Decent hotel, beautiful areas and pools, the spa staff was very professional. However, the hotel wants you to buy a 20 years club membership that is insanely expensive: $100 thousand (one of the cheapest tiers) with a down payment of $34 thousand at a 40% interest rate. I mean, this is almost laughable if we didn’t have to spend 2 hours in a presentation. They are very aggressive and after I said no to the seller, who was really nice, his boss and eventually, another guy came to try to convince us, no matter how many times I told them I was not going to buy anything. Let me be clear, we didn’t even know about this presentation when El Cid representative at the airport sold us one Isla Mujeres package and gave us a discount at this hotel with a “breakfast” included and a free massage at the beach. Believe me, I needed the massage after the presentation. DO NOT take any discount if this means expending a morning doing this, especially if your vacation time is limited. The whole experience was ruined, otherwise, it could have been a hotel we would have return in the future.

Dear Guest, I hope you are doing well and enjoying a lovely Tuesday, I am sorry to hear that the membership presentation was a sour note on what was an otherwise excellent vacation at our resort. We adhere to the highest customer service etiquette and train all staff on proper, efficient and pleasant customer service as well as when to take no for an answer. It is clear that this was not that case here. Our aim is to make people happy, delighted and optimistic, never has it been our intention to anger or frustrate our guests. Rest assured your comments do not fall on deaf ears and we will follow up on this situation. I do apologize if you feel we wasted your time, this was never our intention.. I kindly invite you and your loved ones to revisit any of our El Cid Resorts where we will gladly welcome you, your friends and family with open arms. Best regards El Cid Vacation Club.

This property is overall, a beautiful place What makes it even more special, are its employees. In Aromas, the cafe, you can personalize any kind of coffee, or ice cream you desire. But be sure you request Karim Diaz to be your Barista. I have never had so much detail done on a cappucino. Karim, takes his time, you can actually see how focused he is, as he prepares your coffee, right down to art designs he creates by hand. I have seen my cappucino topped off with a Tulip, a heart, or a vine, designed with the foam. Karin will ask if your prefer lungo, which he explained, adds a more richness taste, because it drips out at a slower pace than a normal espresso would, then he does not use just plain milk, or cream, he goes above, and beyond, by using evaporated or condensed milk, to make it even more delicious. Karim will prepare for you any kind of ice cream shake too, and that ice cream is delicious, its gelato, and tastes the same, as it does in Italy. Thank you Karim for preparing my coffee these past 3 weeks, and the boys have loved every ice cream you have made them. If you have children, have them visit the Kids Club, but be sure you ask for Rox. She will show your children such an amazing time because of the way she interacts with them, she loves what she does, and the children notice it. Actually, my 10 year old twin boys, will not go to Kids Club, unless Rox is on duty. Pretty amazing Rox, and thank you, to you too, for making the boys feel truly cared about by you, and the occassional spanish conversations, actually helped the boys brush up on their spanish. In closing, Kudos to Karim and to Rox. I know the El Cid managers, especially, the very nice, and, very friendly, Senor Ivan Bringas, very much appreciates your hard work, as much as he has appreciated having the boys and me, as guests here, so thank you, to you too, Senor Ivan. Our 3 week stay is coming to an end, it is an amazing visit, at an amazing property, run by an amazing team, a team designed by you, a job, very well done. Until next time, JV Sincerement, JV

The vacation fun doesn't stop with deciding which end to put in the toilet. Four out of seven of us got sick from the disgusting food. They only had one restaurant of seven open (that they failed to tell us before hand and they still charged full price). I would have liked they additional options to vomit from. Everything cooked in oil was rancid. The desserts were sweet and flavorless, but at least you won't gain any weight on this trip. Oh did I mention the high pressure time share scam that is the real reason you are there. The average staff member was great. The El Cid front desk and the staff at the doors on the morning of Aug 14th just had to out do the vomiting as the worst part of the trip. They keep you prisoner and won't let you out without some magic exit slip that the front desk failed to provide for the entire family. We almost missed our return flight because they screwed up, but they still won't let you leave with out it. They won't give you the slip without one last sales pitch to have you donate money to the hotel, wtf! Oh, I almost forgot the sewer/rotten fish smell permeating the beach. The hotel is built on a swap, so what.

We booked a trip during spring break that was postponed due to Covid19. We rescheduled for July and spent 11 days. Four travelers - my husband and I and our two teen sons. It was outstanding. The resort is even nicer than on previous trips. We were placed in rooms on the Ventus side of the resort because they were just reopening. The Marina rooms were not opened yet, so all guests were put in Ventus. The Marina side is beautiful, Ventus is even nicer. The resort handled Covid safety well. They followed procedures carefully and we felt comfortable the whole time. The shows were really good (also better than on previous visits). They were all outside and socially distanced. We saw a great fire show, and outdoor large screen movie, and Urban Show (surprised us by being our favorite) and a prehistoric show. They even had an Elvis impersonator who was really great. The best part about this resort is the service... every staff member went above and beyond. The next part was the incredible pools. They now have pools with ocean views that are beyond stunning. The Marina side pool is still open with the jumping rock and fun daily activities. We were really stunned with how well the property has reopened. Everyone we met was having a great trip. For families with children, the kids club was open and active. Staff wore masks but didn't require kids to do so unless at meals. our kids are older and were happy in the pools and evening activities. Special treat - there is a great coffee/dessert shop on the Ventus side that stays open pretty late. evening ice cream visits. We gambled by traveling to Mexico during Covid, but really felt like it paid off for our family. Mexico is taking safety seriously. Note: Cancun bars were closed. Excursions were open on a limited basis. This was all fine for us. There is a dolphin center at the Marina (Delphinus) - we were offered $50 per person and it was fantastic. We added on a few interactions for the kids. It was a steal, but the pictures are crazy expensive afterwards ($40 per picture). Still overall a great deal and we walked over.. it was a five minute walk from the resort. The resort offer kayaks and paddle boards for free. We really enjoyed that. We hope to return. This is our favorite Cancun area resort and it keeps getting better.

We visited this resort for our anniversary last September. Travelled with kids( 2,6,8) and stayed for 7 nights.Originally booked Ventus but after reading all the great reviews switched our booking to Marina el Cid and did not regret. We booked one bedroom suite at Marina( highly recommend if you are travelling with kids) but stayed the whole day on the Ventus side.Their pools were beautiful and quite. If you book Marina but plan to use Ventus facilities I recommend staying in the buildings 11 or 12 closer to Ventus. They are very conveniently located( close to Kids club,Food court and Ventus pools). We were pleasantly surprised when we walked into our room.It was decorated with rose petals and a cold bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries were waiting for us. We had breakfast at the buffet and lunch and dinner at the Mercado de Dolores. The food was fresh and tasty. Not a huge variety but we never had stomach issues ( which is important to us ). Kids club was a hit or miss. Some activities never happened. Our kids stayed there about 2 hours daily. The best part was baking their own cookies and visiting dolphins at the marina. We enjoyed free canoeing. I think we were the only ones who used it during those 7 days. They have canoes, body boards, sailboats for free located at the very end of Ventus. It looks like nobody knows about them. In the afternoon kids( 6 and 8 year old) loved jumping off the cliff. They were scared but only the first 2 times. It is deep.My husband tried it too.Can be fun for kids and adults. We had a great time.I would definitely recommend this resort for families with kids and adults without children. The property is big with many pools to choose from including Adults only pool. It wasn't crowded and we had no problems getting a cabana. The only thing the resort is missing is the nice beach. The water was dark with lots of sea weed. But there is nothing the resort can do.
