Located in remote Raja Ampat, Indonesia, our resort island is a true tropical hideaway. We are just south of the equator, hidden in an archipelago of uninhabited island. Our resort island is fringed with powder-white beaches and pristine coral reefs. With a maximum capacity of just 40 guests and a staff-to-guest ratio of 4 to 1, Misool offers exclusive adventure holidays and transformative experiences in pristine nature. Misool was built entirely of reclaimed tropical hardwoods, milled on site with our own portable sawmill. Our accommodations have been meticulously designed for comfort, privacy, and sustainability. All of our rooms feature Balinese-style open air bathrooms, air-conditioning, fresh hot and cold showers, mini-bars stocked with treats from around the archipelago, and handcrafted furniture and fittings. Your stay at Misool directly supports our numerous conservation initiatives in collaboration with our sister non-profit organisation, Misool Foundation.

We “Absolutely loved our time at Misool. Loved our amazing snorkle guides Fan & Rico. Wish I could remember our boat drivers name but he was so wonderful keeping an eye on us all. Appreciated the resort managers Mark and Sue who kept everything running smoothly. (Loved how Sue met our snorkle boat upon return) and was always available to help with any little thing. All the wonderful resort staff cooking the fabulous meals and going out of their way to keep us all happy. Mikki was great-keeping our sweet water cottage clean and tidy. And Sabine (the dive master) and Kai were so helpful. Helping me sort out what fish it was and which nudibranch. (I was the nerd searching the fish book everyday) and she took the time “every time” to help me figure it out. Also helped fix my reading glasses. The resort exceeded my expectations because of the “staff” and how true they are to “eco and sustainable tourism”. Well done Misool and thank you! Nikki

The worst part about Misool is the long slog to get there: trans Pacific flights, a red eye, and a long boat ride over unpredictably choppy waters. And still, it is well worth the slog. When you arrive you feel as though you’ve landed on a paradise surrounded by equally eager fellow travelers and greeted by friendly staff (most of whom are inspiring community members who’ve taken jobs in this hybrid hospitality-conservation position). This was our second time visiting over two calendar years and I don’t think it will be our last. Misool exceeds all expectations: the remote, quiet, unplugged location, the pristine waters, the abundance of marine life, the spectacular vistas, no shortage of multiple daily water activities, and the comfy accommodations. We’ve stayed in both South beach and in the lagoon overwater cottages and my husband and I are split about preferred location. On South beach you’ll have your own mini Robinson Crusoe experience with more quiet surrounds and a gorgeous beach to relax in after a long day of being out at the snorkel or dive sites. You’ll have to plan wisely to bring all that you need over to the dive center and to the lagoon side where all the action and meals happen. The benefit of the overwaters is that you are steps away from the dive center and restaurant—the nerve centers for guest activities on Batbitim. If you’re able to go, go. It’s an amazing and life changing experience. I already miss the 2-3x daily snorkel schedule and visits with all my favorite marine animals (hello beautiful giant Pacific and reef mantas!). The corals alone were the most spectacular I’ve ever seen snorkeling anywhere else. Can’t wait to head back there someday soon.

Words really can't describe how special this place is but I will give it a go. I will try to make this useful for someone who is thinking about visiting in order to set expectations accordingly. This is a remote resort perfect for people who want to unplug and experience something truly unique. This is about soaking in beautiful natural surroundings and appreciating marine life. The resort is perfectly integrated with the environment which really makes you feel like you are part of the place for the visit. I loved that you can only use wi-fi at the dive centre as I didn't come half way around the world to look at my phone or computer all the time. I loved how rustic yet comfortable and well thought out everything was as I really felt like I was in paradise for 9 nights. This isn't the Four Seasons so if you are looking for a pool and bar with signature cocktails this isn't for you. The staff was so wonderful and friendly and it really felt genuine. The food was great and perfect for those of us who were diving most of the time. The dive centre and the dive guides are top notch and it is really great that they are all Indonesian. The diving itself was out of this world and the staff ensured that all the groups visited the coveted dive sites multiple times. We ended our diving at Magic Mountain which was a spectacular way to end the trip. This is truly one of the most amazing spots on earth and we were very fortunate to be able to visit it. We are now trying to figure out when our next visit will be as I am not sure I want to dive anywhere else. Snorkelling on the house reef was an amazing experience in itself with abundant and varied marine life. We loved every second of our 9 days here.

We just returned from a wonderful Trip to Misool Eco Resort. This trip has been planned with a group of 15 for over a year and while it took some time to get here, it was so well worth the trip. My husband dives and I snorkel and we were both very happy with the diving and snorkeling. My husband said this was the best diving he has experienced. He had a dive guide the entire time to aid with his underwater photography and was so impressed with the dive guides' skills. We chose one of the villas over the water on the North Lagoon and loved it. So spacious and comfortable the the views were breathtaking. The Dive center is so accomodating with losts of amenities; showers, plenty of space to store dive and snorkeling gear between dives, and lots of great personal space for photography equipment. Misool also has quite a number of varied excursions to choose from in addition to all the diving and snorkeling. We loved the Lagoon half day tour and snorkel, the full day visit to Jellyfish lake and also our Sunset cruise to a beautiful beach for wine and snacks while taking in a beautiful sunset. They also will take couples to a private beach for the afternoon with snacks, fresh fruit and wine, which we enjoyed not once but twice! There are many other excursions in additon to the ones listed. Il also visited the spa there 3 times and enjoyed each visit. The massages and facials are incredible and nothing like it back at home. You will be well fed...5 meals to be exact and all wonderful, especially the yummy desserts. including a fare well Indonesian bbq feast . The staff are so friendly and accomodating...each person you meet goes above and beyond to make your stay wonderful . Mark and Sue, the general managers are amazing. They are very available, informative and go above and beyond also to make the guests comformtable, and arrange extras for a fantastic stay. We had a wonderful 10 days at Misool and would love to return to this 5 Star resort. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Misool.

I recently returned from a couple week dive trip to the magical region of Raja Ampat Indonesia. Raja Ampat is referred to as the seat of the coral triangle. The sights, smells and sounds of the region completely engaged every sense. The warm hospitality and caring of the Indonesian people are genuine and are missed in many locales on the globe today. Our temporary home for this experience was the Misool Resort on the island of Batbitim. Only fourteen years ago, Batbitim island was the sight of a recently abandoned shark finning camp (note 100 million sharks continue to be killed annually for their fins). Two avid divers along with investors negotiated a lease for Batbitim island with the local governing Indonesian people. The divers educated the locals that prosperity could be improved by protecting the resources above and below the sea. A marine reserve was established that has grown to 1200 sq km. According to studies (and my eyes 😊 ), “the protections have led to a greater diversity of fish, coral, and mollusks on these reefs, than anywhere on earth”. The local Indonesian residents staff the resort and make up the Ranger Patrol that protect the marine reserve. Our dive experiences at Misool showed that study to be spot on! I saw more variety and numbers of fish, soft and hard coral species and colors than I have ever experienced. I had my first experiences with pygmy seahorses, wobbegong sharks, bump head parrot fish, napoleon wrasse, mandarin fish, leopard sharks and oceanic manta rays to name a few. The majesty of diving with the oceanic mantas kicked my endorphins into over drive! The resort itself was constructed from previously fallen local hardwoods from Batbitim and surrounding islands. No trees were harvested to create the resort. Our villa was beautifully staged on the beach. It had three sets of double glass doors which we left open to enjoy the ocean breezes and gentle sound of the waves for sleeping. Much of the food is locally sourced and prepared fresh daily. We were fed five times a day. Misool is staffed and managed by an outstanding group of people! The hospitality and dining staff ensured that every need was timely responded to. The dive center is very well managed and organized. Dive day plans and briefings are strongly communicated. Our dive guide for our stay was Antoe Woong. Antoe has an eagle eye for spotting creatures small and large. His attention to his diver’s individual needs was outstanding! The dive boats are laid out and equipped well and are very efficient for the type of diving done. I greatly admire the efforts of the folks guiding and operating Misool Resort and the Misool Marine Reserve! The Misool Marine Reserve is a great blueprint for halting and reversing the damage that continues to occur in our oceans.
