for the rest of the vacation! The only complaint I would have for the resort in general is the bracelets. They are your room access and show the staff that you are a guest, no issue there but they are tied and the knots can easily come undone!! Which they did on my 2 sons wrists. We were able to find the bracelets but going forward we did wrist checks regularly. The replacement charge is $110 USD!!
The beach was very good as well. We actually went to an area a little further south 14 months ago and there was NO beach at that location. The beach sand was fairly clean, they cleaned the seaweed daily, so there was no accumulation to speak of. The water was very clean and no visible clumps of seaweed at all. There was no smell at all either!
The activity staff, Vibe Team, Brayan in particular were amazing! There were scheduled activities for all ages at various times and locations throughout the resort. The nightly shows were entertaining and were facilitated by the Vibe Team.
The á la carte restaurants were very good!! Not that the kids are picky eaters but they loved every meal. The sushi restaurant Zen, we went to twice, once for teppanyaki and sushi, was very good and entertaining!! The steakhouse Hunter was excellent as well, the cuts of meat were a good size and done to perfection! The service by Noe and Rene was top notch!! The tex mex restaurant, Armadillo, food was very good, my son said "This is my best meal of all time!!" The Gourmet Marche buffet always had a huge selection and not only was there always something you could eat there was always something you would go back to for seconds! The coffee cafe on the main level actually had the best gelato I have ever had!!
Overall I would definitely go back to the Royalton Riviera in a heart beat!!!

We had swimout 7114. Great location and one of the only swim outs you can climb over the edge instead of having to walk through your room. Location had plenty of sun and shade, depending on the time of day. Downfall, there was very often a swampy smell outside near the swimout pool. They did attempt to clean the swim out pool but didn’t accomplish much in the 3 minutes every few days they spent on it. My husband asked if he could have the net. We were able to get drink service right to our room pool. Thanks to Daniel! The room location is busy, but we like it as we enjoy people watching. Not overly loud as there are only a few pool time activities daily. If you don’t want to sit at the nightly entertainment, you can hear it from your patio here. There are always plenty of pool towels available. We walked the beach daily but never went in the water and there weren’t many people entering it. Not sure why.
We didn’t do Diamond Club and didn’t feel it was necessary as we were able to book all restaurants with the app.
Loved that the Italian restaurant was open for lunch. Service at the a la carts was excellent. The buffet was ok but generally temperature was almost cold. A bit repetitive after 2 weeks. But the fresh fish station was great! And if you have a sensitivity to scent, the buffet has scent infusers all over.
Evening entertainment was ok. Some evenings, they had constant entertainment and some there were large gaps in the timing. The app was not always up to date to find an activity schedule.
We loved Jesus at the main bar where the entertainment was. He works so hard!
There are a LOT of weddings here. Sometimes 2 or 3 a day. Imagine our surprise one morning while having coffee in our room to be startled by a very large Indian wedding with a full mariachi right outside our room at 9:30 am!
Also first resort we’ve been at that we needed bug spray for mosquitoes.

Excellent resort, the entertainment was great for the kids, the vibe team were always interacting with the children and finding activities to do around the pool to keep them entertained. Danny flo, Reyes, Nector, amazing! Can’t remember everyone’s names but they definitely made our stay a memorable one especially the children Ruby and Lola from England. Food variety was fab, lots of places to eat from and the buffet had a huge variety. If you do wish to eat at one of the restaurants which require a reservation you do have to be quick to get a table once they open unless you are a diamond club member. The steakhouse was by far the best restaurant to eat at. The resort itself is very clean and always being kept on top of, the main pool itself could maybe do with a little maintenance but there was work starting when we were there. That is the only thing I could possibly think of. Beds were made daily and clean towels. Definitely book the excursions within the hotel as you get looked after, the person you book with is always contactable for any problems. We booked the jungle boat tour, Jolly Roger and dolphin swim. Definitely worth going to. Evening entertainment was great, something different each night, again be quick to get a table. Days tend to start early here and so do the evenings otherwise you get left with a late table for food and no table to sit at for the evening entertainment. We loved the foam party on a Friday, it can get a little chaotic but lots of fun. If you are with the kids and they love snacks I’d recommend taking them with you, it costs $12 for one bag of crisps in the resort. It also costs $80 for a return taxi out of the resort to local shops so I’d recommend taking a variety of first aid, and medicines with you. First aid are around to help which were a god send. We absolutely loved it here and have some brilliant memories. I’d definitely return again!

Having previously visited this property and enjoyed a wonderful experience, we were eager to share that same level of excellence with our group of 14. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations, leaving us embarrassed for recommending the property.
From the start, the trip was marred by inefficiencies and a lack of the hospitality we have come to associate with Marriott properties. The check-in process was long and chaotic, taking over an hour, with staff appearing disorganized and unsure of how to handle the flow of guests.
Once we settled in, we noticed a significant decline in the cleanliness and upkeep of the hotel. Specific issues included: Mold and dirt covering the outdoor hot tub and upstairs balcony. A member of our party finding their room unclean upon arrival, with unmade beds, stains on the mattress, and dirty towels left in the bathroom. Several showers not draining properly, which made them unusable. Dingy hotel towels that were poorly stocked and inconsistently replenished. Ceiling leaking from the floor above tub. Black mold in various areas of the hotel including restaurants and pools.
Our dining experiences were similarly disappointing. On our first night at Hunter Steakhouse, the napkins provided were damp and had an unpleasant odor. Even after requesting replacements, the smell lingered in the room, tarnishing the atmosphere. Additionally, we were informed that to secure a dinner table, we needed to purchase $300 in wine or food upgrades, even though the restaurant had visibly open seats throughout the evening. The following evening, we again had to spend $300 in upgraded food and wine to be seated in Agave. None of this felt “All-Inclusive”.
One particularly upsetting incident occurred at the Scoops Gelato and Caffe Lounge, where an employee shut the door in our faces, claiming it was closing. All the other patrons in line were allowed in to order except our group of 4. It felt personal and unprofessional.
The service across the property was inconsistent and lacked warmth. At the Martini Mix, the morning bartender was rude and dismissive, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Unlike our past visit to this resort where staff would greet guests in passing, we were ignored in hallways and common areas.
This was a stark contrast to our prior visit to the Royalton Riviera Cancun, where exceptional service, cleanliness, and attention to detail were the norm. It is deeply concerning to see such a drastic decline in the standards of this property, especially given its affiliation with Marriott’s Autograph Collection.
We trusted this resort to provide the same level of excellence we had previously experienced and were disappointed to find that it no longer lives up to that reputation. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and address the issues that are tarnishing the experience at this property.

Our family was very dissapointed with our stay at the Royalton Riviera Cancun. There just were not enough staff on duty to handle the number of guests at the resort. Every day we were met with lineups/wait times for most activities. We were 'regular' guests - not diamond/elite so I assume those guests have a better experince but I would not reccomend this resort.
Our main priorities for a resort are the resaurants and the pool/beach facilities and we found both to be lacking.
The food was OK - not bad but not exceptional either. The most popular restaurants are extremely hard to get into as they hold a lot of the tables for elite/diamond guests. Since we were 'regular' guests we couldn't even get into these restaurants when we did have a reservation. We made a reservation a day in advance and when we arrived we were advised to come back in 20 minutes. When we did we were told to come back in another 20 mins. When we came back the second time the lineup have tripled and all the people in line had made reservations. We gave up and went to the buffet. At other resorts we have enjoyed, they don't take reservations - you just show up and get a buzzer with a realistic estimate of the wait time.
Tip - the Indian restaurant doesn't seem to get that busy. If you can't get in anywhere try that or the Texmex.
The pools and beach are nice but for the first 4 days of our trip it was very difficult to find towels. All the towel distibution areas were empty and when a staff member did show up with a few towels they were mobbed by desparate guests. Then suddenly on the 5th day there were an ambundance of towels everywhere.
Some other issues - individually not a big deal but since stuff like this was happening every day it really made our stay less enjoyable.
When we arrived we had to wait over 2 hours to get our room.
At the buffet, we were seated by the person in charge and then we were kicked out of that section by a waiter - the table we were told to sit at was reserved for someone else. We had to get back in line at the entrace and be seated again. This happened twice.
The last 2 days of our stay housekeeping took the dirty/used room towels and did not replace them. Both times we called housekeeping, who told us they would bring fresh towels right away. Both times we did not receive towels.
Most days in the buffet they had no spoons - and then on a couple of days they did have spoons.
Safey tip - if it rains, the floors inside the main building get super slippery. They have roof openings to increase air circulation (which works very well as there are nice breezes inside) but the rain gets in. Since the floors are nicely polished/smooth, I saw a lot of people falling down. They had some staff trying to squeegee things up but when it rains be sure to be very careful.

Pro: It was a decent stay at a Mexican All-Inclusive as it has everything in an All-Inclusive. The layout of the property is great, as you are never that far from the beach from any room on the property. They had a great mixture of restaurants including a Japanese, Indian, Italian, Caribbean, Mexican, Sports Bar, and a few others.
Food at the centralized buffet was decent, and was generally fresh, and abundant.
The staff and Butlers were for most part very accommodating and nice, and most of them tried very hard to do an excellent job! Certain Butlers did a better job, it's coin toss on who you get.
Con: Diamond Club: check-in was fine, but required a few more staff to attend to guest. While it was in a separate area, it did not make any sense for the guests to wait while the regular check-ins/outs were wide open.
Diamond Club pool area: The attendants were rationing towels, and questions myself for taking too many. I understand the rational behind it but the approach was wrong to a guest. They were only interested if they received a tip from the guest, or if they were able to up-sell a Bali bed for 100+ USD. Because no one was really "buying" their pitch, they offered to give a "discount" of 20 USD for the rest of the day (mid-day special....)!
Continuously up-sell to Spas, Bali Beds, Sake at Japanese, Coupon Book of useless credits etc, the list goes on. I can see them selling a premium stall at the washrooms soon enough with the view a premium piece of wall.
BED BUGS or Mosquitoes, either or was excessive as my spouse had been bitten all over the leg.
Would I recommend? If it was an extremely good deal, maybe, but otherwise I would look elsewhere, especially being a Marriott Branded Autograph Collection hotel.

I was not impressed with the resort, but also not surprised by the quality based on pictures I seen beforehand. We went for our friends wedding so chose to stay at the same resort as the wedding but we usually stay in the hotel zone. The ocean is not crystal blue waters like you’d expect in Cancun. The resort is a couple of kilometres from the highway so you’re quite isolated from everything. There were so many things out of order during our stay and construction happening everywhere on the resort it seemed. There were no signs but people from our group walked 15-20 minutes down the beach and seen crocodiles. The rooms smelled musty and all of our clothes and luggage ended up smelling that way so we had to wash & clean everything once we got home. Certain areas within the resort smelled like stinky water, mostly just due to the location of the resort (pretty much a swamp between the resort and highway). Any service (guest or room service) we requested was not prompt or not followed through with. The gift shop/store on the resort is super expensive, they definitely take advantage that you’re so far away from any other stores. For example, a big bag of Doritos was $12 USD. The positives were that there were a good amount of swimming pools on the resort so lots of options. The food in the buffet was decent too. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Overall a fabulous family holiday. All the staff were friendly and welcoming and keen to look after us. The room was cleaned daily, fresh towels etc. We upgraded to Diamond Club which gave exclusive use of one of the many lovely pools with drinks delivered to sunbeds etc. Eddie and Diana were the best team for this, always laughing and nothing was too much trouble. For us this was a win as the main pool had too much going on during the day for our personal liking (although if activities are want you want then they were great). Diamond Club also gave us a butler service and they personally checked in with us every day (Efrain and Enrique). The Spa and Gym are excellent. There is an excellent choice of restaurants, really impressed by the Zen Teppanyaki experience where chef puts on a display and cooks for a small group. My only negative about the restaurants was the portion sizes which were quite small. All the staff wear hair nets and are very attentive at topping up water and wine and clearing plates away. There was evidence of maintenance being done but this wasn't intrusive and I took this as a good sign, rather than leave things to get dangerous/ tired looking they were replacing small areas of broken tiles etc and re painting areas. The swimming pools were cleaned every morning. The sunbeds were in good condition and fresh beach towels always avaliable. There is quite a bit of seaweed that washes up on the beach but this was much less the second week when there wasn't as much wind. And it's just short strands that float on the surface rather than bits that cling round your legs. There are quite a few staff trying to sell services eg taking photos of you, offering trips, offering massages etc but they were not pushy when we said no and did seem to remember us and not keep asking every day. The drinks are definitely premium brands (eg we had Cracken) and generous measures! I think they use local brands for making the cocktails.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. I read a lot of the reviews after I had booked and was a bit concerned about some of the negative comments.... but can honestly say it lived up to our expectations.

Currently staying in this hotel in room 8354 Got here yesterday, when we walked in to our room first thing we noticed that it is outdated, but worst about room it got cockroaches. Second, bedsheets had blood stains. After mentioning at front desk bedsheets were changed within half an hour they were replaced with old washed off sheets but at least no blood stains. We requested a new room, to what we got answer nothing is available. Now it’s been over 24 hours we actually brought one cockroach to front desk to prove them that we can’t stay in that room. They promised to relocate us to another room tomorrow, and made us sign paper on which says that we have to move out from current room before 11am and they will have new room available for us after 4pm. Will see how it goes. Will write another review after leaving this place , really hoping things will get better. So far worst experience we ever had in our life at all inclusive hotels.

The food and pools were great. The kids club and gym facilities were excellent. We had a bad experience checking in. We were initially promised 300 in credits when checking in but when we did check in they told us it was partial credits that were in $40 increments and only if we bought services like the excursions etc. So basically we would have to spend a couple hundred to get $40 off. We had booked an ocean view one bedroom suite. When we checked into our room we had no ocean view. It was the second floor and the ocean was visible through a crack beside the building and mainly blocked by trees. It was clearly a pool view room which was confirmed by the worker helping with our bags. The front desk and manager claimed it was ocean view and told us no other room was available. If we wanted to move we would have to wait until half way through our trip or pay to upgrade to a smaller room. Both options didn't make sense. Our sofa bed was brutal. The mattress was super thin and you could feel the frame through it. The mattress was filthy and the sofa was totally sunken in. Some parts of the resort are out dated but a lot is being renovated. We enjoyed the restaurants and food. The service was really good for the most part. My daughter loved the kids club. The kids pool area is pretty large but some of the slides were damaged and one was actually cracked. The Beach was really nice sand with some seaweed but overall we could tell they cleaned it so we enjoyed the water and sand.

Elevators are reliable, all work fine.
Only one that is more tricky is if you are wanting to go to the sports bar, where the elevator is under lock and key.

Definitely worth booking the ocean view or pool view. We got stuck viewing the jungle, and literally see staff out there smoking and pushing rubbish etc.
Say today is Monday, you can reserve Wednesday. I reserved most days on the app a few days ahead. When the option was not available, I just asked the restaurant directly and they were able to fit me in, or tell me when I could go.
