This was my first time in Cancun and I have to say, the experience I had here at this resort was amazing!! Before leaving, I had read so many negative reviews and it made me feel anxious and worried. Check in was a breeze and the staff was very friendly. Our butler Efrain was amazing. You can communicate with your butler via WhatsApp. He had a huge smile on his face every time we saw him and when we spoke to him, he was so enthusiastic to help. He went above and beyond. We had 2 excursions planned during our stay and pick up was 7:15am so getting breakfast would have been a problem at the main buffet. Efrain arranged breakfast to be brought to our room promptly for 6am. Among other things. We tipped our butler at the end of our stay. So I cannot say that I had to tip to get good service as some people said they experienced I had a Diamond Club, luxury suite with a swim out. The room was beautiful and pretty big. The AC was amazing. We booked 2 beds but they only had 1 King bed and a sofa bed available. We made it work. Towels, toilet paper, water, drinks etc, were fully stocked twice a day. If you need to request something from the housekeeping team, most seem to not speak english at all, but with amazing Wifi throughout the entire resort, it was nothing google translate couldn't fix. The main buffet was huge with so much variety to choose from and the food was great! The only restaurants with AC were in the diamond club area in the buffet and Hunters. All other restaurants we went to were open air, but we were lucky that every night, there was an amazing breeze, otherwise it would have been a bit tough to eat in the heat. I saw many people with hand held fans. I found the food surprisingly very good! We went to Zen. Armadillo, Hunters, Caribbean and Grazie. To be honest, the reviews I read about this place were so different from my experience that I wonder if some people are being too critical. "Room service takes hours to arrive" The staff tell you that if you order room service, it would take about an hour. They also tell you that only Diamond Club members can make reservations for the restaurants. Nothing was a surprise. As for the water, being brown and murky, yes it was, but the hotel staff has no control over that. It had rained the day we arrived so there was seaweed the next day. Throughout the week, the water was clearing up. You can see that the staff work very hard to make your stay a memorable one. Most people we saw, did not tip. So its fair to say that the great service provided everywhere was genuine. Would I recommend this place , YES I would. I would suggest to Upgrade to Diamond Club however and I would let people know about the open air restaurants as I found that to be he biggest challenge.

The only positive thing I can say about this resort is that the staff is exceptional. Our butler Manny went above and beyond all expectations to make our stay fun and free of stress. He made sure we always had dinner reservations, got us switched to the correct room, recommended fun activities every day, and always responded immediately when we had questions. As for the rest of the resort…… to start, we were assigned to a room that was already occupied by another family - and we unknowingly walked into the room while they were in it. We were then downgraded to a room that was not “beach view” as we had paid for. Finally, after 24 hours, we were moved to the correct room thanks to our butler, Manny. The next night, we found old blood stains on our sheets. We then lost air conditioning for part of the next day. If the staff hadn’t been so great, I would have quickly given this place one star.

Pros: Close to airport Easy to navigate, property is large but not overwhelming So many pools Entertainment all day and night Diamond club is worth it. Better pools, drinks, service and free cabana’s Great spa and well appointed gym Great with dietary issues. High awareness. The on site photographers were incredible The butlers were great and helped us celebrate a special occasion in a really memorable way. Gelato 24/7! Rooms have multiple hot tubs and two rainfall showers in massive bathroom Multiple restaurants, broad range of culinary experiences. Cons: The food is not good. At all. In any restaurant. Limited pool dining of which it is self serve with long lines for a burger or nachos. No server waited on us, even in Diamond club. Limited in room dining . The pools outside of the Diamond club are not well maintained. The beach had a foul odor and the water color was brown with debris. We did not swim in the ocean and enjoyed the pools. The rooms smelled strongly of mold and must. We tried to move rooms , but it was everywhere. Inconsistent housekeeping, if it occurred- things were missing ( forgot to bring towels) The rooms are dated and in need of refresh. Multiple stains on surfaces, water damage, etc. Closet door kept breaking, no hot water, etc The dining areas are not Air conditioned which made dining tremendously uncomfortable. Dining Staff were not well trained. Many were rude. our orders frequently came out incorrectly despite ordering in English and Spanish. Staff is clearly overwhelmed particularly at check in. For 4 weeks prior to arrival, I tried to contact the resort multiple times per week in advance to confirm my request for 2 queen beds, adjoining rooms. I tried calling, email, using bonvoy app and using the email sent by the property to do pre check in requests. No one contacted me back nor where my requests accommodated.

We stayed at this hotel late July for two weeks. We decided to upgrade our stay to Diamond Club with swim out room around 6 months before our stay. For us, the upgrade alone was nearly £3,500 and it was definitely not worth it. The room was very tired and run down and definitely not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. As you will see from the pictures, there’s paint falling off walls and a broken coffee table in the room. Some of the main attractions for us to upgrade was things like pre bookings for restaurants to avoid ques. Everyone has to wait for reservations and it’s only if you pay for an upgraded bottle of wine or upgraded steak at an additional cost that you are able to be seated early. There’s no pillow menu as stated, mini bar only stocked once a week. We were really surprised to see that the hotel tries to get you to spend and upgrade all of the time! For example at night there are certain tables outdoors that you can only sit at if you pay 35USD as they class them as good seats to view the evening entertainment(needless to say, those seats were rarely bought) as people have paid enough money to stay at that hotel. Your butler has many other rooms to look after so unless you’re a good tipper they won’t give you the time of day. We had two ladies looking after us so when one was on a day off , the other would be on. We didn’t manage to tip our buttler on the second last day of our holidays as we missed her as we were on a trip. As soon as there was no tip, all communication stopped and we didn’t even get a goodbye from her which I thought was a little disappointing as it really showed that they were not interested in giving you a service unless you tipped. Poor end to our upgraded stay. It’s all about how much this hotel can get you to spend on top of your stay. Cabanas around the pool are free if you spend over 100USD on a bottle of champagne. Another example of this that at the pool bar the staff were reluctant to make my little bit chocolate milkshakes as it took to long at the busy bar. They would tell me they don’t do milkshakes but as soon as my husband went and ordered a beer and tipped them, they would make a milkshake for him. Our room was cleaned at 7pm every night which interrupted getting ready every evening which was quite annoying. Plus we only ever got two towels even though there was three of us. We having to ask daily for more towels and ant extra tea cup every single day for two weeks. Restaurants are good and the buffet is well stocked with lots of choice and really lovely quality too. In our opinion, there is nothing premium about the hotel and absolutely not worth the money unfortunately. My feeling is that it’s a good quality 4 star hotel but nothing higher than this.

Had a wonderful fortnight in the Royalton Riviera Cancun, would highly recommend. Highlights - the gym staff: Big Jorge, Edgar, Astrid and Gabby - could not have been nicer or more energetic…great workouts each day and super positive attitude, we were buzzing after each visit. Another highlight - the beach staff: Ruben José is a legend, he made us feel at home, and couldn’t do enough for us; his partner Romero literally ran from beach to bar and back with orders, all day long….two incredibly nice gentlemen who alone would encourage us to return to Mexico. The restaurants and buffet - fabulous selection and staff. The Indian - Taj - was our favourite - for both food and staff; the staff on the morning breakfast buffet - Diamond section - were incredibly nice - Alfonso in particular, and a girl who always worked with him but whose name unfortunately we cannot recall…she was always full of smiles. On the negative side…our ‘dedicated butler’ didn’t work out at all, we were there a day or 2 before we knew he even existed, and we eventually gave up on him, as none of our restaurant bookings were working out. And folks, it’s noisy! We were far enough away from the nightly activity, but people returning to their rooms afterward have no consideration for residents trying to sleep…phonecalls, football, and loud conversations took place outside our door, sometimes until 1 or 2am….and at 4am the loud trolleys/suitcases etc would start rolling along the corridors again…as a result we slept very little for the first few nights. But overall….as I said above, the gym staff and our beach staff (Diamond Club beach) would draw us back…they were all amazing.

We arrived at royalton in late January for a 10day stay. We’ve been to this resort 3 times and I have to say the first 2 stays were quite beyond our very best expectations. This last stay was not so great;to be honest. This resort is not inexpensive,so when you pay a premium price,I think that a better level of service should be expected. First let me say that the restaurants and the staff there were BEYOND wonderful! Absolutely at the top of their professions in my opinion. We were in a diamond club room, which was “ocean view”,but honestly, that was a stretch. Yes we could see the ocean if we went on the balcony and leaned out and looked hard left. Sure….we could see some water. Mostly we saw the pool and Mexican restaurant. (The Mexican restaurant is amazing btw) Our butler service was absolutely terrible. With the exception of the staff who substituted for our assigned butler…those gentlemen (and 1 lady) were outstanding! BUT it was hard to get water sent to our room,it was hard to get beer put in our fridge,or snacks. It was simply not what we were accustomed to experiencing at Royalton. And I don’t know if I would spend the 10000 Canadian dollars to go there again. It kinda takes a lot of work to save that much money for us at least. I don’t know. I mean, our family and our friends that we vacation with, and only see once a year, love what Royalton used to be. I don’t know if we will go back. I would say that for the money,Royalton at this point is not worth the extra cost in my opinion. I’d recommend an Ibersostar resort because it’s less expensive and frankly, you get the same level of service. Royalton was better 3 years ago,it’s not better now. I wish that I could say “yes definitely go here,it’s worth the cost!”…..but I can’t say that. Royalton is just “ok” it’s a very expensive “ok”. If one does choose Royalton,I wouldn’t say it’s a wrong choice. No it’s not. It’s a great resort. BUT don’t pay for diamond club etc….you won’t get better service just go with a less expensive option and you’ll feel like it was an amazing vacation. To leave off on a positive note, Royalton has amazing huge pools. There’s entertainment for kids and adults. It’s very close to the Cancun airport which is a big deal these days! AND the staff. The people who work at Royalton are almost always just the best. SO…. don’t pay extra, but definitely don’t “not” go if it’s a hotel you were considering.

We are just back from our 2 week honeymoon at Royalton Riviera and it was the most amazing holiday! I spent months before this trip reading online reviews and Facebook groups panicking that I had made a huge mistake booking this hotel and wasted a lot of money, but PLEASE let me tell you I did not witness a single one of the things people often moan about, and the few things people did moan about are so minuscule it won’t ruin your holiday! We were booked into the Diamond Club Hideaway (adults only) area and had a junior suite that looked into the pool. The room was beautiful and the view we got was perfect! The room was cleaned every day, mini fridge was filled every 2/3 days but that what was because we didn’t use it too much and we received turn down only 3 times out of our 14 night stay (only thing we are a little sad about but let’s be serious it’s not hard to pull your covers down yourself) The resort itself is gorgeous and the restaurant are decorated beautifully, as people have mentioned there isn’t much AC in the restaurants but most are open air so difficult to achieve that, we had hand held fans that worked a treat when we were too hot but they weren’t used that much. The food everywhere was DELICIOUS, so much choice in the buffet and the a la carte portion sizes are perfect (if you’re still hungry you can just order more aswell). The guacamole was also on another level, never tasted anything like it, SOO good! The absolute highlight of the trip was the staff, they honestly go out their way to do anything they can for you and they are so friendly! We had a butler through diamond club called Alberto, he was brilliant and although we didn’t see him much we could WhatsApp whenever and he would help with anything. The pool staff however made our holiday: - The pool butlers Valeria & Ulises greeted us every morning with towels and always took the time to ask us what we had been up to, they got to know where roughly we liked to sit and would always keep an eye on your things when we were in the pool. On our last day Valeria even took the time to write us a goodbye message with sand next to our beds which was lovely! - The vibe team, Jonathan, Cynthia and the team (I couldn’t remember all of the names) who literally do not stop all day making sure everyone is entertained, involved and having the best time! - Pool waiters - Noe & Ana to name too were fantastic, so friend and always came round to check we had drinks and by the end of the holiday knew our drinks off by heart. - Pool bar staff - Henri and the team were great, again by the end of the holiday knew our orders. I can’t imagine it’s easy serving a full bar of drunk people all day but the did an amazing job! We went on 3 trips during our stay that we booked with Nexus in the hotel - Cenotes, Snorkelling with turtles & beach club - coco bongos (front row) - Isla Mujeres All three trips were fantastic and so well run, again with amazing staff and great food! I would highly recommend all of these trips. We went to the hydro spa twice and had a great experience however both experience were a bit different so not alot of continuity but had a great time none the less. We also went for a couples massage which was lovely, however there is a tent on the beach that does it alot cheaper and several people we met there said they were brillaint too! The only negative I would say we experienced during our stay was witnessing some extremely rude guests that treated the staff horribly, had no consideration of other guests and also moaned about literally everything and anything. This honeymoon was probably a once in a life time trip and we had the best time and would go back in a second! Highly Recommend, please don’t let people put you off!!!

We had a wonderful experience at Royalton Riviera Cancun celebrating my husband's 50th birthday party, July 12 through 17th. From the planning to the coordination of the dinner party, Mariela the groups coordinator was very responsive, helpful, and attentive to all the details. Thank you Mariela and crew, Jessica from Concierge, and Neto -the chef. Shout out to the manager Xemina Victoria for your wonderful gestures, providing our small group with concession for the Welcome party and making our stay wonderful. We had some issues with our room and Juan Paulo from the Guest service was so helpful. The one major drawback was inadequate cooling systems at this facility, especially at the restaurants. It was very hot during our stay and felt like there was no AC. The food was pretty basic, the facility was otherwise amazing.

The hotel itself is nice and the staff were good - especially those at the coffee shop. However, the cleanliness and upkeep of the hotel is very poor. Housekeeping would simply change the duvet sheets and replace some, but on a few occasions, not all towels. The duvet had a singular bedsheet placed on top, meaning the bottom portion which comes into contact with our skin is dirty and has been used by others. This is highly unsanitary and falls drastically beneath of the standard expected from a five star resort. The floor of the rooms were never moped or cleaned and the place was rampant with dust and stains. The sliding cupboard door in the bedroom would not work properly as it was stuck in the middle. This meant we could only use two small portions of the cupboard next to the door and could not unpack. The bathroom lock was also faulty, causing one of us to get locked in. The pool area was a slight improvement and drinks were good. However, the pools has lots of visible dirt in them and were not cleaned often. My biggest complaint is the lack of air conditioning in public spaces and restaurants. The lobby area is open and has no windows, however, during the summer it is too hot and uncomfortable. The buffet and restaurant are not sufficiently air conditioned, meaning you’re sweating away whilst you eat. The staff ignore your concerns regarding this and are unhelpful.
