This now marks my second trip to Caracol. My friends and I like to come for the Festival however this time she and I tried Caracol as I liked it so much the last time I visited Caracol. She said after the first day that she would never go back to out old resort as she loved everything about this one. Grounds are immaculate, staff are all so friendly, the entertainment staff works so hard and it shows clearly through the shows and the activities they put on. I am already in the process of planning my trip back in June with a group of friends. We normally fly out of Toronto but unfortunately there is no flights out of Toronto as of yet. While we wouldn’t do the bus ride from Holguín for our old preferred resort, we will definitely be making the trip to come back to Caracol. Nothing negative to say about this past trip. I always feel very safe on and off the resort and can’t wait to be back again ❤️

This was my second time at this hotel and 16th time in the area, having stayed at all 4 hotels. This time we were allowed to visit and eat at all 4 hotels on the new "4X4 program". The buffet restaurant at the Caracol is the poorest run of all 4 hotels. They seem to have the most supervisory and service staff members yet the service is by far the worst. On numerous occasions there were no plates, spoons, coffee cups, soup bowls and food trays were frequently left empty as supervisory staff walked around, doing nothing. There is a sign at the door that states "no food to be removed". I watched several instances where local Cubans filled bags with food and on one occasion I watched as a member of the supervisory team took a Cuban woman's empty bag into the kitchen and brought it out full. Then she sat down and proceeded to put 2 full plates of food, WITH THE PLATES, into her bag and the staff member held the door for her as she left. There are too many Cubans allowed to vacation in the resorts. Due to cultural differences, these people have no respect for the environment, other guests or anything else. If I wanted to vacation with pigs, I would visit a farm. I brought all of the above to the attention of management and they agreed with me. There is a lack of various drinks including no pina coladas. They need to get some of the "slushy" machines as seen in other resorts. I hope that Nivea and her team can make the necessary changes to allow Caracol to be the #1 resort in the area.

The hotel property is well maintained. The rooms are the best. Beds are new, closets work, security card works, and all of them are suites with a minifridge in the entrance room. This hotel was Bravo Caracol for a few years (managed and renovated by Italians). Now they have pulled out because they don't see any way to profit from running the place as it is remote and most of the clientele are repeat customers. All the outside (outside of the resort) entertainment has been closed. It is so quiet that you can walk in the middle of the road (that runs in front of the hotel) and not get runover. However, this is a sign that there is nothing to do outside the hotel. The taxis and horse buggies are fleecing the customers as there is no other mode of transportation. The quality of food at the hotel has gone down. The Italians brought in some flavour but it has now reverted to typical cuban taste (bland). Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of food but they can run out when local cubans visit on the weekends. They seem to waste food by filling their plates and then just take a bite. If they don't like it, they get another plateful. You will also see them packing food in containers to take outside the resort. The beach is nice with saragosa floating near the shore, which is regularly cleaned. However I don't see a lot of sea life (fishes, crabs, turtles, seagulls) near the beach. OK to visit once for a super quiet holiday but definitely not to party.

We visited Club Amigo Caracol in November and had a great time. The rooms are very basic, but the bathrooms seem newly renovated. We paid for a second floor, ocean view. We were right near a walkway, so basically kept our drapes pulled most of the time. Windows did not open and are so old, they may have simply popped out had we pushed on them. The sliding doors to the balcony did not open easily, and my husband who always spends a bit of time on the balcony on these trips waiting for me to get ready, rarely went out. Our first night there I swear we slept in the last guests' sheets...why do I think this? They did not look like they had been changed and because the next day, after housekeeping had been in our room, the sheets were crisp and CLEAN as they should be. The bedspread had mystery stains on it that were permanent. We were not upset by any of this, as we did not pay a lot for this all inclusive holiday and were not expecting a luxury experience. The beach was nice, but not as nice as Cayo Santa Maria. They have a bit of the seaweed issue that is plaguing part of Mexico, but they do a fantastic job of cleaning it off the beach....there is a lot in the water itself though, so I never really swam in the ocean, which is unusual for me. The loungers and palapas were plentiful and the beach expansive for walking. Unfortunately, there is soooo much plastic washing ashore. Very sad to see. The pool is really lovely, although we rarely used it. The towel lady very nice and accommodating. It was pretty quiet while we were there, but the entertainment staff tried their best to get things going. We had one beach volleyball game with them and some other players, which was fun. The food at this resort is okay, as with most Cuban resorts. We found all of the employees extremely friendly and amazing. The cooks and chefs who make the meals go far beyond the call of duty to try and make your meals the best they can. We had a couple of birthdays while there and they made amazing, delicious cakes for each of them! The waiters are amazing. Lazario is one who stands out, as he really did his best to make sure every meal was the best it could be. Super nice guy we all enjoyed meeting. I'm not sure if there was a snack bar that was open late at night, but thankfully, they had a little convenience store on site, so we could buy our own Pringles to snack on when we were hungry. The beach grill was great for lunch or afternoon snack. LOVED the garlic soaked vinegar they served for your french fries. By the end of the week we were all spraying it on EVERYTHING lol. An important note: You receive ONE 1 litre of bottled water upon arrival and that's it. The rest of the time you have to purchase it from the lobby bar or refill that plastic bottle from the drinking water receptacle at the bar (which I witnessed a bartender dump the remaining ice from his ice bucket INTO the drinking water at one point....we started buying it after that). I'm not sure if it is an eco thing to cut back on plastic and water waste, but charging for bottle water should not be allowed. The dancers and entertainment crew are a group of young people who are fantastic dancers and super friendly. They really make you feel like you are an important guest. The shows at night were okay. Seriously, I understand that they are trying to add variety, but we (as an audience) would be happy just watching them dance Salsa. They choreograph themselves and I think write their own skits, so it's understandable. Very amazing, hard working young people though. They seem to work 16 hours a day. I would return to this resort if the price was right. We had a wonderful time and I have to say, the food was better at this resort than some other Cuban resorts. The staff are really phenomenal and make you want to return.
