When visiting this beautiful area, it's well worth visiting this great pub. We ate there on three occasions, there are nightly specials as well as a standard menu and a small but adequate wine list and a good selection of local beers. The food is freshly cooked and we certainly had no complaints. The atmosphere Is very friendly and each... More

We were most pleasantly surprised by the quality of food at this inn a tiny town - I had a salad of figs, prosciutto, and goat cheese which was fabulous! After a false start (we had trouble finding a place to perch), we were seated in the dining room (which is quite small) and the wait staff was friendly and... More

Great location; reasonably priced; friendly and helpful staff; clean and comfortable room; good beer; and a cracking breakfast. Can't fault it. I've stayed in a few places in the Langdale valley and this is by far the best.

We happened upon this pub one Tuesday lunchtime. We sat outside as the weather was pleasant, having a drink whilst mulling over the menu. Eventually one of us plumped for the beef in ale pie with fries and veg, the other two of us had a bowl of soup each and shared a hot mozzarella and tomato sandwich and another... More

We dined outside as the sun dipped below the fells. Great selection of real ales and the menu was very appetising - my partner particularly enjoyed her local Cumbrian Pate and my Pork Stroganoff was excellent. a nice welcome at the bar with some friendly conversation to be had. We finished as the dusk light was fading and a few... More

Just returned from a weekend break at the Britannia. Well recommended, excellent and lovely location. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Food in the restaurant was also excellent, well presented and wholesome as required in the lakes. The bed was extremely comfortable and we are now looking if we can obtain the same duvet and covers! The weather was also... More

Some friends of mine come here quite regular and recommended this as a great place to explore the Langdale region. The location is fab and is so central to everything you may want to do, walking, Fell running or just lazing around. Our double room was fine although the security light at the rear of the Inn kept switching on... More

We stayed at the Quarrymans Cottage, owned by the Britannia and rented through Heart of the Lakes. We had a brilliant week, the cottage is charming, very well equipped and excellently located, really can't fault it at all. To top it off its next to the fabulous Britannia, our favourite place to eat and drinks in the Lakes, we've eaten... More

Well worth stopping off for a drink, a pause and a meal. Friendly staff and an excellent location. Head off to the right, over the bridge turn right to the quarry and you have a really nice walk along the bank of the river ending in the next fine pub.

Been staying here now for about 5/6 years on an annual basis with a gang of pals on our annual 'Ales & Hike Tour'. Top place. Great rooms, great beer, great breakfast and great evening meals in the bar areas. On a warm, dry night sit outside taking in the views and on a cold, wet one step inside the... More
