Catherine’s cottages are set on a small private vineyard estate, just an hour’s drive west from Budapest and are open all year round. Perfect for city escapes, with or without the kids, romantic getaways, weekends away with the dog, working away from the office, introducing visiting friends to Hungary or discovering the beautiful unspoiled Hungarian countryside for yourself. The British owned estate lies on the edge of the Vertes National park, just west of Budapest in Fejer County, famous for its wine country, horses, monasteries and Lake Balaton.
Friends had Reccommended Catherine’s cottages when we mentioned we were going to Budapest for a city break and shared that this was a perfect peaceful rural antidote to the busyness of the city and only an hour away. There are 9 cottages in total, nestled within the gentle sloping hillside surrounded by lavender fields and vineyards and each cottage is so tastefully decorated and fully equipped for a luxury stay. Graham & Catherine are such generous hosts and filled with knowledge of the best local eateries, patisserie and gelato and their team are so warm and welcoming. We stayed at The Eco and had use of an elegant pool with luxury sun beds and beautiful planting all around. Our outdoor space had dining table and chairs and luxury sun loungers as well as BBQ. In the morning a luxury breakfast hamper arrived crammed full of local produce and Catherine’s delicious home made granola and local seasonal melons. So many beautiful touches including Catherine’s vineyard wine grown on the estate and her farmed lavender created into fragrant toiletries in the bathroom. If you want somewhere really special and to wow someone special take them here and then relax and enjoy the view and the gentle hum of the countryside.

Soooo peaceful and beautiful and superbly decorated. We had a private pool! Will definitely be back for another weekend of pure bliss. There is everything you need- enough coffee, tea and milk, a fire ready to light.. And the best assortment of books ever!! Oh.... Did I mention the macarons?! !!

A photo of the gorgeous gardens at Catherine's Cottages is the new screensaver on my iPad. The property is truly some of the most beautiful and peaceful I have visited. From the precious rescue dogs (Snoopy is a love), to the fresh baked bread and streusel and tastiest tomato soup on the planet, the experience at Catherine's is very special. The scenery is Napa Valley but with no structures or cars impeding the view. I live in the MidWestern part of the US and very much enjoyed Budapest but the greatest impetus for a return trip to Hungary would be the opportunity to again be a guest at Catherine's Cottages.

I was really looking forward to come here, as I heard so much about this place. It was a surprise weekend that I spent here with my boyfriend, we really enjoyed the little cottage, the scenery, loved the fireplace (it was a rainy, rather cold weekend) and the walks around the area. The staff was super kind and welcoming, showed us around and checked us in fast and professionally. For the price paid I would definitely expect a bit more amenities available or at least breakfast.. We received a kind welcome note and a bottle of their house wine, but it was a hassle for us to bring our own food for the weekend and prepare our meals... There are no options in the nearby to go out to eat really... Agai, we enjoyed our time here, the calmness and tranquility was well deserved but for this price I really would include some meal.

We had a great time at Catherine's cottages-there is no need to travel far from Budapest and even pick up could be arranged directly from Budapest which is very convenient for those who don’t have a car. Cottages are located in a small village slightly up on a hill among grape vineyards and fruit trees. Cottages were a great place for us because we craved quiet cozy atmosphere yet accessible and with tastefully decorated rooms. There is a beautiful view from the cottages overlooking far into horizon with no single house on the way, which is rarely seen in Hungary's countyside. We stayed at Kennedy House, cute cottage, and I believe that view is the best from there! We cooked and grilled at the cottage as it was well equipped with all appliances you need but if you want to take a break from cooking there are few vineyards around there and we were told with wine tasting you will get a nice dinner served by local people as well. Place is very green and in September we were tempted to gather fruits hanging right from the trees above our heads. There is gorgeous pool open for cottages’ visitors. Owners are very nice and friendly British couple living in Hungary. So, it is Hungarian and English language friendly place! If you are tired of Hungarian style countryside places and busy hotels this is perfect place to be! Place is kids and dogs friendly, but cottages located in a distance from each other, so you won’t be bothered.
Sorry that my review sounds like an advertisement but I really loved the place and wanted to share!:) to prove it- one big minus- picking all the fruits from the trees you are risking to have upset stomach!

We spent a week in the Eco Has and after a stressful drive down we relaxed the second we walked in. The fire was lit, the room cosy with candlelight and a fantastic meal ready for us.
Ibi made sure we were incredibly well looked after all week, helping us with bookings where our lack of Hungarian hindered us - she is loveliest, kindest person in a country full of incredibly friendly people!
The baby facilities were fantastic and cot with bedding and bath wrap all available for our stay.
We enjoyed some great walks and runs in the doorstep and we're surrounded by lavender, vineyards and walnut and fruit trees. It's a gorgeous setting.

Catherines Cottages is far from your regular hotel hospitality. It is that wonderful homely hospitality that makes you feel so relaxed and loved. The cottages are beautiful, my wife and I stayed in the Eco Haz. We were greeted by Karcsi and Ibi who are the most amazing people you will meet. Nothing is too much for them and you can see the joy in thier faces in simply welcoming people and making sure they enjoy thier stay. So genuine, just like home. The breakfast basket was amazing, presented so well and with home baked bread, tomatoes from the garden and homemade jam (we bought more when we left so we can relive the weekend again and again). Dinner can also be arranged with a local winemaker just a few hundred meters down the road. Karcsi kindly walked us down and we arrived to a candle lit table with homecooked food as we tasted all the wines. Personal explinations of each one and a great insight into a family business with such passion. All we could hear was the insects at night and look up to see a star filled sky. I think I could honestly write a book about how great this place was but it is best if you just go. I know I will return some day and will be telling all my friends and family. Thank you so much, Catherine you should be proud of what you have created and to Ibi and Karcsi thank you so much again.

We had such a relaxing time here in Kennedy Haz- a two bed room cottage positioned back from the quiet road. We both thought the cottage was stunning- not to mention the view! We loved all the little touches in the cottage- like the candles, fresh coffee, and home grown fruit and veg. The barrel shower was great and it felt like a real home. Being able to sample the fruit was also really special and all the info in the welcome booklet was extremely useful and entertaining to read.
The pool area is luxurious and really comfortable, and Ibi and Karschi looked after us as if we were part of the family; so generous and giving- nothing was too much to ask. We would definitely return and bring out friends and family.
The bus ride from Budapest was really simple from the main bus terminal, and Karschi picked us up from the village. A really relaxing break in amazing accommodation. The personal touches are what really made it really unique.

We had the most memorable of times at your property. You have a blessing In Ibi & Karcsi! I think they have truly surpassed all expectations of hospitality we had & may God shower them with good health & happiness….The Eco Haz was everything we hoped for & my slight hesitation in making a choice such as this for a New Year’s weekend was so easily removed with your tastefully done, fully equipped place & the peace it gave us! What a refreshing break from the madness of city life!
I only wish I had done this in Summer (given a chance I will definitely make that happen), where we could have experienced the beauty of the outdoors as well. Lavender hills, hammocks and walks are a big miss I suppose! I finalized your place with Trip Advisor reviews & hence will do my bit there to spread the word around until I return to India in Feb.

We spent a romantic weekend at Catherine's last week. Im not a big review writer, but i simply must share a few thoughts, becouse it was such a unique trip. We chose the Eco house for our stay. The kindliness of the housekeepers Ibi and Karcsi, the tastefully decorated and fully equipped cosy little room, the home made dinner and breakfast, the walk in the sorrounding national park with the lovely little dogs Sisi and Snoopy and the special milieu all made that weekend simply amazing. I strongly suggest to any couple to visit this place, you will remember that trip for a lifetime! We surely will a few more times. Thank you for the weekend again! David
