Detailed Reviews
The orange bird was overdue by a mercy mile. We landed into nothing. Getting out of the airport was easy. Stamp "go".
We switch a fistful of reds for the car. No questions no answers needed. The nite life on the street into the city was single story Greece. But we had been wasted by the day. No prisoners taken. Tense.
The next morning we stayed in the big H. Big mistake. Our heads were still in yesterday.
The road took us out of the city west. The sun was big and hungry. It was a tight 3 hrs but I kept it together. The last stretch over cool green and darkening mountains. Road attached like barnacles to the rocky sides. Switchbacks to the sky and back.
Out of the darkness came the light of the harbour village. Tavernas and little cretan stores. We parked up by the bakery and carried the bags 40yds to the concierge.
"Sit"²
"Leave the bags"
"Have a complimentary drink"
The bags disappeared like the ź chilled beers we slugged by the harbour water.
The place was great. The room was like built tomorrow. The pace was somewhere else and the food was fresh from wherever. Even the TV had a zillion channels.
Big mistake
I arrived late.
1left early.
Dont be like me.

Easily the most wonderful place to stay in Chora Sfakion. We spent the 4 weeks of April in this charming, unpretentious and beautiful hotel, run by the most hospitable owners, who were constantly helpful and generous with their attention to our every need and expert advice on the whole area. We felt part of their family within a short time. The hotel rooms are spotless and kept that way, and every room opens to a balcony looking over the sea. Each night one is lulled to sleep with the sound of the waves on the shore and by day, there are endless places of historical interest and extreme beauty to enjoy. We swam every day in the pristine sea, either at the beach right there or one nearby. The hotel also has a taverna which serves delicious food from breakfast to dinner. We cannot recommend this place highly enough and were very sad to leave.

We stayed for a week in this lovely hotel. The room was spacious, light, airy and spotlessly clean and we loved hearing the sound of the sea at night. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It made an excellent base for a week of walking gorges and exploring the coast. We ate in their restaurant several times and the food was delicious.

+1
First of all, we booked our room from hotels and it said we were getting tge suite which was a bit bigger, but when we got there we were told that all room sizes are the same basically. So if you are planning to book here, book the cheapest option you get.
If you are going by car and you will put in the GPS Livikon by the sea as we did, you will not get any results. Better write: from Samaria to Livikon. It will take you there to Chora Sfakion. When you get there there is no entrance directly to the hotel because it's on the beach in front of restaurants only for pedestrians. You should park at the Square and the guy from the reception will give you a card so you can have free parking or else they have one or two spots you can park behind the hotel if they are available. Every room is Sea view, the beds are comfortable, the shower has good pressure and it's big enough. Not big, but big enough. There is shower gel in shower and a small fridge in the main area.
We had an issue with the air condition but they immediately took care of it and changed our room. It was good that we had air-condition in both rooms since we were three people (other places in Crete have only one air condition for the bedroom and main area of the apartment).
There is no elevator to the rooms.
The rooms are located above some restaurants, patisserie, mini market, so we had everything we needed on our feet.
We were treated with refreshments upon arrival which was nice of the lovely lady at the reception.
There is a boat nearby (booked with Deligiannis boats-you pay on the boat) that took us to Loutro which I looooved!
I said that next time I would book at least a night to stay at Loutro and enjoy the calmness it offers!
In general I would book Livikon again!

Great location, just a few hundred feet from their free parking; and a short walk to the dock for the ferries and water taxies.
Our room was clean and comfortable, with a view of the water. It had a comfortable bed with nice linens, and a well organized bath.
Breakfast was very good, and it was served quickly each morning.
What made this hotel special was staff. From the welcome drink when we arrived, to the coffee to go when we left, they not only accommodated every need, but anticipated them and had a suggestion for everything we wanted or needed.
We had dinner in the restaurant the first night and it was so good we ate there all three nights.
We only stayed three nights. Johnnie #1, his trusted assistant, Johnnie #2, “Coffee Man” and the rest of the staff made us feel so comfortable we could have stayed for three weeks.

Room with a great view! I stayed here one night on the way between Chania and Loutro. The location (chora sfakion) probably doesn't need much more than one night (similar/queter places await a ferry-ride away) but it's a good stopover point. The room made me feel like I'd really arrived at the seaside and that Greece awaited!
Due to staying at the hotel, I deliberately chose to eat elsewhere (spread the spend), and so cannot comment on the food. However the welcome of the staff and the service were both really positive and I wuold recommend.
Visitors to be aware that the front room balconies overlook the restaurant terrace so there is naturally noise whilst people are eating. Nothing unpleasant, and will be the same in all other hotels in the town.

I would say the hotel is very good value for the money. It is not a luxurious hotel but if you're looking for luxury resort style hotels then Chora Sfakion is probably not the town for you. The hotel rooms are updated and have a modern washroom. The rooms are simple, bright and clean. The balcony has the best views of the water. The breakfast was very good - the best Greek yogurt I've ever had! We enjoyed our stay and Chora Sfakia is a great base for hiking. We hiked to Loutros and also hiked the bottom part of the Samaria Gorge (we took a ferry from Chora Sfakia to Agia Roumeli). It was all very convenient and fun. I would recommend that the hotel install safes in the rooms for people to store their valuables. I think that's pretty standard in hotel rooms in Europe these days.

What an amazing family run hotel !!! We arrived early after a breathtaking drive from Chania, so we found a table and took some lunch. We could not believe the views from our table overlooking the turquoise Libyan Sea. The menu was excellent with something for everyone, fresh fish, lots of home cooked local dishes as well as a good selection of meat dishes. After a superb lunch we checked in and were happy that our rooms were ready early. The owner, Manolis offered us all a coffee on the house. So kind.
Our rooms were on the second floor and gave us even better views, everything was spotlessly clean. We could not believe how good value this hotel is considering location and the quality.
After a perfect nights sleep we walked to the end of the harbour and got a water taxi to Marmara via Notusmare.com where we swam into the caves, highly recommended.
We only stayed for two nights but next time we will stay longer, we were sad to leave but again we were given a coffee on the house before departing.
I would advise that you book direct on their website and get a discount, it makes the value even better.

We just spent 3 days and 2 nights at this wonderful hotel managed by Giannis "Yannis" Magelakis and his extended family including his lovely wife Maria and their 2 children. As soon as we arrived, Maria greeted us warmly at the reception and Yannis offered us a cold local beer as we sat down to check-in. The hotel and restaurant are quite modern in what is a very traditional Cretan town like Sfakia. The hotel and restaurant occupy a large part of the main street which overlooks the ocean. Their restaurant is cozy chic, a great place to grab a drink and a wonderful meal. The two nights we were there, we ate at their restaurant as their menu was extensive compared to the traditional taverna menu we found on the "strip". The Chef and his team did a wonderful job. Our room was big and very clean with a modern bathroom (the toilet and the shower are separate which is a bonus). We strongly recommend that if you are in Sfakia, you try out this wonderful hotel and restaurant. You won't be disappointed. We will definitely be back!

Very nice hotel with a good restaurant in the heart of Sfakia. The stuff is friendly and some of them are active and willing to say a few words, which is nice. Hotel is recently renovated and it was pretty and quiet. There is a restaurant downstairs, but if you close the balcony door it is quiet. There is a daily room cleaning and it is really clean and fresh.
Balcony has got a nice view to the ocean and you can hear the waves. I also ate at the hotel restaurant and the food, service was great.
