This comes late but worth the mention. In January this year I and other business associates planned a trip to Southern Tanzania and one of our stops was at the Selous. We organised the trip with Philbert and our first 3 days we set base at the Selous Mapumziko Lodge. We stayed at the nice new tents with views over the great and mighty Rufiji river. We were well taken care of with great meals as we explores the Selous Game Reserve. This was one very rainy period but the warmth and hospitable staff at the camp kept us well fed and warm during the rainy nights as we sat by the fireplace. This was my first trip south of Tanzania and we will sure be returning once all this is over.
What a stunning place to stay, traditional huts with western comforts. We did a sunset boat trip, which was just fantastic. Food was delicious for our whole stay. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Filbert and his team are just so lovely. Then a short trip (10 mins) to Selious game reserve, what a fantastic day, seeing so much wild life all in its natural surroundings. Rama our driver has so much knowledge about the wild life and the plant life. He answered all our questions and was a joy to spend time with,he is a real asset to the team. It was the trip of a lifetime so many fantastic memories. Thank you Filbert and your team
I visited with a few friends and we stayed for 2 nights. We started with a river safari thinking we’d only see hippo and crocs, but the number of brightly coloured birds astounded us. Our guide was knowledgeable and patient and we were treated to a lovely sunset. The following day we went on a 9 hour safari round the game reserve. We saw it all (aside from leopards which only come out in the rain, so that was a good thing!). As a finale about an hour before we were due to leave our guide spotted elusive elephants which no one had seen all day. He turned the vehicle on a sixpence and we went off on hot pursuit. We we weren’t disappointed and saw six of them - eating and frolicking in the lake. We were also “treated” to a tantrum by one of the bulls who wasn’t very happy with us, but our excellent guide for the day, Rama, managed us out of what we thought was a tight spot. The food is excellent, especially the pumpkin soup, and staff really attentive. Rooms are fantastic and really give you a taste of the jungle. There are hot water and European loos too! The photo is the view from breakfast - baboon just walked by!…
A group of 9 friends came here and had the most incredible stay. Filbert and his staff really looked after us and the accommodation were quirky high end mud huts with all that you need. The boat safari was a dream.... Watching the sunset and Hippos wallowing in the river. Then the day trip safari unbelievable... We saw... Crocodiles Zebra Lions Impala Giraffes Snakes Monkies Hippos So many lovely African animals And the most amazing elephants I've ever seen were right by our truck by the waters edge. Truly incredible and worth every penny.
Both the lodges and aspecially the tent in the center, next to Rufiji rivier, were great. Staff very thoughtfull and attentive. Good beds and sanitary. Great cook. Free WiFi. Whenever you consider to go to Tanzania and Selous National Park, take thuis place into consideration. It is marvellous !!!
