Amansala is a beautiful boutique resort located right on the white sandy beaches of Tulum. Bikini Bootcamp takes place almost weekly which is a tune up for the mind, body and spirit. Days start with a power walk on the beach, and include yoga, fantastic fitness classes, tours to see the highlights of the area, healthy natural food, massages, and much more. A perfect place to come on ones own or with a friend for anyone seeking a holiday with a purpose with a good blend of being active but still having time to relax on the beautiful beach. Amansala is one of the oldest hotels in Tulum, although the style has modernized the soulfness of our beautiful hotel has stayed the same.

This place was absolutely amazing!! I would come here again in a heartbeat ❤️. It is right on a beautiful beach 🏖️ that is wonderful to swim in. They also have 2 pools that are kept in pristine condition. I was here on a yoga retreat with a group of 25 people. There are 3 yoga studios that are airy and beautiful. The food was delicious and service was the best. You can also order smoothies, fresh juices or food anytime and they offer beach service as well. There are multiple shaded and unshaded cabanas, palapa and bean bag chairs on the beach and at night they have candles lit everywhere. They offer additional excursions to Mayan ruins and cenotes. I highly recommend the cenote - Ben took us there and it was awesome. Our friends did the Temazcal sweat lodge ceremony and none of them recommended that one, however the Mayan clay ceremony was great. The room we stayed in was not on the beach but only a 2 minute walk to it. I had a 2 bedroom first floor unit with a covered balcony that you could see the ocean from. There was a warm breeze the whole five days we were there. The only things that took a little getting used to : the AC in the rooms is only on from 9 am to 9 pm (it’s $25/day extra if you want it on more), there’s no hairdryers or tvs and you can’t put any paper in the toilets, including toilet paper. These are because it’s a solar powered eco resort. None of that ended up being a big deal for us. They also play music which you can hear while on the beach- it’s usually pretty chill but at times it was a bit loud for me. Overall this was one of the most relaxing enjoyable trips I’ve had in quite awhile. Highly recommend!!!

Booked for one night - stayed for four! This hotel is amazing. I came as a solo traveler and felt so welcome and safe by the staff. Every day they helped me to easily extend my reservation by text because I wasn't ready to leave, and they helped me keep the same upgraded room the full time. Started the stay with one of the best messages of my life from Maria Luisa with the Mayan Healing message. Can't even put into words how good she was. And that was just the start of the amazing service. It's a great location for people that work remote, or groups looking to have a good time. The beach club is busy but not too busy it feels crowded.Tried a lot of the dishes at the restaurant and all of them, regardless if it was asian or mexican cuisine was amazing, and the food and drinks came out fast! Things are decently priced for being on the beach. The location is great, it's close to the main tulum town and probably 20 minutes from the party zone so it's quiet. The beach club is definitely a good option to check out even if you don't stay here. A great decently priced option when coming to Tulum.

My team and I held a retreat here of over 20 people.. and honestly, we couldn't have been more BLESSED with how amazing everything went.
It was all so WELL organised and taken care of and on numerous occasions I remember talking to my team and saying how much of a load was taken off of our shoulders because of how well the Amansala team showed up.

The food was absolutely delicious, the staff were so so helpful with moving things and organising what we needed at the venue. the shalas themselves were gorgeous in the various locations. The rooms had beautiful views...
honestly, everything went so well. I will always consider coming back to have more retreats here because of how convenient, organised it was and the experience that just being in that location provided in addition to the work we were already doing.
Thank you Amansala, again , for such a beautiful experience.

Very spartan decorated room with close to no amenities in the room. The room itself was quite dark with no bed side lights. The same simplicity goes for the rest of the hotel, the breakfast was simple with a couple of dishes. Juices can be ordered but at an extra cost.
The selling point of the hotel are the views of the beach and ocean which are wonderful. Staff were at times quite rude apart from security at the front desk which were very friendly and helpful.

All in all, the hotel in itself is overpriced and that extra quality and service which you expect from a hotel in this price range is lacking. However, the beach is great.

We stayed 4 nights at Amansala as part of a longer trip to the Yucatan Peninsula.
The structure would be nice but it is very poorly maintained, for any service you need to pay extra compared to the already expensive price of the room (price among other things of
All nonsensical and not justified by the quality offered). For example, cleaning is offered every other day (for daily cleaning they charge a $25 supplement for additional cleaning): this is inconceivable not only given the fact that the general level of cleanliness is very poor (just to give an example, for days outside our room there were piles of dirty dishes from the neighboring room, with flies and insects buzzing around, dishes that were removed only in response to our complaints) and that room cleaning is done in a really coarse way, but also that toilet paper should be thrown in an open basket that, if you do not pay the supplement, is emptied only every 48 hours.
The local staff are courteous but you can sense that they are unhappy with the work arrangement. The non-local staff is absolutely rude and treats guests with decency. In general, the structure is not elegant (although I want to look it).
There is nothing about retreats unless you are willing to pay absurd amounts for everything.

on the one hand, the staff was very nice, accommodating and helpful (especially Bernie, our server/waiter for the week) and our room was literally right on the beach. However, things went downhill from there.
1. this was about the most we ever paid for a room, at almost $600 per night. beachfront was nice, but we have had much nicer places beachfront for far less per night.
2. as we check in, we find out that we cannot drink or use the room tap water to Bruch teeth, so they provide large bottles of water. nor can we flush the toilet paper.
3. we pre-booked round trip shuttle, thinking there was a discounted rate, only to find we could have booked the same return shuttle there for less.
4. we pre-paid/pre-booked 4 massages on site. we were both disappointed (not deep tissues as we had requested) with first massage, so we canceled the other 2 and got better massages down the beach for less money.
5. not sure if it was the food or water on site or elsewhere, but 4 of the 6 of us got sick that last 2 days of our week. and another yoga group had about 10 people that got sick

Worst welcoming ever by owner Melissa! I arrived to the front desk and was told i had only booked 1 night instead of 2 by a lady at the reception area. By her side was the owner Melissa (US expat), she looked agitated between her computer and other staff from the hotel. She said to me is Dec 31 New Years and it will be impossible to accommodate you with the same rate and the room you have is not available. I was a bit disoriented I went to my phone to look to a WhatsApp message I had exchange with the hotel prior to my arrival. There I stated I had 2 nights and also that they were offering me an upgrade for only $55 extra per night!

As I waited for them to get back to me, the other lady at the reception area came tot ell me they could upgrade me to the next level room for $125 extra and that the offer made 2 days ago of $55 was no longer available!

Everything was handled very rough, the owner when I approached her again told me I should talk to the reception lady in a rude way.

I had dreamt to come here and have a 2 day relaxing real treat and the beginning was not looking good!

While I was thinking what to do a very friendly and warm heart person approached me and my friend, her name was Bea from Germany and was the yoga instructor and public Relations. We loved her as well as Angel who took our bags to our room and all the other staff at the restaurant.

We decided to only stay 1 night and booked an Airbnb somewhere else. We were very tired from long travel and needed to rest.

The room we got was the garden room (more simple one) but it didn’t match with the pics they had online. It was very very small.

The food at the restaurant was good.
The included breakfast was ok, in my opinion it needed to cover fresh juice and have more options. You can order juice a la carte.

The view of the beach was beautiful

The unpleasant welcoming by receptionist and owner was the worst I’ve ever had.

I will never return to this hotel! There are plenty of hotels on Tulum beach and I am willing to give them a try.

We arrived at Amansala after a week in a private home with our whole family. We came to decompress and workout off the margaritas from the previous week. Our expectations were relatively low given our plummeting views on the area in general (rip-offs abound from exorbitant taxi fares to $25 margaritas).

Were we in for a happy surprise!

Everything was above and beyond at Amansala. From the greeting at check-in (early? no problem!) to the room itself (spectacular beachfront room 25- highly recommend), to our first lunch with the outstanding head waiter Ernie catering to our every wish.

The location itself cannot be beat. And despite the seaweed problem they keep the beach and the grounds in impeccable condition.

The food is plentiful, healthy, colorful, delicious.

We were part of the boot camp program about which I cannot say enough good things. All our teachers were outstanding, from morning until early evening they put us through our paces: beach walk, yoga flow, strength and tone, dancing (fun and exhausting!), core workout, and finally a blissful yin practice to end the day. We left with another level of fitness after only 4 nights. Remarkable.

2 Massages came with our packages. My first massage was with a man and was very good but man, oh, man, my second was one to never forget: Maria Luisa practices Mayan belly massage which is good in its own right but she is a gifted therapist, shaman, body worker all in one. Do not pass the opportunity to receive the gift of her wisdom.

Lastly, Melissa, the founder and owner of this remarkable property, is a treasure. She shows such genuine interest in her guests, her property, the Amansala experience that it shows in every facet of your stay. She is EVERYWHERE all at once and even gave one of our fitness classes when the scheduled teacher dropped out. This woman has the energy and enthusiasm of ten people.

I travel a lot, I'm in the luxury hotel business, I have been spoiled by luxury experiences for decades, and I am a dedicated fitness buff, and I was bowled over by this stay. So much so that my partner and I immediately started planning our next visit (and we rarely repeat a trip) in December when we anticipate there being less seaweed (literally the only fly in the ointment).

Amansala- you either love it or hate it. I consider myself a snob, but to me, it was sheer bohemian Paradise. I did the bikini boot camp with a girlfriend and truly enjoyed every minute of the authentic Tulum experience, but there are a few things to know:

*the resort is 2 hours from Cancun airport so we used their transfers to and from the hotel and
were pleased
*plan on being barefoot during most of your stay as the hotel pathways are beach sand
*this eco chic resort doesnt allow hair dryers
*they request you dispose of toilet tissue in the waste basket (this goes for EVERYWHERE in Tulum)
*the food and fresh pressed juices included in the Bikini Bootcamp retreat are fresh and delicious and the resort provides vegetarian/gluten free options. Staff was lovely.
*I did most of the fitness classes during my stay and loved the variety of yoga experiences - Jessy Crystal, Kuun, and Darlene all have their own teaching style and each one is incredible
* Mack’s Afro Beats class was soooo fun and really got me out of my comfort zone
* All 3 excursions visiting the Ruins, Cenotes, and Mangroves were fun and I met some other cool hotel guests. Carlo led us on these trips and he went out of his way to make them extra special for us. We felt very safe with him and even VIP
*if your up for a challenge, the sweat lodge with shamanic healer Maria Luisa was a very memorable Mayan ritual and certainly a team bonding experience. It’s an additional fee, but I totally thought was worth it
*if you want to get off campus my two favorite restaurants were Posada Margarita, an Italian owned restaurant just a few steps away on the beach….amazing shrimp with homemade linguine AND Meze, which has the tastiest wood fired octopus I’ve ever had.
*id definitely return to Amansala, and felt safe enough to travel there alone.
*We stayed in room 31- a double oceanfront room with a balcony and the most breathtaking view.

This truly is such a special place.

Thank you for taking the time to write this wonderful review. We are glad you enjoyed the fitness classes we have a team of knowledgable trainer that take pride in giving the best experience and perfect balance between relaxation time and fitness. As well as enjoying some of our spiritual evening activities..It sounds like you created your own special experience with us. And thank you for clarifying this!! Tulum is a magical experience which is supposed to take you outside of your comfort zone and allow you to journey the long beaches, meet like minded people or simply spend some quality time with yourself. We love that you see what we try to create for our guests. We believe in creating an experience that centers around the natural beauty and resources unique to Tulum. We use natural materials and resources to create simple yet beautiful rooms, a menu full of fresh delicious food and an atmosphere that feels more like staying at a friends beach house than a hotel. We love hosting guests like yourself and do not hesitate to come back again!

I don’t know where to begin… Amansala changed my life. I came to Tulum alone from Chicago for 10 days. I was welcomed and helped with luggage right away when I arrived. I travel with my little schnauzer dog and have had so many problems in past with people not accommodating us. The staff accepted Carmine and went out of their way to make sure his food was stored in freezer for me (prescribed fresh frozen)
Every morning there were bicycles available to take out so I could get my morning workout in! Breakfast is amazing… they serve tea and coffee at 5:30am and then have little buffet of fresh fruits, yogurt, and different egg options! You can sit by the ocean inside their restaurant or by the beach!
I actually stayed here twice and canceled my air bnb at Villa I had bc I loved the hotel so much and the whole staff! Both rooms I had were amazing! Hot water, strong water pressure, no bugs, plenty of storage for cloths, extremely comfortable beds where I’ve gotten some of the best sleep I’ve had in years, bed linens are high end made, mayan honey soaps in each room that smell and make your skin feel great and room stayed very cold with or without purchasing 24-7 air conditioning!
There is a boutique shop connected to the front of the property and you can find some of Tulum’s best jewelry and handmade cloths there as well as copal, and some beauty products!
There hasn’t been a day in the last two weeks since my stay at Amansala where I don’t think about a few of the staff members there. Juan helped me with so much during my stay! He really made my trip extra special just by being so kind and talking every afternoon before I would go lay by beach. He made sure I was ok during my stay and I appreciate the help with translation to some of the restaurant staff!
There are a bunch of activities listed on a board in the kitchen area, which none I took place in unfortunately and regretting it. Carlo runs bikini boot camp and beach walks and he is another staff member that I adore along with his two pups! Sorry to leave a couple more staffs names that I don’t remember. The girl at front desk that checked me in first stay and the gentleman that checked me into room with patio! Thank you!
I highly recommend Amansala! I did meet the owner Melissa and I want to thank her personally for opening such a great place! You are so kind, your work very hard and it shows! I will be back to Tulum soon and of course will be staying at Amansala again! Juan, Carlo and Melissa… thank you for leaving such an imprint on my heart and mind!
