A perfect combination of a boutique spa hotel and a warm guesthouse. What a way to relax after a week of hikes! The breakfast that Hrefna made with love was a relaxing way to start the day; we invited her to join us and we had a lovely conversation. The shower and bath were amazing, by far the best on our trip, with different kinds of soap and other accessories. It was great to have a hot tub with a view of mountains covered with snow. And if you stay for more than one night, you might even discover that your bed has been made and your towels changed. But above all, the house is filled with love and hospitality.

Having recently gotten a puppy my wife and i were a little scared leaving her with a sitter for the weekend and we stumbled upon Ásar Guesthouse and what a find! Before arriving we recieved a message asking us when we estimated arriving to the guesthouse. Even with our little pup we got slightly delayed and it was no problem. When we arrived we were greeted with a smile, hearty welcome and a beautiful country guesthouse with a great big green area where our pup could play with the dog of the house. We were offered to use the hot tub but since we were going out for the night we had to refuse. The hotel supplied us with towels, bathrobes and they catered to all of our needs. We had the guesthouse to ourselves ans so the shared bathroom was ours. Before leaving us to unpack and let the pup settle a bit we were asked when we wanted breakfast. The area was quiet and we got good sleep although we had a fly bothering us in the morning and a running toilet so we had some water sounds happening. Once morning rolled by we went for breakfast and we had fantastic freshly baked bread, cheeses and home made jams. We had a lovely chat with the owners while eating breakfast and then parted ways. We will surely come again to the luxurious romantic little getaway and recommend other couples with or without pets to do the same.

I arrived at Asar Gesthouse late one evening with two seven year old girls and the family dog, all tired after a day on the ring road. The warm welcome we received and outstanding hospitality exceeded all our expectations. My young traveling partners said "it was the best and most beautiful hotel in the world". We all wished we could stay another night.

I stayed at Asar guesthouse with my wife for a couple of days in early July. I have stayed at big hotels around the world, but in recent years I tend to choose smaller places where it is possible to talk to the locals and learn something about the people and the places. Asar is a good place to stay, located in the beautiful countryside of Eyjafjordur - close to Akureyri. The host - her name is Hrefna - has really built up a friendly guesthouse, with all the amenities that you would expect - e.g. excellent beds - but in addition her guests enjoy Icelandic country hospitality. Her breakfast is something to remember, Hrefna goes the extra mile with her home-made jams, her home baked bread of different types and her own delicious muesli recipe.

One of the best guesthouses I've stayed at. I wish I could spend at least 2 more nights. Everything was simply perfect, from the moment we entered the property. We were warmly greeted with coffee and chocolates, then offered to go to the hot tub, and the landlord even brought us a drink there. We enjoyed an amazing view from there. The room was quiet and comfy enough for a perfect sleep. Breakfast also shows how much the owners love having people: only fresh products, most of them homemade (even the bread). I definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a warm Icelandic experience. Maxime & Aya

I had my dream vacation at Asar Guesthouse. The relaxing, country atmosphere, great food and kind hosts allowed me to finish my book in peace and even start outlining another one! This is absolutely the perfect place to stay for anyone wanting to feel at home and let their worries melt away. I will definitely stay here again.
