    Not for us
As we have stayed in Holiday Inns before and have always been happy I’m afraid to say this hotel didn’t live up to our expectations. We did receive a nice welcome from the lady on reception and the lobby area is nice, however our room was disappointing and very dark and dingy. The air con didn’t work (and no one ever came to fix it) nor did our telephone. It did seem clean just very old and the bed felt very unstable and would squeak every time you turned over - we were quite relieved we only had to stay for one night. We wanted to use the pool but currently at the moment they are restricted to only allowing 4 people in at a time so you have to be lucky or book in advance. The breakfast was good and staff there were friendly. The terrace area is completely full of cobwebs which made sitting out there very uncomfortable and wondered why no one had given it a sweep around?! On check out the receptionist barely looked at us and didn’t ask how our stay was and with that we were very glad to leave and never return.
Hi Porter44, I am glad you left feedback. I appreciate you choosing to stay at our Holiday Inn Luton - South M1, Jct.9! While we strive to provide a combined sense of comfort and happiness to all our guests, but I read that there were hiccups that made this less of being one. I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you had during your recent stay with us, particularly the dark room, the lack of cleanliness, and the faulty air conditioning and phone. While we strive to give exceptional service, I am concerned that the unsteady bed and restricted number of people allowed to use the pool made you feel uncomfortable. I have shared your comments with hotel management, who responded with genuine concern for the impact this had on your stay. I know they appreciate you sharing your experience and am confident they will take steps so this doesn’t happen again. Thank you for your kind remarks about our hotel staff. I'm pleased you enjoyed our breakfast as well. It will be a joy to welcome you back. Cheers, June A. Case Manager IHGService

    Warm welcome
Firstly I’ll say on the whole, the staff here were wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating, more often than not going above and beyond in these difficult times. A shame that the spa facilities were closed, considering most gyms with jacuzzi etc are open and letting people use them. Only the pool was open which I suppose was better than nothing. Gym facilities excellent for a hotel. Downstairs decor nice and fresh, however the rooms and upstairs are severely dated and in desperate need of updating. Now onto the not so great parts - room had a shower that sprayed water in every direction but down, the toilet seat kept sliding off the toilet and none of the lamps worked. Dark and dingy is an understatement. Breakfast was hit and miss. You have to pre order on a form the night before. Sometimes you get what you asked for, sometimes items are forgotten or missed off, no choice of eggs (fried only). We found the best option was to opt for the sit in full English which is very good, any other option came with a side serving of disappointment. I would have given this an average rating, but the staff bumped it up to a better rating!

    Good option for Luton parking
We stayed here because it had parking included for Luton Airport & we could leave car & take keys with us. There was plenty of parking & the room was compact but fine for an overnight stay. Hotel was nice & quiet & the bed comfortable. The Reception staff were friendly & welcoming & booked our taxi (included in price) for early the following morning. We ate in the restaurant which was fine & again the staff were good. The only downside was that we had booked taxi for 5am & it didn't arrive until 5.15! This was obviously a bit stressful as had a flight to catch. The driver said that he had only just had the job come through even though it had been prebooked. If we stay again we would book taxi for earlier than we needed. On our return we have to pay for taxi & were told you just turn left out of airport & Addison Lee taxis were right there. This was not the case- we followed signs for taxi - no sign of AL so just got a Hackney cab. This cost £26 but hotel had said it was £20 so someone is wrong! Also be aware that these cabs charge extra for cards (not sure that's allowed now?) but if you pay cash they don't have change?!! All in all the hotel stay was good & worked well but needs to be more accurate info about taxis.

Nothing to really complain about. Staff were all really helpful. Room was clean and tidy and provided the basic needs. This hotel is more of a place to stay before flying as there isn’t much to do nearby. The only downside was missing breakfast as my flight was really early. Would of been a good idea to have a breakfast bar or some fruit the early travers could take.

This hotel is an asylum hotel..large numbers of young men loitering around the complex..No mention of this when booking .We will seeking a refund from this hotel. Not what i expected having paid a fair amount for business.Avoid this place if you are not getting a discount .The name hotel is very misleading.Holding centre more like which is fine.Just do not charge hotel rates.!!!!!!

The main hotel is currently closed for general access but quite busy with young men playing football amongst the cars in the car park, not good if you have a nice car When I asked them to stop I was suddenly looking at 7/8 hostile faces ,so I moved to the main reception area Going into the gym I found an empty reception and waited 15 mins for a member of staff to finally appear from a cupboard eating his dinner I enquired about joining the gym and was given a tour and quoted a reasonable £45 per month The fitness room had old machines with broken handles taped up with electrical tape and there were used wipes and tissues on the floor The main gym was unbelievably hot and very smelly from the sewage plant opposite, and no ventilation I was told the Aircon was broken and not likely to be fixed soon The equipment was ok but limited, the pool was like a sauna and a bit cloudy The toilets and shower room were disgusting with urine and water all over the floor and the wc heavily soiled Club towels laying in the mess beneath the urinals I thanked him for the tour and said I would not be joining and he politely laughed and said he’d heard it all before Unbelievable

Hello 602philg Thank you for your review following your recent visit to the Affinity health club. I have passed the details to the management company for the club for immediate action. We are in the process of gaining quotes for the repair of the aircon in the main gym, however as I am sure you can appreciate all air conditioning companies currently have a back log. We have recently had several personnel changes in the club and I confident that the cleanliness issues you encountered have all been rectified. I fully appreciate that you have a choice in leisure club membership, and i hope that you will give Affinity leisure a second opportunity in the future. Yours sincerely Chris Brand General manager

Just like to thank IHG hotels and Bookings.com for taking my reservation 3 days ago and now cancelling it, telling me it’s closing on 14th March 2022. Presume this was only decided today…. Our stay was due on 15th March 22 ready for an early morning flight. I am now faced, at this late stage, paying at least double for a replacement hotel. ( all other seem to have inflated their prices on this news). Knowing a lot of people will be looking for alternative accommodation. Why IHG hotels could not move us to one of their other hotels in the area is beyond my mental capacity….! NEVER AGAIN IHG. Was a member of your loyalty program. Thank you and Goodbye.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night on a inclusive coach trip. This is below holiday inn usual standard. We arrived at around 19:00 to the hotel and the front entrance was extremely busy with guests of a vibe event that was currently going on in the hotel. We got to our room to drop bags before we went for something to eat rooms are very basic out dated, tired and look a-bit scruffy looks can be deceiving from the modern reception and bar area on arriving. Carpets on the hallways need updating as well these appear very worn. After going to our room we went for something to eat in the restaurant area service was extremely slow. Staff seem very young and under trained we only ordered some starters as we wasn’t that hungry food wasn’t of a good quality I ordered chicken wings took one bite into them and literally I thought they had taken them out of the fridge and put them on the plate. I advised the waitress who changed these for me but the second lot come out exactly the same these were pre cooked and reheated but the top layer was hot but when bitten into had no heat at all. Food quality was not the best. When we went back to our room it was like party central in the the hotel you would have thought that we was on a night out we were in a room on the ground floor this event was running from 8pm till 2am with non stop music and you could hear it all on bottom floor including booming in your room not only that the walls are paper thin so you can hear everything in the adjoining rooms plus the music we did not sleep well at all especially having a long day travelling and then coming to the hotel. I went to reception to see if there is any other rooms available maybe away from the event to try and get some rest but the reception staff really couldn’t be more unprofessional as not a guest of the party group and just staying in the hotel was advised that there are no additional rooms and that it is the hotel managers fault we are in this situation he has allocated the rooms and that it’s his fault that there are 2 events on such as the coach tours coming in and this JIVE event and would just need to contact him which didn’t help that evening. Before going back to the room went to the bar to get a drink talk about slow if they went any slower they would have stopped and had no customer service skills what so ever the guy behind the bar didn’t care how slow he was going and it was like queuing in a bar in a night club queuing with part people around out the front of the hotel was like a night on the town. Breakfast was ok standard chain hotel breakfast I think holiday inn need to re think this hotel the service was shocking the comfort and night sleep was appalling food Wetherspoons would have done better and staff undertrained and unprofessional I would not recommend this hotel and will of course to be in touch with the tour operator to advise

Dear Jamie D Thank you for your review following your recent stay. I am sincerely sorry for the disturbance from the event being held in our event room. Although the hotel was fully booked, we did have options to work with the event organisers to reduce noise levels, I am sincerely sorry that this was not the case and I will ensure this is discussed with the team member to ensure learning is taken forward. I have spoken at length with my head chef in regards to your food quality. it is totally unacceptable that the food was served to you below standard not once but twice. He has assured me that he will resolve this issue and ensure his team receive extra training. I would like to thank you for bringing these issues to my attention so I can ensure they are rectified for our future guests. I do hope that you will return in the future to witness the changes for yourself. Yours sincerely Chris Brand General Manager

Well where to start, as others have stated when first walking in it looks lovely, clean and modern. However as soon as you leave reception and head towards your room things instantly start to look grim from the old cruise ship halls to the broken window in the ceiling on the top of the stairs that was letting rain water in. Got to our room that had stains all over the carpet, a broken trouser press (I touched it and it fall down instantly as it wasn't even secured properly), the main bed was hard and the sofa bed was even worse, 2 showers in the bathroom as one had broken and they didn't want to fix it.. The working shower was attached 2 inches above the bath so had to hold the shower head at all times.. and to top it off the heater didn't work either although I did get that replaced at 1am as I was so cold I couldn't sleep, and that's not everything there's way too much to list. So now going on to food. When you see an all you can eat buffet you don't expect to leave still hungry. All that was on offer was 3 curry's (2 vegetarian 1 lamb) served with rice, they didn't look nice so I avoided them (I was told its a good job I did by other members of my group), next up some dry hard cold chicken, some little diced potatoes also cold, then chicken nuggets that where solid and hard, I had to cover them in gravy to soften them?? Was it gravy? I've never tasted gravy like that. Bit spicy for gravy, and some fish fingers and chips they was also all covered in dry parsley? .. In the end all I ate was 3 chicken nuggets and a few chips with some kind of sauce I thought was gravy. Not worth the £17.95 per head as advertised. The bar on the evening had a very dull atmosphere, although the barmaid was friendly if she was even around to serve you, had a heart attack at the price of a drink rho and no shops close by if you don't have car. Breakfast was a little bit better but I would still avoid the hot all you can eat and just opt for continental. My son was so happy they had his favourite of sausage, egg, hash brown and beans he couldn't eat it and my child never doesn't eat them items, my mum also got a cooked and couldn't eat it so got a fruit salad which was nice. I only got 2 sausages from the cooked side and made myself a sandwich with some nice crusty bread the sausages was cold but I was so hungry from night before I didn't care, plenty of juices and fruits, croissants, cereal, tea and coffee. To be fair I think the breakfast was the highlight of the stay. Because of this I think that the buffet the night before has been sat there for just too many hours as they must of expected us to all get off the coach and pile to the food rather then our rooms for a rest for a bit, food should never be kept under those heating lamps for more than 2 hours after that time all food should be discarded off and replaced with fresh. PLEASE ENSURE STAFF ARE DOING CORRECT TEMPERATURE CHECKS ON FOOD

Hello HeatherlU7823CC. Thank you for your review following your recent stay. I am sincerely sorry for the issues you encountered and that we did not provide an excellent stay on this occasion. Unfortunately the day prior to your stay we lost a roof hatch in storm Eunice and due to the continued strong winds it was unsafe for my maintenance team to go onto the roof for a number of days to replace this. I am sorry that the shower in your room did not work and I have asked the team to resolve this, the secondary unit is provided for guests to use whilst in the bath. I am sincerely sorry for the experience you had in our restaurant, we normally do not operate a buffet in the evening and will investigate why the quality of this was not up to standard. I have shared your comments with all of the team to ensure we improve in all the areas you have highlighted. I do hope that you will return again in the future so we can have the opportunity to restore your faith in the Holiday Inn Luton South. Yours sincerely Chris Brand General manager

We stayed here as it was close to the wedding we were attending, also convenient for Luton airport 15 mins. They have a small dining area so we opted to eat, breakfast, at the harvester located within the grounds. Friendly staff. We ordered a cab from the phone located in the reception, they charge you from their base and not your location SO expect to have your fare loaded before your journey, ours was 5 mins up the road and were charged £15 (London cabs are cheaper).

Nasty nasty accommodation. Bugs, flies, camp bed looking rubbish for most of it. Opt for king bed rooms only if going there as they seem newer. ONLY thing going for it is the EXCELLENT staff who recognise issues and try to make the best out of it. I am able to evidence the presence of crawling bugs if asked and note these were only after we had already killed a few before. Food and beverage also very good and location is decent. The TV and amenities also not as advertised and not very good but honestly I live locally and all I wanted was to have a relaxing break in a room to sleep and rest. If they sort the accommodation then decent value for money and as I said really good staff. Special thanks to Fego, Kari, Nahim and Thomas and all the food and beverage staff for making the stay bearable. My daughter loved your burgers!! The only reason I am not giving a one star for everything is because the staff did help try and make the stay better so thank you to them Finally, I tried putting a review on IHG website but they keep blocking it saying my review must not contain the words bugs and flies and I cannot upload my photos. Please beware!
