Great little village with rushing stream and hemmed-in houses in a narrow valley. One of the beautiful villages of France and lives up to its title. Le Dristan is a nice enough hotel, with parking across the stream. Rooms are spartan but adequate. The main problem is the management, which is either indifferent by nature, or overworked and indifferent. rooms were still being cleaned at check-in time, 5pm. the restaurant (!) was close till seven pm. the derive and the food was lackluster and poor value for money. The breakfast was inadequate with execrable coffee. The owner was world weary... And all this at the beginning of the summer season! We were led to believe there was a pool but failed to locate it. My first recommendation to pass by.

To begin with the more positive, the room was very basic but clean. Fine for an overnight stay. The shower was possibly in the smallest space we've encountered and the shower head needed tightening to stay in place. Swiss army penknives have their uses! Breakfast was a typical French buffet breakfast. The positives end there. Dinner was awful. We arrived in the restaurant and were promptly seated. At least half an hour later we managed to get an aperitif. That was after others who had come in after us were attended to and I tried to make the point that we had been waiting and ignored several times before getting a cursory response. No apology. The one waiter could be seen running around apparently aimlessly giving a clear impression of total disorganisation. There was no choice of menu other than take it or leave it. We did leave most of it. The centre piece was supposedly a truffade. We actually got a combination of burned and undercooked potato with cheese that had the consistency of tasteless chewing gum, all stirred together into a greasy mess. Accompanying ham was poor, hard at one end and lacking in flavour. The lettuce was good though. Dessert were not particularly good. The apricot cake was particularly stodgy and the pastry on the apple pie was hard. When we were asked whether we enjoyed the meal my wife made the clear point that having eaten in restaurants across France for over 50 years this was the worst meal she had ever experienced. The response was a startled look and a Gallic shrug. A nice meal at the end of a long day (and I am not talking about Michelin starred restaurants) with good service is something to look forward to. This did not come up to expectation by any stretch of the imagination.

Spent one night here in June and while basic, it was very clean and just fine for a quick stay. The food in the restaurant was quite good. Chantal and Philippe were very nice after I had left something important in my room. They found it for me, put it aside and sent it to me subsequently. Very nice of them and very much appreciated.

We found the Hotel Dristan to be a very pleasant place to stay for two nights on a journey across France. The hotel was very good value for money, we were made to feel welcome, the room was fairly basic without a TV or drinks making facility. The food was good although the menu was limited. St Floret is a charming small village with one bar in a very beautiful part of France.

We reserved a triple room in Hotel Le Dristan in October 2010 while we attended Sommett de Elevage agricultural show. We were very well taken care of,we had dinner both nights which was good. Our room was adequate though not palatial. This hotel is in a nice village. We will hopefully be returning in October 2012
