This camp which is situated on the banks of the Limpopo, is quite basic. The rooms are built on stilts, there is no electricity, so no A/C, no fans and was it hot 40 degs plus. There is a communal kitchen and dining area, The rooms and the camp itself are clean and tidy all thanks to the camp manager Tibbs, who is very friendly and very helpful. The wildlife experience was second to none, we had Elephants walk past as we were braaiing, game drives with KB was an experience. he found Leopard and Lions both with a kill. This more than made up for the night time sweats.

Molema is a great place to enjoy nature. Coming from JNB it's on your way to North Botswana but it is much more than a stopover place. The 5 campsites are big and well shaded. Some have view on the Limpopo River. All have private accommodation which are totally renewed since December 2019 All accommodations are spic and span. There is water and a braai or fireplace. Lilian can provide firewood. The coast is R50 which seems a bit high but you get a lot of wood in return so the deal is fair. Be aware that the camp is not fenced and a lot of animals visit the camp at night. An elephant feeding next to your tent is very common there. You are not allowed to drive in the reserve but book a game drive, the rangers are excellent. KB took us out on foot to Eagle’s Rock. The view up there is magnificent. The walk is not too long and is combined with a game drive. Just do it! Lilian and KB are lovely hosts. We loved this place and will definitively come back. Note that there is a new high-level bridge at the Platjan border post. No troubles anymore when water raises. The border post does not close anymore due to high water level.

Molema is an incredibly scenic place, being able to sit on the bed of the Limpopo River is something quite spectacular. The heat can get a bit much but take a small portable battery fan with you for the nights and you’ll be good to go! This is perfect for the true campers and those who wish to see the Bush for its beauty, we had a leopard outside the first night, elephants came to visit. Really worth a stop, try get cabin 4 when it’s a bit hotter as it’s under a beautiful shady tree.

We stayed here only one night as a stopover on the way back to South Africa after 2 weeks camping and self-drive in Botswana. The campsite is dramatic, set under the stately Mashatu trees and alongside the Limpopo river (dry at the time we were there). The ablutions were fine, nothing fancy, but working well, clean and open-air. Watch out for the baboons, we felt as if we were under siege as they almost surrounded us. One alpha male helped himself to the rubbish bin in spite of the "scavenger proof" lid. After I asserted my own alpha status, he went away and did not attempt any more raids. Lillian was most helpful, especially with sound advice as to where we should make our border crossing. We know we should have booked a game drive in advance but we were still disappointed when we asked about taking one and were told that there was no one at our area to take us. We understood as it was not peak season but the area is beautiful and since the rule is no self-driving safaris it would have been nice to have the option. Next time we will stay longer and book our game drive in advance.
