Detailed Reviews
This was the best place we stayed in Crete!
The guesthouse is located in a very beautiful village, surrounded by impressive mountains and lots of olive trees - very calm and quiet place.
It's a traditional village with some old houses.
The guesthouse rooms are perfectly built with very good materials, which makes a very nice feeling. The rooms are spacious, super clean, have comfortable bed, perfect temperature inside, amazing view from the window and from the terrace just outside of the room.
Owned by a local family - very nice hosts, that can also give you advise of what to do around. They also make delicious Greek food!
The common area, where the taverna is, is very nice and it's a good place to meet other guests.
Highly recommended place to stay, if you look for a village experience, nature, tranquility, excellent food and convenient room. Good hiking options all around the village.
Fair prices for accommodation and food - great value for money.
We hope to go there again !

A great place with just the mountains and the silence surrounding you. The rooms are clean, comfortable and traditional with a terrace to each one of them. We loved everything with this place and the lovely host couple is always there to provide food, knowledge about the area and company. This place is like food for the soul!

Getting back to the basics of relaxation, discovering nature and eating great food.
Loved my simple guesthouse. Private and roomy. Very clean. Had my own private tiny patio. At the main building people gathered to chat, access WiFi and eat. Food was exceptional - fresh Greek salad with mixture cheese, freshly made fava, some of the best boureki I’ve ever had, lamb from the oven, baked eggplant, plus wine & beer. Even the breakfast menu was fabulous to include Sfakion pie and local honey and the finishing touch was the Greek coffee.
The hosts were friendly and always available. Greeted with a friendly smile.

Absolutely beautiful guesthouse with gorgeous Mountain View. The room was very comfortable and clean. The food at their taverna was fantastic! Such a relaxing atmosphere. Alonia was the best guesthouse we stayed in while in Crete. I could spend a week here!

Alonia is one of the best places to be in southern Chania. There are many hiking trails to explore, starting right from the guest house. The owners, Anna & Antonis, are very friendly & interesting, and Anna's cooking is delicious! Highly recommended!

We stayed here for 1 night in one of the cabin style bungalows while on a Trekking Hellas hiking tour . It is built with a rustic appearance. There was a queen bed and a single bed. A slow combustion stove would keep you warm in cold weather. The bathroom was perfectly clean. The shower is not separated from the rest of the bathroom as is the way generally in these rural areas. However as the bathroom is large this does not present a problem. There is an outdoor patio with 2 chairs and a table. A vine is starting to grow over a trellis over this patio.
There is an indoor and an outdoor eating area. Our evening meal cooked by the wife of the couple who own this lovely place, was authentic Greek and absolutely delicious. Her husband and all the staff could not be more friendly. Enough English is spoken for good communication.
WiFi is fee in the eating areas.
This guesthouse is situated in Agios
Ioannis village (in the White Mountains) which only has 12 permanent residents now and is very quiet and peaceful.
There is a very nice walk/hike to Mt. Papakefala which starts from nearby and takes about 2 hours return . There is a good view of the coast including Agio Roumeli from the end point. The trail is well marked by blue/white signs and then red/yellow ones when the trial splits(one way to Papakefala, the other to a cave).
In summary this is a perfect, quiet, authentic place to stay and eat.

Going to Agios Ioannis and staying in Alonia is an adventure for people who want to have the silence of nature and the kick of having some good hikes. Alonia is a very relaxing place were you can enjoy good compagny of people feeling just like you, wanting to be one with nature.
The place is very nice and the rooms are spacious. The homemade food is a must, we always have dinner in Alonia. The hosts Anna and Antonis are always there to help when you have any questions. Antonis can help you finding a hike that suites you best.

Great place in a great location if you like the outdoors or hiking. Within a couple of hours you get to enjoy stunning views of the Libyan Sea from the South of Crete. The owners are very laid back and friendly, the meals they prepare in the evening are traditional hearty meals that suit the cold temperatures in winter. The water in the shower is always hot. There is no central heating but a wooden stove that needs to be replenished with wood every now and then but it keeps the place very warm. Rooms are simple but very tidy. This is the place to go if you want to enjoy the surroundings...we did three four hour walks in three days, trails were near but quite different. My nine year old daughter was leading our walks and she didn't complain but once. We were told that there are shorter walks but we didn't try them this time. I totally recommend this place.
