I visited Karma for the first time over three nights and I was pleasantly surprised from the time I made my booking. When people write that they feel the host, Vera, is like their grandmother they are not joking. Vera is very friendly and polite. She phoned back immediately after I couldn't get through to her and makes every effort... More

Was recommended by another hostel owner and was not disappointed. Very homely place to stay for a few nights or longer, good location to the mountains, friendly owners and general nice vibe! The only downside was leaving! You must try the jams..... ...and Ethiopian restaurant....

Definetely one of the best places I have ever been to. I felt at home and had great conversation with the owners. I would come back just to spend a few more days there (and take another look at those beautiful mountains). Still miss those jams.

We had a great hike with Zee, ask for her guidance during your hike to Amphitheater and Sentinel Peak!!! Top top top. Only minus: coupons for internet (100MB) run out very fast but who needs... My girlfriend and I visited in October and we loved our stay with Vera-Ann. From the moment we arrived it was our home too, and when I felt under the weather Vera-Ann was exceptionally friendly. We spent 3 nights at Karma, as we also wanted to visit Lesotho from there. Zee is a friend of Vera-Ann, and she gave us... More

Our family spent two nights at Karma Backpackers as a base for hiking in the northern Drakensberg. It was like having a home away from home at Karma! The kitchen for self-catering is exceptionally well supplied (as the homeowners use it too). The rooms were comfortable and cheerily decorated. Vera's guidance was great, with maps to the hiking trails and... More

We stayed there for 2 nights and were really happy because of the house and price. The house was just beautiful, in a small, quiet town. The host greeting us with a tee and offered some peaches just form the tree. The room was big and comfy. We could sit in a garden as long as we wished. It was... More

Such a peaceful and nice place to stay. You have a beautiful garden where you are also allowed to pick fruit and vegetables for free. There is coffee marmalade for free and you may sit outside in the garden, relax and having your breakfast. They also offer the best maps of the region with every hike in it. Didn't even find... More

We stayed with Vera for three nights on our way from Durban to Joburg and Karma was a welcome small town haven for a few days away from the city. We felt like we were staying with family (the ones you like). Vera could not have been more welcoming, the property is lovely, the beds are comfortable, the bathroom is... More
