Detailed Reviews
If you are looking for a place that is not touristy I assure you this is the place for you! My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our quiet and peaceful stay at Aurum Lodge. What an amazing experience. There are ample trails right in the backyard where you can go exploring & hiking. Everything from your own personal rock beach, water falls, hikes through mossy forests, and multiple places with lakefront views!
This property is 100% off the grid! With no small detail left unattended. Everything from power, water, compost, and even the septic system truly makes you rethink waste, repurposing, minimization, and our overall impact on our environment.
We arrived during Covid, and I fully anticipated utilizing two full cans of micro ban to disinfect and sanitize our two bedroom loft apartment. One look around with just how much everything is meticulously maintained I knew this was not necessary at all. Hands-down this is the cleanest and most maintained accommodation we have ever stayed at!
Everyone in our family agrees this is one of our favourite places on earth! Hats off to the amazing couple who designed every aspect and truly welcomed us into their beautiful home.

My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at Aurum Lodge recently. We're always looking for pet friendly places who are able to accommodate both us and our furry family member. The cabin we stayed in was bright, comfortable and exceptionally clean. The kitchen was well equipped, and owners Alan and Madeleine continually ensured we had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The location is phenomenal, and we really enjoyed exploring the trails nearby and spending time by the lake. Alan gave us some great suggestions for hikes nearby as we were interested in exploring the area. Overall we had a fantastic stay, and cannot wait to return again soon!

Four of us, hiking girl friends, stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment last weekend and it was exactly what we wanted. Spotlessly clean, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and warm duvets. And, of course, the perfect location in the middle of prime David Thomson Country hiking. Although we were off grid we still had everything we needed like hot showers (and the nice touch of 4 sets of different colored towels). Another nice touch for friends is that there were single beds in the 2 bedrooms. It was amazing to look out our windows at the stars at night and the mountains in the morning. We really can't recommend Aurum Lodge highly enough. Our hosts were gracious and helpful

Had a great stay in the cabin
It is a little piece of paradise. There was a major thunder storm right outside the cabin and The owner even came and checked up on us to make sure all was okay. There are some excellent trails right around the property to go for walks and down to the lake. We would definitely go back again

Be warned, there isn't much privacy here, as the picnic tables are right in the parking lot where everyone can watch you eat and it's definitely not a lakefront (about a 10 minute walk down to see the lake).
Also, we had a safety concern with the unit during a thunderstorm on the last night, as it looked like electrical arcing was occurring. We brought this up with the host and he did not offer for us any comfort in the moment. We ended up driving home in the thunderstorm, as we were terrified to stay in the unit. The host has been unkind and did not offer us any hospitality. However, we were told that as guests, we needed to ask for the hospitality (that's a definite first for me lol).
Edit: The host offered less half of a refund on the last night, but took that back due to the honest review I left.

If you are planning to visit this area, stay at the lodge! Everything is Perfect! The hosts are just great, so helpful and attentive, making sure that everything from the amount of food, to the temperature in the room is good! The setting is quiet and peaceful. The care about the environment and do everything to protect it. The lodge is spotless and the tidy up all the time. There is nothing negative to say about the lodge, and if you are lucky you will get Alan’s pancakes or even the cutest egg breakfast ever. Want a place to disconnect and enjoy the part of the world, this is it!

Over the years we have stayed at several lodges in the Canadian Rockies and by far our favourite is Aurum Lodge. During our many visits we have stayed in the cabins, the apartment and the lodge itself and all offer their unique experiences. All have been extremely well maintained and always spotless. The owners pride themselves on providing the best possible experience for their guests and will do whatever it takes to achieve that goal. Our most recent visit last week was no exception, we had another wonderful stay in the lodge.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Aurum Lodge. The place is beautiful, sustainable, off-grid, well-maintained, quiet, with great trails nearby. We stayed at one of the self-contained units, brought our groceries, made our food, and had a wonderful time. The cottage unit is super comfortable, modern, with all amenities that we needed. We particularly enjoyed the quiet and restful sleeps, sitting in front of the fireplace with a good book and the great trail system with espectacular views of mountains and lake. Friendly hosts, who keep their lodge well maintained and impeccably clean.

This lodge could be exceptional but having understanding that there are newish owners there is a LOT of things to be worked on and things take time, I believe that the price is, right now, for the quality of the accommodations is way too high. Renovate a room at a time and then refresh and finish before renting out. It honestly felt like a hostel not a "boutique" type of premises. The owner Sophie is lovely, seemingly overwhelmed and doing her best.
1: Fresh drywall, screws in room, unfinished feel to the whole place. Untidy, boxes in entrance way just not a good first impression as you walk in the door.
2: Cheap polyester sheets from Amazon basics. Does not give a bougie feel at all. Place was super hot, I understand it is solar powered so AC would be hard, but 100% cotton sheets would be nice.
3: Breakfast is included, which was very tasty. no complaints with this.
4: On arrival, no offer of coffee, water or anything. No coffee making facility, fridge or anything at all in the room. Again hostel feel. It is in the middle of nowhere so a welcome drink, snacks etc would have been conducive to help that feeling.
5: Evening meal. We just ate there the first night. Pasta with chicken and fig. Very tasty but a seriously small portion of food for $29. I would say a "starter" size. Eaten within 3 mins. I have no problem paying for great tasting food but don't undercut on portion sizes or charge $5 for a glass of coke from a bottle that is pretty flat. Chef is good but portion sizes need to be addressed. Bread should also be served. We were still hungry.
6: Bedside lamp not working, wardrobe doors didn't shut. The little things do matter. Bathroom adequate (shower only) but outdated.
This place could be great with design help, amenities etc

My husband and I have vacationed in many lodges in the Rockies over the years, but never have we experienced the level of excellence that Aurum Lodge provides. Our hosts, Madeleine and Alan, bring new meaning to hospitality with their genuine commitment to their guests’ holiday experience. The rooms are beautifully appointed with comfortable beds, bedding and a spectacular view, the meals are delicious and healthy, the table conversation is entertaining and hiking recommendations are plentiful! We felt like we had spent time with good friends after our four day visit! And their lovely Bernaise Mountain Dog, Aura, was a lovely hostess as well!

Hello,
We have five guest rooms in the lodge and two self-contained cottage units with kitchen, all designed for double occupancy. In addition, our self-contained two bedroom loft apartment with kitchen sleeps four to five (max).
The lodge is currently closed until further notice and we are not taking reservations there, but we do rent our self-contained units. If you are looking at a group of six to eight guests, you are looking at the two bedroom apartment plus one or both of the cottage units. You will need to bring groceries along and look after your own meals as there are no restaurants or stores anywhere close.
Rates depend on number of guests, units in question and length of stay.
There is a three night minimum stay requirement on all these units and we do not rent for shorter periods.
The apartment with four or five guests rents for C$ 269 or C$ 294 per night plus taxes (9%), whereas each cottage unit for two rents for C$ 209 per night plus taxes.
A four to six night stay is 15% less per night.
Hope this helps with your planning.
The number to the lodge is 403 721 2117..hope that helps!
