The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Puerto Rico enchants many guests with its jungle-like setting and serene balconies, yet some find the room quality inconsistent. While the cleanliness and attentive service frequently receive commendations, issues such as food quality and activity variety have been noted. Guests often enjoy the spacious rooms and beautiful beach location, but the high prices for amenities and accommodations have led some to question the overall value of their stay.

The hotel has the potential to offer a five-star experience. Here are some items that I would rank as being already in the five-star category, followed by those where there is still room for improvement: Five-start experience items: a) People: Since you are welcomed to the hotel, the staff makes sure you understand that they are happy (genuinely) to make sure your stay at the resort is unforgettable. From the front desk staff to the restaurant waitresses, the resort staff understand how to make your stay unique. b) Infrastructure: The hotel has outstanding facilities, including an amazing golf course, comfortable rooms, and spacious meeting rooms. The beach is calm (it is important to recall that the sand in the northeast of the island is not the typical white sand beach) and offers an opportunity to relax. The pools are well-designed, and they host areas for children and families. The gym and spa are decent. Less than five-star experience items: a) Gastronomy: The number of locations, diversity of menu, and even prices are limited and do not match the type of hotel. With the untapped potential of Caribbean food, the hotel could go above and beyond to incorporate traditional dishes as a core of its offering. For example, the breakfast buffer didn't have many local options that could make breakfast or brunch a difficult-to-forget experience. The cocktails were also limited in the number of choices and the quality of the preparation. Being located in a rum-rich area, you would expect that they would have crafted amazing rum-based cocktails, but they have failed. Not even a basic cocktail like the Piña Colada was great. b) Facilities maintenance: Understanding the effect of Hurricane Maria, some elements of our stay could have been solved with regular maintenance issues. For example, our wonderful bathtub was stained, and even after asking two times for it to be cleaned, the "rust" was still present. This prevented us from using it, which, again, does not align with a five-star experience. In a similar way, some of the pathways lack a little bit of maintenance. c) Exclusive amenities: Having had the opportunity to be in other five-star resorts, we lacked the pampering elements we had experienced in the past. Simple things like offering a pillow menu (you choose the type of pillows you want for your room) could make the experience even better. Being part of the Marriot brand, there is also a lost opportunity to extend Elite members with experiences that make us feel even more welcome.

I can honestly say this is one of the nicest resorts I have ever been to; we were blown away by the St Regis Bahia Beach Resort just about on every front. Right when getting out of the car we felt the secluded nature of the resort made us want to relax and unwind. During the day lizards are running amok and once the sun sets the airwaves are filled with the sounds of owls and coqui frogs. The boardwalk that connects the resort are spotless and the grounds are kept in immaculate shape. Depending on what building you are staying in be prepared to walk to your destination which isn’t the worst thing given the sheer beauty of the resort. This is truly a beach resort. There are a series of pools connected via small waterfalls or 1 foot deep kids pools and each pool is stunning. We spent most of our time here as the kids loved swimming. The pool chairs are comfortable and I saw in previous reviews people were upset about lizard droppings; they clearly fixed this as the pool deck was clean as were the chairs apart from some bird droppings which the staff would hose off every morning. There were a ton of chairs and umbrellas and we never had an issue with finding seating even with the resort near full capacity though I would go down at about 6:30 AM to claim our preferred location. The beach also has service with chairs/towels and my kids loving digging and jumping into the waves. Though there is a strong current if you make it past the first dip the sand bar makes it so the kids can have a blast boogy boarding and such. Many days we took a stroll on the beach and found sand dollars and other cool shells. The beach and pool staff were superb and every day at around 2:30 you get a popsicle from an Old San Juan favorite popsicle shop which my kids loved. What really sets this resort apart is the staff. They truly are one of a kind and they go above and beyond in just about every situation. My kids loved getting to know various staff members (while on golf cart rides) and they remembered our names and greeted us by name whenever walking around or showing up for a meal. Massive props to our “butlers” who helped us and front team members Hector and Issac who deserve nothing but 5 star awards. These two guys are truly out of this world and days even after leaving my 2 young kids keep bringing them up. Brazielle (spelling may be off) who worked the front of the house at various restaurants was so welcoming and also an absolute delight. When not at the beach or pool we spent a lot of time on the Lake either paddleboarding, kayaking or on the big inflatable park which the kids loved. Pro tip the Lake has a small food spot where things are fairly priced including ice cream and some canned cocktails. We also went to see the goats/chickens and walked the dogs twice while on our stay. The only negative as just about every review has pointed out was the food and the vicious birds at Seagrapes. Breakfast was legit (massive buffet which we got for our Marriot status) and honestly lunch was too (though every item is prob $5-10 more than it should be) it is dinner which things really fell apart with limited menus and prices that are higher than the nicest restaurants in Boston. Service was decent for dinner though it got slower as the week went on as the resort was crowded. Props for bringing in 2 food trucks for service for the week as honestly that was the best dinner meals we had while on property. The lobby bar restaurant was average – the burger for $30+ was nothing special, the hummus app for $17 was blah at best and the tuna app for $37 was underwhelming; it is the 1 scoop of melted ice cream for $12 that really caused my head to pop off. The food truck burger for $16 was eons better and honestly really legit. The biggest positive about the food is that the kids menu at each spot for all 3 meals is fairly priced at around $10-$12. Make sure to check your bills as some of the restaurants included tips while others didn’t. All in all truly a special spot and with some changes to their food prices/menus this place would truly be 5 stars. I also would suggest they build a general store where you could get a bag of chips, candy bar etc – that would go a long way!

I have been going to the St Regis Bahia beach with my family and some friends for 3 years and this year was the best year yet - the new managment team of Fremiot and Anja are delivering a new and innovative approach to the vast space available at the property - new food and coffee offerings, s'mores and activities for kids, food trucks with local brews and live music etc etc while still maintaining the level of luxury you expect from a St Regis - Fremiot and Anja can be seen every day walking the property and talking with guests, I look forward to being back next year!!! Great wide beach with no crowd, peaceful pool, lake bounce houses for kids, golf, bars, restaurants - no need to leave!

The service at the St Regis is without compare. The property is lovely and incredibly well maintained, the beach is spectacular, and the pools are serene. But the staff are what makes this resort so special. Warm and friendly, attentive without hovering, the staff at the St Regis are the best. We were thrilled with our room which was an unexpected upgrade- gorgeous, spacious, clean and comfortable with beautiful views. Yes, onsite dining is expensive but that should be expected. The quality and preparation of the food was top-notch, particularly the seafood, and a special shout out to Brenda in Paros who had excellent recommendations and was an all around delight.

Do your research about this location if you are escaping the northeast winter for a few days. • This resort is in the Atlantic Ocean side. No white sand beach, no turquoise water. Dangerous rip currents, and warnings. •This resort is very close to a rain forest, expect showers daily. Very humid climate. No-see-um bugs, day and night. Painful , itchy bites from them. •This resort does not offer enough variety for food. There are not enough restaurants on the property. The food is sub-par for a St. Regis. The breakfast was similar to what you expect at a Marriott Courtyard. It is difficult to dine outside due to very aggressive birds. •Old San Juan is a 45 min. drive away,$90 each way for a driver. •We were not informed about the property upon check in. There is a beach club with an infinity pool, and an adults only area. They take you there in a golf cart about 2 mins.from the main building. We learned of the Beach Club and restaurant over there by checking out the golf pro shop because it was next to it. •There is no common space or main Lobby area to hang out in when it’s raining. • We were there 01/31/2024-02/05/2024, and according to the main desk, they were fully booked, and could not upgrade us, even though we had Marriott status. Our room for 3 nights was paid with points, and it cost $3,300 for an additional two nights, with no ocean view! However, there were many empty chairs around the pool all day, and hardly anyone at the beach club. An employee said they were only 30% occupied, much less than prior years at the same time. •The grounds were not well kept, and you never saw anyone working picking up debris, so it remained there every day. The rain had blown palm tree limbs down, and they remained dried up on the ground. •The gym was tiny, and there were no activities or classes offered. If you wanted to do yoga, you had to reserve a private instructor 72 hours in advance. •The Golf course was good. •The Spa was very nice, and you could use the sauna, steam room and hot tub even if you did not book a treatment. •We learned about a great hidden gem to go to for lunch just a short walk down the beach. The setting was very Caribbean like,a small hut, with a grill , and a selection of 4 different types of fresh fish that they grill in the spot for you, served with coconut rice and fresh grilled vegetables. We went twice for lunch, and it was the best food during our 5 day stay. We were able to charge it to our room, so they were affiliated with the resort, yet no one told us about it upon check in or we would have gone there every day. •Although we did not have an Ocean view, our room was very nice. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows, bedding, towels and robes were not luxurious like you would expect from a St.Regis. •All the wait staff, and porters were all very friendly. •Our main complaint with this resort, is with the Brand. It was barely Marriott status, not what we expected from a St Regis. We could have gone to the regular Marriott Stelaris in Aruba, and paid less, and had better food, and a better beach. •This is one time to believe all the lower star reviews about this property.

Dear Vacation55859188345, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We appreciate your insights, as they help us improve our guest experience. We understand your disappointment for the inconveniences caused by the weather and presence of insects. Our location in a rainforest does indeed bring occasional showers, but rest assured, we will explore solutions to address the issues you've highlighted. We apologize for not communicating all the amenities our resort has to offer upon check-in. We are delighted to hear that you were able to find Sandollar Beach Bar, which is part of the Bahia Beach Resort community where our hotel is located. As a guest of The St. Regis, you are able to use their facilities, such as the Beach Club, Golf Course and Wellness Center, equipped with tennis courts and a basketball court. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and we hope you'll consider giving us another chance to exceed your expectations in the future. We would appreciate the opportunity to have you back and have the 5-star experience our guests know and love. Please find my email below should you want to discuss your experience further or want to come back to the property. Warm regards, Anja Frankenbach General Manager anja.frankenbach@stregis.com

The good: the service, the room, the pool, and most of the amenities. The staff was willing to help with anything we asked of them. They arranged a driver for our excursions out to local restaurants and were generally overall helpful with our luggage, ice in the room, etc. while I was hopeful for an ocean-view upgrade due to my Marriott status, when one wasn’t available, I wasn’t at all disappointed because the view of the lush gardens around the resort were just fine. It wasn’t like we were facing a parking lot or anything. Our room, a suite, was excellent. The layout of the pool was great, in that we could avoid the families and find ourselves a quiet place to sit and relax. We also walked the beach over to the Beach Club and enjoyed an afternoon lounging by the Adult’s Only Pool there. Nice to have the alternative to mix things up. We enjoyed getting bikes and checking out the property at our leisure, riding over to pet the goats on campus, play on the inflatables, and even did a little Stand Up Paddle Boarding. Plus, it was nice that we could utilize the spa without actually having a treatment scheduled. We took advantage of the sauna, steam room, and cold plunge without having to book a massage. I feel like most resorts don’t allow you to do that. Made the $99 resort fee more tenable. The bad: I hesitate to say bad because we truly enjoyed our stay, but we were disappointed that there was no local fish on any of the menus. The prices were high, but in line with what we expected. Also, they didn’t really offer any clinics at the tennis facility. While they had nice courts, it would’ve been nice to have been able to join a clinic for an honest workout. The private lessons were too pricey to be worthwhile. Also, the rackets they have to lend were suspect. If you’re a serious player, bring your own. The ugly: nada. Again, we truly enjoyed our trip. More than one of our drivers told us the St Regis is the best property in PR right now and we couldn’t help but agree.

From the moment we arrived until we reluctantly left for the airport, my husband and I felt well taken care of. The rooms, grounds, pool, and beach were all stunning, but it was the exceptional staff that truly made our stay special. Whether it was the wait staff, housekeepers, room service, or pool attendants, they all went out of their way to ensure our comfort. We dined at both Seagrapes and the St. Regis Bar, where the food was well-prepared, although not exceptional. One evening, we ordered room service to enjoy a meal on our balcony while listening to the evening Coqui chorus. The person who delivered our food took great care in setting a beautiful table for us. The hotel overlooks a vast, nearly deserted beach, providing a peaceful setting for leisurely walks with the soothing sound of the waves. The hotel also arranged an excellent half-day tour of El Yunque, just a short distance away. Additionally, we enjoyed birding on the hotel's nature trails and spotted several interesting birds. As others have mentioned, due to the hotel's isolation, dining options are limited. It's advisable to make reservations in advance (which can always be canceled). I sincerely hope to return someday; it was a truly exceptional experience.

The hotel itself is excellent. The staff are helpful and it’s right on the beach. The golf course is in great condition. The gym is good. However the hotel is isolated. So if you want to go anywhere it’s a long ride. The restaurants are just ok. The service can be incredibly slow and going offsite to any other restaurant will take a long ride.

We love the st Regis brand. The thought of a St Regis in a remote Caribbean cove sounded by a jungle and an ocean…what could be wrong with that. The answer, nothing! Most imprints the staff are amazing. Every person we interacted with was delightful. People knew our name before we checked in. Everyone was so kind and happy it made us smile. The views are amazing. The beach is quiet and very private. The bars were fun, shout out to Oscar and Javier! The food was very good. The mix of local and traditional fare was nice and a fun way to eat. I did not quite understand so many little kids at the resort. It’s a very quiet and very remote location. You are not close to anything other than the large resort. Not really what I would think as a Resort for little kids. There main pool has a low entry area, don’t get near unless you have a baby. We learned later about the adults only pool at the beach club. Very nice. Only complaint was that there were some areas that needed a refresh. Some furniture was stained. And some of the external areas needed a sandblast or some fresh paint. But it is located in a jungle on the beach. Maintenance must be hard.
