Really don’t know what all of the top reviews are about. Maybe people are easily pleased. I thought the hotel was very average and the building is dated and due a facelift. Don’t be fooled by the pictures. Looks lovely in the pictures but there’s quite a few tacky parts. The large pool could do with renewing as well as the indoor pool. My room looked nothing like the picture which was to my annoyance. If you want a lounger by the pool then be prepared to have to get up and half 6 in the morning as everyone gets up really early putting towels on beds! Someone should of been stopping people doing this!! The food was very average and the buffet served practically the same evening meals every night. Not enough variety for kids either. The breakfast went cold after 2 mins as wasn’t warm enough to start with. Some of the staff were miserable and quite rude at times. And if you book one of the 2 restaurants make sure you do it on the app not at reception where I was told to book it. When I turned up at the restaurant for my evening meal they didn’t even have my name on the list. And if you are half board you don’t get the full menu for the Italian restaurant. If you want something that’s not on the set menu you have to pay extra for it!! Apart from the above I still had quite a nice week there. Just a few things they need to change and this place could be a top holiday location.

Hotel's Favorite
We have just returned from a two week holiday at this wonderful hotel, we visited with our daughter (Debbie Layzell) and her partner as I needed their help due to mobility issues. On arrival they asked about the room, as it was a long walk from the lifts Reception were excellent and said they would sort it the following day which they did giving us rooms on the 1st floor with walk in showers and less walking distance they were brilliant. As soon as we arrived at the Buffet Restaurant we were taken to a table near to the buffet with less walking distance for me this continued during the duration of our stay. Hygiene standards were excellent in all areas with Masks, gloves and hand sanitizer freely available in all public areas. All the a la carte restaurants were very good best steak we have ever had in any hotel The rooms were serviced daily and maintained exceptionally well, we were allocated four beach towels which were changed regularly. The premium drinks were excellent in all bars and whilst service was a bit slow initially this was soon rectified we saw new staff being trained whilst we were there. Vanghellis & Romana looked after us with drinks exceptionally well and were always very friendly asking how we were. My daughter always dealt with the queries on Reception but she couldn’t praise them enough. The holiday was just what me and my husband needed and we felt very safe throughout our stay. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and can’t wait to return again in the future. Thank you so much to all the staff who looked after us very well.

This is a very good hotel and with a few changes it could be excellent. We stayed for 10 nights in mid July with our 3 teenage children. We stayed on an All Inclusive basis in Superior rooms. The good bits: The thing that really makes this hotel above everything else is the staff, they are incredibly helpful and if you have an issue they will go out of their way to resolve it. Our rooms were large and clearly newly refurbished with newly appointed bathrooms with walk in shower etc The superior rooms gave us access to different restaurants for breakfast. We ate breakfast every day in Leda (other one for adults only) and the food was very good The pool bar, Leda and Adonis restaurants very good for lunch, good selection of food and the 2 A la Carte restaurants were also very good for dinner The hotel is vast, but this means you don’t feel cramped The location is good, rooms cleaned well etc The bits that need improving: The main restaurant is dreadful, it looks and feels like a giant school canteen and doesn’t give the chilled holiday vibe you’d like! You also can’t get anything to drink other than beer, wine and soft drinks here - so you couldn’t have a g&t for example - ridiculous. Sun beds around the pool are taken by at least 6am and then largely unoccupied for lots of the morning - again ridiculous There is no beach here and you can’t really swim in the sea. This isn’t the fault of the hotel but some of their pictures are misleading The evening entertainment could do with a bit more variety - it’s basically a different type of singer each night which was ok to start with but became a bit boring after a while and certainly didn’t interest teenage kids! On the whole we had a brilliant holiday, ate out a couple of nights, visited the water park and hired a car to explore the area, go out for lunch etc. and we are pleased we chose this hotel.

We stayed at the Athena Beach in July for 14 nights as a family of 3 and had a truly enjoyable holiday. I researched the hotels in the area quite throughly before choosing this one and wasn’t disappointed. We stayed All inclusive and loved the choice of restaurants, we could use the buffet restaurant every evening, which had great choices and lovely staff, Temo you are a star! We could also eat in the two Al La Carte restaurants twice per week which was amazing, Adonis restaurant was definitely my favourite for both lunch and dinner. We also enjoyed a few lunches in the Beach Bar, great staff in here, who definitely work hard as it’s busy all day with food, drink and ice cream orders. There was a great choice of drinks available and delicious ice cream, the chocolate was the best I’ve tasted. And the Greek/Cyprus nights are not to be missed, amazing food and brilliant entertainment. Our room was well equipped and spacious enough for the three of us, we did have one issue with our room, but spoke to the Manager and things were rectified. Christos and all the staff are working really hard to ensure the hotel operates as well as it did pre Covid, the whole hospitality industry has suffered greatly and it’s no easy job to replace and train staff and ensure high standards are maintained, but I believe the team at the Athena Beach are doing a great job. There are plentiful sun loungers around the hotel, at the pool, in the gardens and at the beach, we never had an issue getting beds during our stay, even though the hotel was full. The pool areas are lovely, we also enjoyed the water slides and swimming in the sea from the pontoon. The sea could be choppy, but we just checked the lifeguards flag every day to check if it was safe. We didn’t notice the water being dirty or littered as mentioned in other reviews. There’s a real mix of entertainment on throughout the day and in the evenings, pretty much something for everyone and the team work very hard. We enjoyed the tasting events by the pool each day and the singers in the evening. There’s a lovely coastal walk from the hotel, left along to the wee church, right into Paphos, we walked to the church most days. Paphos harbour is worth a wander round, nice shops and cafes/restaurants. We also visited the waterpark which is half a mile along the road, a fabulous day out, really clean and safe, fun for all ages. This is a lovely hotel and I’m sure we’ll return again in the future.

This is NOT a beach hotel. You have sea, you have sand, view of a beach but you cannot actually use the beach. Somebody had a genius idea to cover the seaside rocks with construction grade sand. So the sand actually finishes at the water line, and it is not possible to get into the sea from the "beach" due to slippery rocks underwater and strong waves. And the actual sand is dirty - fags, straws, pieces of food etc. in the dusty sand between the sun loungers. One pier has extremely slippery (grown with algae) steps, another floating one would give you a sea sickness before you get to the end of it. This is not hotels fault (although as a big company they should care as it will affect their business), but the sea is also polluted with small (1-2mm) floating pieces of plastic - it just floats on the water surface between the wave breaking piers and you have to swim about 50m to the clean waters, and then swim back to the pier through floating rubbish again. Literally there is a sea but you cannot swim in it. Otherwise clean hotel, well recovered post-covid, good food, facilities and service, good adult only section. Don't go there if you want to swim in the sea, other (also polluted with plastic) sandy beaches are 5-10 min walk on both sides. 10/10 for the hotels marketing team for the sandy beach pictures which sold this holiday to me, but only 3 stars as there is no possibility to swim in that sea. Top view in the picture below is the actual beach, bottom is hotel's marketing. Spot the difference.

The set up for families is simply AWFUL! We were disappointed with every aspect of it and we asked to leave as soon as we arrived pretty much but there was no space for us to move hotels. The worst part was the evening kids disco & evening entertainment which was inside the hotel in a conference room. It was the most depressing room, full of 80’s wicker furniture all lined up. All the windows shut and covered with massive curtains….. Who wants that? No-one wants that. No - one wants to sit inside every evening when they’re on holiday in a conference room, with no sea air, no view, no decent drinks. But there was nothing else to do for our 5 & 7 year olds, so every night we were forced to sit in the hideous room with the rest of the families. This is the experience as a family you look forward to most when on holiday, the evening entertainment, sitting outside relaxing with a drink while they play and join in to the singing and dancing - this hotel have simply ruined it!!! The people doing the entertainment were OK as well, but who wants to be shoe horned into a CONFERENCE ROOM every evening on holiday?! You need to change this! Everyone was complaining. Our air conditioning was broke for most of the holiday and someone was in our room every day trying to fix it. It’s simply unacceptable when you’re paying so much to not have basic working facilities. We had to make such a fuss as well to get listened to. The food was mediocre. The meat was nice, and breakfast pancakes etc were OK and freshly cooked but everything else was very meh. We usually put weight on as the food is so good on holiday, especially with an al inclusive - we didn’t here as it just wasn't that nice. No indulgence , just basic food. They made no effort for children in the restaurants (unsurprisingly) , it was chips & chicken nuggets and you were lucky if they had those. When we asked for things ‘plain’ they’d still come laden with black pepper and spices which just got annoying. No one listened. The desserts were v disappointing- just full on cream, no variety and just done v badly. Drinks were very limited and the local wine was v v bad. The ‘ultra all-inclusive’ made no difference- don’t bother. Kids Club - no massive effort was made with this for the children, it was a room where they could play and draw etc, but no proper activities were put on. Our children only went because they made friends with some other children or we’d have struggled to get them to go in because they said it was so boring. As parents the kids entertainment is a huge part of the holiday and reason we book a hotel. It’s the only 2hrs break you get. This facility needs to be addressed. Beach - the beach at the hotel is not suitable for swimming, there’s also no sand just rocks. The pictures they show you are fake and you will not find it at the hotel. Theres a jetty you can jump off but it’s v choppy and not safe for children. We found a public beach about 10 mins walk from the hotel. Turn right down the path along the beach and you’ll find it. That was much better & safer for swimming. We waited 3 years to go on holiday due to covid, we saved every penny, we upgraded, we went ultra all inclusive. Overall it was not worth it, I cried on more than one occasion because I was so disappointed with this hotel for our family and felt like we’d just thrown away our money on trying to create memories that didn’t happen. I feel very angry this hotel denied us of the holiday we thought we were booking. Don’t book, don’t make the same mistake, find somewhere else unless you want to sit in a conference room every evening in a ‘death chair!’ as we joked.

Just back from wonderful 11 day break all inclusive with my 8 year old. The hotel is Covid focussed with high cleanliness and everyone is asked to wear masks indoors. The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent at all the restaurants. There are loads of other good things I can write but will share the negatives. Sun beds by the pools - you have to go down between 5 and 7am to reserve. Night flight home - Strongly recommend you book late checkout in advance with your tour operator. Tried for week to get extended stay for extra 60 euros but got told to check 24 hours before leaving as it had to be approved by senior management not reception. They could not give us extension and offered us complimentary shower courtesy room instead which was dirty and disgusting. I was told clean towels and soap provided but we had to use beach towels and own soap. As part of my all inclusive I was entitled to 3 x A la carte meals which were wonderful. The steaks are amazing. My son only had the kids menus each time and I later discovered there 3 x a la carte meals available for him too. (6 for our room in total but this was not made clear from the start). When I tried to book 2 of his a la carte meals for our final night. Reception were not very helpful and told me to come back next day which was too late for our final night. They are very friendly and happy but allergic to problems with the standard answer come back tomorrow or we will put in the book. There was also one night where our door lock did not work and reception accused my son of playing with it which was not the case. The night manager Janus was brilliant and fixed the problem. I would recommend courses on customer services / own the customer for the reception team. The General Manager Christou is very friendly and thanked everyone on our coach for staying before departing. I would recommend speaking directly with Christou the General Manager if you are not happy with anything so it does not ruin your stay. Have decided not name staff on the reception teams The hotel is amazing but there are few niggles which annoyed me.

We returned today from a week of family vacation (4 families) in this lovely hotel. All the good words can and should be said about it - the location, the cleanliness, the food, the facilities - all are excellent! But the most important of all is the manager ATHANASIOS KARAKOS and his staff!! Nice, warm people, attentive to every request and need we had (and had), all with a smile and with desire. We had a difficult experience the second night - my wife was hit by a moving vehicle on the road in front of the hotel. The hotel staff, and the manager himself, went out of their way so that we wouldn't feel alone in a foreign country in such a difficult situation, and helped with everything: they called the police and an ambulance for us, called a taxi for me to the hospital (at their expense), ordered crutches for her to spend the night at my request, called and inquired about her well-being every day and every moment until that we left - starting with the manager himself who calmed down and gave us the feeling that he was there for us, through the dining room employees and ending with the reception employees. Everyone was charming and caring and allowed our vacation to continue with pleasure despite the difficult case. A huge thank you to them for that! For us, this is the true test of caring and humanity.

We have just returned from our holiday to the Athena Beach hotel and this is the first time we have ever left a review. We visited as a family and stayed for two weeks. The hotel is lovely, one massive pool and a smaller kids pool. My daughter learnt to swim here and even enjoyed going off the jetty to the sea. The location is perfect and the best thing about our stay was the kids club staff, special mention to Paloma, Valeria, Louise, Marta, Lorenzo and anyone else we forgot to mention. They work so hard all day long entertaining the kids or putting on exercise classes and then spend the evening doing the disco and shows which my 7 year old loved. Having an experience like this really makes a holiday and we were so grateful for their efforts!
