This place is truly a gem - not only does it have all the home comforts at a reasonable price, it has a magical feel - peaceful and pretty, fruit trees (the apples were delicious) and gardens, a treasure of a place and very relaxed. We also got a warm friendly welcome! I'd highly recommend staying here.
Myself & husband booked in for a couple of nights, we stayed for a week! The facilities were spotless. Kate is a hands on host. She makes a point of interacting with all her guests. Highly recommend 👌
Greenstone Retreat is an amazing place to stay for anyone travelling or wanting to stay and enjoy the peaceful setting. It offers all the facilities you need and a very attentive host - Kate runs yoga classes and enjoys a meaningful conversation. We will definitively be back!
Highly recommend this as a great place to stay to explore the west coast. Lots of activities short drives away eg nature walks. Super friendly hosts. Nice rustic, relaxed vibe. Great clean facilities.
Perfect base for West Coast Wildernesses cycle. Friendly, helpful and the facilities especially the bathrooms were spotless. We based ourselves here for 3 nights camper and tent site Recommended Thanks Kate and AJ
Greenstone Retreat may be small but it makes up for this with its peaceful garden setting. All the facilities you need are available and in good condition. Various accommodation options are available from bunk room to powered Campervan sites. Kate is an attentive and informative host. Check with her if you are into yoga as she does run classes a couple of times a week. We will be back.
Lovely owner Kate. The amenities are nice and modern and clean. Kate has put a lot of thought into the property with powered and non-powered sites and studio rooms and villa. There is a huge washing machine and dryer available and full kitchen, you can even buy supplies there. Kate kindly picked us up from Hokitika after we had completed a bike trip and gave us a ride back. Highly recommend this place, nice and safe with a good vibe. Kate also teaches yoga in her studio there.
Arrived at the Retreat at the end of a nine hour car journey to be given a warm and friendly welcome by Kate. Our family bunk room was warm , spotlessly clean and very comfortable , bunk beds excellent , showers etc great , semi outdoor kitchen delightfully quirky , enjoyed eating our meal in the cosy den . Peaked in at the villa which looked wooderful , maybe next time ?? Nga Mihi Nui
I was disappointed by the facilities during my visit (this winter, during cold weather). The woman who runs the premises, although friendly, did not provide sufficient wood to keep the house warm (I had conveyed to her that I was recovering from a recent injury). ie. in the morning the house was freezing and no wood provided. also, the heater in the bedroom did not work properly. I was dismayed also to find that the access to the front door had slippery, slimy unstable stone pavers very loosely nestled in sand...even when I pointed it out to staff nothing was done. Lovely old historic house done up beautifully but not recommended for anyone who isn't prepared (in winter) for freezing cold house! Also had disappointing experience, tried to run myself a hot bath (which would have been lovely) but the bath plug was old and the water continued to leak out of the bath! Not very nice experience especially when in such a cold house. Take lots of warm clothes and a hot water bottle if you go there in winter. In summer there would be no issues and she did say she would replace bath plug as soon as possible. Lovely historic old house and very clean.…
Cozy and comfortable in the dorms! Thanks Kate :) Your gardens and yoga studio are beautiful. It felt like staying in someone’s home which was very nice. The outdoor kitchen was impressive and play dingbats in the lounge for a good laugh. Easy access to Hokitika and Greymouth.
