Travelers' Choice 2019 Winner
Certificate of Excellence
Home of the Grizzly Bears! The historic Tweedsmuir Park Lodge, set on 60 acres of private land within the vast wilderness of British Columbia's largest protected park, is the ideal setting for your wilderness adventures. Originally built in 1929 as a hunting and fishing resort, today the lodge accommodates those seeking out a more eco-friendly adventure as well as a relaxing refuge from the pressures of modern life. The surrounding environment is stunning. Rising above the valley floor are the majestic Coast Mountains, to the west is the largest fjord system in the Americas, and to the east the high Chilcotin Plateau. It is a bio-diverse and spectacular wilderness, home to the totemic wildlife of the Great Bear Rainforest. Nestled in the largest protected park in British Columbia, the Lodge is only an hour flight from Vancouver. Consistent winners of TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence and the Traveller's Choice award as part of their Top 25 Small Hotels (Canada), guests stay in private timber chalets on property bordering the Atnarko and Bella Coola Rivers. Thanks to healthy fish stocks, the Lodge is situated amongst one of the world's largest Grizzly Bear populations. The Canadian Tourism Commission has included Tweedsmuir Park Lodge's Grizzly Bear Safaris in their prestigious 'Signature Experiences Collection'. Participants enjoy the tours due to the small group size (maximum of four people) and the absence of man-made fishing channels. All river travel is on non-motorized drift boats, giving participants a more natural experience. In addition to Grizzly Bear Viewing guests can also enjoy; horseback riding, climbing a via ferrata, e-biking, heli-fishing, heli-hiking, fly-fishing, Guided Nature Hikes, photography, First Nations culture, excursions on the inlets or even summer heli-skiing! Relax by the fireplace, enjoy a new spa and a massage, soak in the outdoor hot-tub, or simply retire to the lodge deck for drinks. Definitely keep your eyes open for local wildlife, including grizzly bears, which may lumber past on the lawn. This trip far exceeded my expectations! The dining was first rate, and the staff was happy to accommodate the pickiest instructions! And there was always plenty to do. But even hanging around in the lounge by the fire was delightful.

We recently stayed at Tweedsmuir Park Lodge for a 3 night/4 day Grizzly Bear viewing trip. The area is absolutely stunning (looking at our pictures, our son said it looked like a combination of Yosemite Valley and the Swiss Alps!), and the Lodge is beautifully sited. Our cabin was wonderful and out on the edge of the line of cabins, so we were able to see Grizzlies right outside our windows (and the staff was very helpful about helping us navigate in / out of our cabin safely if bears were present). Everything was wonderful from airport transfers, food and beverage, service, guides, and comfort. Imagine sitting in a lovely hot tub after an am river drift and afternoon hike, with a glass of wine, watching Grizzly Bears out on the lawn. Surreal and sublime.

You couldn’t ask for more. The staff took care of everything. They even offered to was our truck after going over Heckman Pass. The guides were knowledgable and experienced. The food was excellent also.

Loved every minute! Everything was first class. The chef-prepared meals were delicious. The river float was beautiful and relaxing (the guide did most of the work). The bears were interesting and fun to watch. The nature walk through a cedar forest was invigorating and educational. Hope to do it again.

The facilities are great...the staff superb. We had a great time and hope to return again next year. Getting there is the challenge. Pacific Coastal Airline is both overpriced and difficult. Once you arrive the Tweedsmuir more than makes up for the hassel. You will love it. Highly recommend
