Throughout our almost 2 weeks in Tanzania, we stayed at a few tented camps, and out of all of them, Chaka is the one that we remember most fondly and seem to always talk about. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the staff and provided an introduction to the camp. I thought it was Elliot who introduced us, but when I was reading other reviews, the name mentioned was Elias…I apologize for not remembering! He was absolutely wonderful, telling us about the camp and showing us the lounge and dining area. We found him to be quite reserved at first, however by breakfast the next morning he was chit chatting with us and was always smiling and ready to engage in conversation. It was such a pleasure to have been served by him and another lovely gentleman during our meals. Max, who would be looking after our tent for the 3 nights, showed us to our tent, which was simple but beautiful. Huge bed, desk in the corner which I used each night to write in my journal; bathroom was with double sink and the oh so talked about bucket shower which we wanted to experience. I cannot speak highly enough of Max. He was such a lovely individual, quiet but we enjoyed getting to know him on our walks to and from the tent. He was always the first face we saw in the morning, and the last before going to bed. He was always around, even though we couldn’t see him, and it’s almost as if he knew what we wanted before we did, and before we even asked. Our tents were always made up beautifully, how he did it so quickly we’ll never know! During the time we ate breakfast and headed back to the tent, it was cleaned up, bed made, garbage bins empty…my goodness! At night, hot water bottles in the beds made for a cozy sleep, even though it was chilly at night. After every game drive, we were greeted by the entire staff, asking how our day was. The food, oh my…I know many others have commented, but I enjoyed the food most out of our entire trip at Chaka. One day we had spicy chicken with rice which was packed for us, and to this day I still reminisce about that meal. The bucket showers…are different…it does take a bit of getting used to, but it was a fun experience! One thing to note though, there is no hot water coming from the taps, just cold, which was an adjustment when washing your face in the already cold morning, but you wake up that much quicker! I could go on and on about Chaka and how much we loved it, but I’ll leave it at this. The staff at Chaka…I cried when we left. They all came out singing and dancing, waving us off with such huge smiles on their faces. We took pictures with them and I often look back and I always say to my husband that the pictures we took at Chaka with the staff are so genuine and authentic. We miss the staff at Chaka. Obviously there are so many more that I’m not mentioning as these are the ones we interacted with the most, from Elliot and the young gentleman who worked with Elliot during meals; to the manager who always came by to ask how our day was, and Max, wonderful Max with his red day shoes (for walking) and his evening shoes because according to Max, you can’t wear your day shoes in the evening lol Asante Sana to ALL the staff at Chaka, the ones we spent time with and the ones working behind the scenes to make everything so seamless. If we visit this area of the Serengeti again, Chaka Camp would definitely be our top choice to stay, even if just to say hello to the wonderful staff.

Property's Favorite Review
Chaka Camp was in its southern location in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This is where the migration was with herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope as far as you can see. Our tent had gorgeous views over Lake Ndutu. The beds are so comfortable and the linens and towels high quality. The décor is African with beautiful textiles from the region and handicrafts made in Arusha. You can tell a woman designed these tents with nice toiletries, double sinks with their own lights and ample closet space. Elias and Max were wonderful hosts during our stay. Chaka Camps are environmentally conscious and sustainable. Water comes in thermoses to reduce plastic. The toiletries are from Zanzibar in reusable metal containers. The camp is powered by solar panels. When switching camps you’re provided with a packed lunch and all the single-use containers and cutlery are compostable. The food is wonderful at camp. I had the fluffiest scrambled eggs every morning for breakfast. We could not get over how fresh and tasty the fruit and produce is in Tanzania. Simba, the Chef, is great and we really enjoyed all of our meals in camp and on the road. You are not going to go hungry at Chaka Camp! There is a full bar and we enjoyed sundowners around the campfire. I also recommend a Walking Safari. I spent a wonderful morning walking through the conservation area with a Maasai ranger who showed me all these little things I wouldn’t have noticed from upside nests to hippo footprints.

One of the best safari experiences I reckon. I wanted to end the year watching the wildebeest and in the plains, and got exactly what I wished for. Chaka camp is an all inclusive (except alcohol which isn’t too pricey) camp and you will get a private guide. I went on a solo trip and I was expecting that I had to share a guide but I had my own!! My guide Godson has a way of finding all the lions! We were able to see male lions which are much more difficult to see! Lots of lions, some amazing leopards and just the best time. Stacy, who runs Chaka camp, made it all happen. She was able to help me arrange everything properly, give me great and amazing ideas on what to do, and advise me on the most cost effective methods. I was denied my flight to Tanzania but I was able to speak to Stacy who recommended perhaps going by Kenya. I was able to enter Tanzania with ease. She also made sure I was connected with the staff to get the Covid testing I needed to return to Kenya and continue my trip. All in all, one of the best experiences I could imagine, with the best crew. Service here is impeccable! Especially coming back to my tent and having a nice heated bottle to keep my bed warm after dinner!!! 1000% recommended and I will definitely come back!

Love the location, good service, nice staff and very comfortable tents. It has a beautiful view from the dinning area, you can appreciate the infinite savanah and grasslands of Serengeti. Lots of wildlife around and specially at night can hear the lions and hyenas. I highly recommend it.

Very good and big accommodation. Food was very good, staff very helpful and welcoming. One night, a mouse came ahah and the staff made her leave very quickly. We felt like at home. Eyes got tears when leaving the place. We had a very good stay!!
