We had an upstairs King Studio Unit with balcony, and received a very warm welcome from the helpful hostess. Access to the upstairs units was off the balcony, via a staircase with steps that were very narrow, so care was needed, particularly when descending. Parking area was restricted, and some way from upstairs units. Kitchen/Dining/Lounge: There was reasonable storage with... More

We had a lovely stay at this beautiful property last month. The owners are friendly and apartment that we had booked was super comfy. A nice little bedroom, private bath and shower and lots of sun. The living area was big enough for a small family and the kitchenette was well equipped. We did a bit of our own cooking... More

We having been staying at this motel at least six times since the owners moved in. Five years ago.Great hosts and the boat trip is a must to do. Everytime we go to this motel we see the owners continually doing improvements considering what this motel complex was like when they bought it. They are very knowlegable about what there... More

What a lovely comfortable bed! The towels were soft and fluffy. The room was a good size and had a small breakfast bar to eat at. We had added a Continental breakfast (this was delivered the evening before), which consisted of cereal, fruit pots, yogurt, juice, bread to toast, with spreads and eggs to cook - lovely. There was a sliding... More

Very friendly hosts and well presented rooms. It appears there have been some major upgrades since reviews in 2012. Our ground floor room was relatively spacious. Shower has good flow and water can be really hot if you want. Towels were lovely and soft, the bed very comfy. The motel has the added advantage of a laundry and clothes line.... More

This motel is an absolute delight. We arrived to find the heater on in the room and a complimentary breakfast basket in the fridge. The king sized bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. The unit is spacious and welcoming. This is not "high end" - but it is very homely and very comfortable. I... More

Clean comfortable but a little dated. Adequate kitchen, and an old fashioned weak shower with curtain, all the rooms were spacious, but the main bedroom had a small en suite toilet, with the most ridiculously placed sink. The sink dug into your arm whilst sitting! We quite enjoyed our 2 day stay there, having a nice view out the back... More

we stayed here at the bay country motel for a night. it is just outside of pohara and served as a convenient location to explore takaka, the nearby pupu springs, pohara, and totaranui beach. the room is spacious and clean, and we did not have any issues with the bed or bathroom as some previous reviewers have mentioned. because we... My husband and I were disappointed in this motel and will not return. Rundown, dirty, old rooms with a toilet that spewed its contents every time you flushed. Lumpy beds, dirty moldy shower curtains, torn rugs, the list goes on and on. To add insult to injury, they charge extra for everything that should be included in a rented room:... More

My husband and I recently married. We decided to go somewhere sunny and quiet for our honeymoon, we had an excellent and relaxing time in pohara although we did spend most of it in bed :) . Also we took a trip with leigh out on the fishing boat, it was a beautiful day and we caught lots of fish... More
