Five stars for sure. This place has everything. First, Steve is a knowledgable and caring host. He knows the region and is more than willing to share his knowledge. The rooms are first rate, comfortable and classy. The food is superb. Location, directly across the road from Golden Bay, is exactly what we hoped for. Ratanui Lodge looks good on... More

What can I say? This is an establishment that is run right and run with heart. The hosts Steve and Pete have extensive experience in hospitality and it shows. There are 10 rooms available, each comfortably decorated (feather top mattresses etc) but each slightly different with . The bathrooms are clean and well planned with all the details like good... Just returned from 3 days at the Ratanui Lodge while visiting Able Tasman National Park and the Golden Bay area. I don't usually write a lot of reviews but this Lodge was so good I just had to write one and it was all because of the owner Steve Wakeman. From the minute you arrive, Steve spoils you with amazing... More

This place (and it's restaurant) exceeded all our expectations. The little touches such as real hand towels and not paper, chocolates, handwritten welcome card, linen table-clothes, silver cutlery, printed daily menu all added to the overall experience. Highlights were the wonderful food, fabulous wine list, beautifully appointed rooms and toiletries and Steve's welcome and professional experience. One not to miss... More

We stayed here for two days and had an a absolutely wonderful time. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, Steve (one of the owners) took great care of us. He recommended a great kayak trip with Golden Bay Kayakers (and booked it for us). This saved us a lot of driving time as we had booked... More

The most knowledgeable and helpful Lodge Manager – Steve Wakeman would get it. I will get back to Steve in a moment, but let me first discuss Pohara and the Ratanui Lodge. Pohara is a fabulous place to anchor your stay in the Abel Tasman region. There are great hikes easily accessible from Pohara and it is situated south of... More

The rooms were comfy and clean. And the rooms stayed cool even during hot days. I feel as if I am echoing all of the excellent reviews, but it is a wonderful place. Across the road from the beach, you are within walking distance of two pubs and a small grocery store. And you are very close to the Abel... More

While not the cheapest, this was simply exemplary. The room was superb, the setting a delight and the location just right. The evening meal was top quality and even the hotel dog - Meg- was a cutey.I would love to return as the surroundings are just so great. Steve, one of the owning partners, organised a kayak trip with Golden... More

Our Ratanui experience started the second our group took the final step of our Abel Tasman walk. Having an icy cold beer being placed in your hand is a great way to make a lasting, first impression with your guests. This set the tone for the rest of our visit. Every element of our stay was top notch. The food... More

We stayed during a sunny period in early Feb. Everything was perfect, from the warm and informative welcome as we arrived to the very useful loan of a hose pipe to clean down our car when we departed. We stayed in room 9. Each has slightly different decor, but all are scrupulously clean and well equipped. Bathrooms are spacious with... More
