The bungalows were cleaned every day (sheets and towels changed etc).
All in all we really enjoyed our stay here!
You can enjoy a bit of snorkeling, very safe for children as éventuellement on high tide, it's never deep nor dangerous.
The bungalow was clean and spacious. We had an outside shower, which was very special!
The restaurant on the beachfront was fantastic, we had breakfast there and the food was excellent. The staff Lee, Sen, Tutu and I can't remember the ladies name, were so helpful and friendly and made our stay even more special!
There are beachfront massages and pedicures which are great. The beach itself is clean, it does get busy, but There is always space, much nicer than Chaweng beach.
We look forward to coming back here, it was truly paradise😀
- we wanted to experience an open-air shower/bathroom
- have breakfast including in room-rate
- the location on a beach and close to some lively areas more are of the island
- website, reviews looks good and the price seem to be on par with the offerings
We decided to split our week on Koh Samui staying first at Promtsuk Buri and at another hotel more isolated on the island. Little did we know, this hotel will be in our memories forever.
After coming from Bangkok with the NOKair combi ticket, arriving by ferry (Lomprayah) we were obligated to take the taxi. Of course we already knew, that is quite a distance from the pier to the hotel and the minute you get off. You’ll be asked by many taxi drivers to hop on their cab. Almost grabbing your luggage’s in order for you to follow. Since they hold a fix rate card in their hand
( overpriced!) Negotiating is out of your option. However we already expected this so the damage or the odd feeling of getting ripped off with the price, wasn’t a dent in our start of our Thai Koh Samui adventure. Beside we didn’t want to get a songthaew with our luggage’s and you may probably not sa ve that much either as songthaew driver’s will always try to get the most out of you too! (Not all the time though, but more will follow on this)
We bite the bullet took the taxi and payed the only and most expensive taxi rate during our entire time in Thailand. The journey takes about 30 to 40 min and you really get to see a lot of the island and its interesting traffic.
Arrival:
Once we arrived we had to wait inside for a while, since the owner/reception was busy. However our request for some water was granted by a friendly staff with limitation on her English. No complaints though since it was an a/c area and they provided a computer with free internet. Also lots of brochure so we used the waiting time going through excursions and let everyone know how much warm it was there;-) (mind you it was freezing in Europe)
Room:
After we got checked in, our jaw dropped when taken to our room. The location of our bungalow was perfect. Lovely views from our own veranda, spacious bedroom with a KING size bed. It’s been a while since I’ve been on one when staying abroad. Usually only in United States or the Resorts in the Caribbean.
Great working a/c and our personal favorite: The open-air shower. Spacious, breeze, just magnificent. We couldn’t believe it. After we sank in, we went to check out the area and beach and knew that it’s going to be a wonderful start of our vacation. Even it would rain the entire time or staff/breakfast was lousy. But Promtsuki didn’t deliver neither. Just pure island love and hospitality.
Good pressure, lovely rain shower. Be aware that if you find it odd doing your business in an open
air toilet;-) or shower, this hotel/pension is not for you! You can check in next door where it is more a hotel/resort style. The room was always clean, fresh and just amazing that you can hear and feel the breeze while showering. Listening or seeing the birds flying around. We loved the fact that it wasn’t a big scale resort and you get to start knowing other guests too.
The hammock is lovely during dawn or dusk or just when want to stare at the starts at night! The hotel doesn’t have a pool and happy that it doesn’t the beach is only few meters away!
Let our pictures speak for themselves!
The beach:
While it’s a small soft white(ish) sandy beach perfect to lay to work on the tan and the color of water is lovely. I found it less fascinating when swimming since it is full of rocks. So a water shoe is a must. The beach can get full but not packed compared to Chaweng Beach( also a nice beach and close by) However most are day sun bidders and will go after getting to red;-)
No beach vendors trying to sell you anything and found one of the cheapest beach massage look for the sign and do tip if you are satisfied)
Restaurant/on –sight dining:
Since we were tired after the long trip and missed the breakfast we decided to dine at the restaurant of the hotel. At first we couldn’t believe how good priced it was. Especially compared to the other isolated we will stay after this, where the price was twice as high!
The hotel cooks its own food fresh and it served with a smile or laid back relax owner. (Sorry to forgot all your names) And when the next day we got breakfast, we were sold! You can choose as many times you like, from healthy to unhealthy options. Always until the lunch time. And I have a fast metabolism! The restaurant does close at 5pm, however the restaurant next door also serves delicious plates but a bit more expensive. But you can’t go wrong.
There are so many restaurant and to fit any budget. In walking distance you’ll find plenty on foot when heading towards Lamai.
The staff is wonderful even if they had a bad start of the day, they’ll eventually cool down and show their friendly side again. From experience if you treat others as one of your own they’ll treat the same back. However every once a while you’ll need to be assertive when you had enough, with hagglers, sellers etcetera. We didn’t mind getting approach so many times to enter a shop. Be polite but assertive always worked for us. Be advised!
Transportation:
If you are not going to hire a motor/scooter. Be ready to spend a lot of money on songthaew or taxi. While you’ll get the hang of negotiating. It will in the end cost you. Especially at night. However the clubbing/main area of Lamai or Chaweng are close by. Fare will always vary! We walked one day from Buri to Chaweng while it gave us a kick of adventure (we both are young and in shape) It is a quite a distance in the hot sun, crazy traffic as you on the road. There is no pedestrian walkway. Even some locals though we were crazy to do that. Of course we took the songthaew back. Most of the drivers know where it is! But since a two days of taxi’s and songthaew we decided to rent a motor/scooter and was the best time ever. We explore almost the entire island by motor. Stopping and some secluded beaches. Did our own tours/exercusion and dine at many different local restaurant where not much tourist comes! Truly Samui style adventure.
Be advise that if you haven’t ride one yet or not experienced with crazy traffic it might get the best out of you. But never doubt your driving skills. (we both own a motor/scooter back home in Holland the land of bicycles so it was for us piece of cake)
If needing to stock up (and do not want to buy from the almost every mile a minimarket) and also have dirt cheap lunch/dinner. Hop on a songthaew/taxi/scooter and head to Tesco Lotus (the only one on the island) (for Americans it’s exactly like a Wallmart or K-mart) where you can buy anything you need and also have delicious cheap lunch or dinner. The food court works with a credit system. You buy a certain amount in Baht and after your done paying everything by swiping the card they give you, you’ll get the amount back. Also tourist can get the VAT tax return after doing shopping. Look for the sign at the customer service.
Promtsuki Buri motto is for those who wants privacy…and it truly gives you that. IT’s a small resorts with the laid back, relax feeling. Gorgeous grounds, lovely cabins, amazing staff and wonderful beach. Keep up with the wonderful service and all the best!
I did A LOT of research before coming here. All other hotels, even 4 stars hotels did not get overall great ratings. What was important for me: a great beach, close to some shops but still quiet and no party around. I am very grateful for having found this place. They offer massages next door with the view over the beach and ocean, they serve great breakfast à la carte, you can rent scooters, the beach is awesome and the service in the resort is very nice and always with a nice smile.
If I come again to Koh Samui, I will for sure stay here!
The breakfast is good and people are nice.
The quality of the service is high but I would suggest to improve the service providing also the pickup from airport/port.
Often I have experienced the Excellence Awards to be a good indication that something special is going on that might be worth trying, sometimes I like the experience and sometimes I just don’t get it or it does not really ring my bell. That's why I went to Promtsuk in the first place 18 months ago.
Promtsuk Buri is perfect for me. Great standard of accommodation on the beach with beautiful well cared for tropical gardens. I love the little beach, having breakfast in their open air restaurant on said beach in the morning before the crowds arrive, I love taking a swim far out to sea in the evening after the crowds have gone away and I love going somewhere else when the day crowds arrive.
It’s a little out of the way about halfway between the two action centers on the island so own transport is really recommended. By the time you add up taxi fares and other forms of community transport I find it is cheaper and easier to hire a car pick up and drop off at the airport, say 900thb a day. Make sure you have excess gap insurance in your travel insurance and stay away from motor scooters unless you have a death wish and want this to be the most expensive holiday you will ever take.
Other features are a cold refrigerator full of ,free cold bottled water, not rip off priced drinks for that late midafternoon /night/early morning thirst needs, good housekeeping, private porch to sit on , look at the sea, Read , Inspect Russian arriving day trippers, close to Tesco for other food and product needs, lovely simple healthy breakfast included, lay backed staff who’s patience must be tested on a daily basis.
Very hard to get a booking at times because those who come tend to want to come back. Moderate price but worth it.
Never before awarded full marks but after three visits this one gets my first 5 stars
Through browsing on “ trip advisor” I came across “Promtsuk Buri” And the reviews were wonderful! Through reservations officer Kannika Ms. at kohsamui.com That advertise the Hotel and many many others in Koh samui I booked the Garden Court Bungalow and the Beach Front Bungalow. Everything went smoothly and our credit card was charged the amount of 30.100THB ( 700 euros). Excitement was high and we were all counting the days to our vacation time on February 2011!
Unfortunately, approximately 1.5 months before we were supposed to go, my father experience a small heart attack and was advised not to travel in the next six months. It was a hassle however I succeeded to cancel all flights and different hotels accept “Promtsuk Buri”.
They didn't respond to any of my e-mails, I also tried to contact the hotel directly by phone and was promised several times to get an answer to my cancellation request in the following 48 hours. That never happened. Up-to-date I haven’t got a reaction or financial refund.
- my first advice to my fellow traveler’s - never book a hotel directly through their own website - but use the service of other booking websites services, where you can cancel your reservation at any time by a push of a button.
Secondly, our family holiday will go forward upcoming February and I’m hoping to get the hotel reaction by writing this review.. Because in any other way.. it didn’t happen !
The place is absolutely fabulous. The bungalow was a fantastic place, the garden is a paradise! Room very clean, bungalow very close to the beach and good people running the resort.
If I had to warn about something that could be inconvenient for the people wanting to spend sometime in Promtsuk Buri are the following:
1. Irregular internet connection. There were days that I could not use internet at all. I had a bad time, I was on holidays but I had to pay to my employees , and I got delayed for one day!! This is something that got really on my nerves!
2. The shower and the toilet is placed in the interior of the bungalow but it has no ceiling so when you are having a shower you see the sky or treetops, until here a real dream but what happens if it rains? Basically that you can use the toilet because the floor is wet and the toilet paper can't be used.
3. The resort is located in the way where plains are about to land. So from very early in the morning (if the wind blows south) the plain will pass over the resort and you can hear them.
4. There is no connection by foot with Chaweng. If you plan to move northwards by foot, forget it!! It's dangerous. If you want to move southwards to Lamai beach you can do it but the entrance to the beach isn't obvious. Keep in mind that most of the resorts in koh Samui are private and you can not always get access.
Again, if you are looking for a resort in Koh Samui where you need or expect to relax, Promtsuk Buri is the place. However, if you need to work or connect via Internet, this is not the resort, it's not reliable!!
