Only one resort open in Santa Lucia. The Brisas. It is terrible. Has become a cuban people resort. At first, I booked at Caracol down the road from Brisas. Spent Christmas and New Year there. To say is was chaotic is an understatement. Filled with Cubans who were raucous, drunk, littering everywhere and pilfering food. Due to covid protocols, there was a lineup to get into the dining room. Cubans would cut in front of you and you got pushed back further to 10th place even if you were 2nd in line. Then the powers that be (Cuban Govt) decided to close the resort and transfer all the guests / tourists to Brisas. Was OK for a few days and then once again the same thing over. Fights in the restaurant, drunk cubans and absolutely no regard for social distancing. Mind you, the staff were doing their very best but the management just did not have control when things got out of hand. If you went late for dinner, slim pickings. Will not go there. Will look for a 4 star and above if I go back to Cuba. There are other resorts in Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico where your dollar is well spent.

It was my first stay at Brisas and I had a wonderful time. A good sized room, very clean, comfortable king size bed and eveything functioned properly. The staff where great always helpful and friendly. An excellent variety of food with lots of choices fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, seafoods, beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and lots of deserts. Comfortable lobby and patio sitting areas with good bars and service, love a nice cup of Cuban coffee. Large pool with ample deck and lounge area. One of my favorites is the evening show, the dancers performances were spectacular. I will be returning soon.

So if you overlook a few minor imperfections with infrastucture [This is Cuba } , this can prove to a really good investment of your tourist dollar. Some people say Cuban food is bland. Well maybe, just maybe they are at the wrong hotel The quantity and quality are excellent. And full of flavor ! And artfully presented. Super sevice everywhere. The ocean has a bit of sea grass but the beach is kept well gromed. Diving on the reef is well worth the few extra dollars as are the Hobie Cats. If you ask , not far from here is a great place to do horse back riding on the beach, or in the surf or trails to see flamingos. The rooms while not real fancy are just fine and clean. Room are kept clean by a more than pleasant staff. No one is unfriendly. Make sure you visit Camaquey if you get a chance. Ah Cuba, I can see why Hemingway loved it. So beautiful in the country in central Cuba. Make sure you buy Cuban polyfloral honey and Cuban coffee .both among the best the world has to offer. And I will tell you a secret. , the real treasure to be found there is the Cuban people.

It was my second time back to the Brisas Santa Lucia. Realistically it is a 3 star resort. The hotel is trying to improve and I give them credit for that. Rooms have upgraded mattresses now. Although bathrooms are sketchy. Most staff are friendly and the entertainment staff are better than all the other resorts I've been in Cuba. Only one bottle of water was included in the room, which is not enough for a weeks stay. They charge 2 pesos per day for the room safe. It should be free in my opinion. Food is a hit and miss but they try. Some of the chefs lack basic cooking knowledge or they just don't care. Serving undercooked meat. The main problem is that now this hotel mainly caters to Russians and many of them behaved very rudely and primitivly. All in all I had a great time because I met some great fellow Canadians and had some nice excursions outside the hotel and also the entertainment staff were so friendly with all of us.

Minus -rude growing Russian clientele who like to fight when they’re drunk -poor conditions and lack of resources to upkeep and maintain the hotel not the fault of the staff -reception staff two in particular who were very rude. These people think they don’t have to move a finger and they are royalty of some sort. Train the face of your hotel with high standards and get rid of the ones who don’t maintain the high standards that you work for. (First person was the young girl who thinks she’s a princess because her moms a boss and the second person is the old grump manager of reception with glasses who would die to break a smile to clients) Plus -EXCELLENT public relations team who greet you with warm smiles every day. They made a terrible exchange with reception turn into a positive one. Thanks so much. They work so hard every day to capture, photograph and post all the beautiful moments and efforts at Brisas. -all other reception staff and employees of the hotel. El chino who responds to you with a smile and welcomes every question -new renovations and paint jobs -Maceo at Hola Sun
