...We were all allocated our rooms and off I went to locate my room... How do you know that a room stinks, and I mean damp smell greeting you as you walk in... We immediately went back to reception to ask that they look into it or change the room... Admittedly, the guy attending to us, Henrik was polite, listened and said no other rooms were immediately available but suggested 2 potential room changes the next day that we could view and move to should we choose to but we had to speak to the crew next day, provided we turn up at the desk 11am, which we did!... Only to be met by Katarina, who condescendingly offered a smaller room that we didn’t want and less than a minute later said unfortunately all rooms are booked (not by our understanding of availability following the prior day's conversation with Henrik)... And might I add, no technician was sent to our room to locate the source of the funky smell rather I became the spraying machine... Whenever we walked into the room I had to first spray perfume to reduce the funk... Additionally, the air conditioning system was there to provide acoustics through the night and not actually cool down the room and tripped off without reason (and this was not just my room)...

...All the staff from the daily room servicing, to the restaurant and bar staff and reception are so polite and helpful... There was plenty of storage, a comfortable bed and good shower... We were on the end where several units were located so I suspect that’s down to luck or bad luck depending on where your room is... Worse still is that on one morning, we went down mid-morning to find a large majority of beds with "reserved" cards on them, presumably for "day" visitors... It's simply not fair on the hotel residents...

...We booked through booking.com, the date, how many travellers and two rooms. What we didn’t realise is that the booking did not populate the form to show there was more than one person per room... Obviously there would not be two of me in two rooms but this is how it was presented at check in, the man on reception would not explain what the problem was, I showed them my booking and was made to feel very uncomfortable in front of others checking in, they then asked to keep my passport...

We arrived home today after having a week here, We enjoyed our stay, we changed rooms after the first night as our room smelt damp and was small, the receptionist gave us a choice of 2 other rooms, the one we chose was above the dive shop we thought this would be a problem in the morning with noise when they opened but it wasn't... Rooms cleaned everyday, staff are polite and attentive...

...This hotel was the lowest priced in Mellieha so wasn’t expecting the world... The reception team were friendly and helpful, Rouselle and another male member of staff (sorry can’t recall his name but was working the early shift on the 11th July) helped us with a room move due to poor air con, which we were very grateful for and he even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine!... Avoid room 7001, the corridor to this room was unbearable and the air con just blew hot air around... We swiftly moved rooms and room 6025 (which had a huge balcony, great for bigger families) was much better for us, although still unbearable in heat at times...

...As they could not find my booking I had to pay €200 to stay in one of there rooms but was made very aware that I HAD to be out by 10am... The next day I went to reception and talked to the manager they still couldn't find my booking but gave me a second room that they wanted me to pay for until the issue was resolved with the booking team the following day... Day 2 went to reception again and they asked me for my bank card to issue a refund and gave my passport back no reason why I had wasted 2 days of my holiday trying to sort my room, no apologies nothing... Malta is very nice place and the views around this location are great but this hotel ruined out wedding anniversary... As for the room we finally got, it was clean and nice The only issue was you can hear the sounds from outside so sound proof is not the best and air conditioning is not the best also...

Not 4 star, cleanliness of rooms and maintenance of room facilities needs improvement. Be careful as to what room they allocate to you, ours had one window which opened onto an enclosed drain area with no airflow to vent the room... AC did not work efficiently so room was hot, sweaty and damp...

...This was our first time in Malta and I booked 2 rooms for myself and husband and one for our 23 year old son... On the first night we found it difficult to sleep as the other “guests” in the room opposite us were being visited by their friends and we were disturbed by continual knocking on doors and then doors slamming shut... We asked if we could move rooms and were offered an upgrade with a balcony but I said that we weren’t bothered about a balcony we’d just like to get a decent night’s sleep... The room we were moved to was on the 1st floor and seemed ok except that when we moved the curtain we saw that about 6 feet away from our window there were tables and chairs set up outside for the hotel’s restaurant!... The rooms are tired with things that could do with replacing like broken drain covers in the shower... The rooms are reasonably clean although we did have a huge cockroach in our room on one occasion - probably because we were next to an outside eating area...

...Whilst we were able to find sun loungers, I think perhaps there should be a limit on the number of day visitor reservations for sunbeds as they usually reserved the best spots! We stayed half board and on the whole both breakfast and dinner were good... We used the Cave Bar throughout our stay - the pizzas were great and we made use of the daily happy hour for some fantastic cocktails which were very reasonably priced...

...The bathroom did not smell any better and still allocate that room to guest who paid good hard-earned money?... The only ladies at the Pergola Hotel they cannot afford to loose will be Rouselle and Marija... Booking with them is like rolling a dice...

...This hotel was the lowest priced in Mellieha so wasn’t expecting the world... We stayed half board this time, food was nice and good choices for both breakfast and evening meals... Doreen in the restaurant was friendly and very personable... Cave bar nice for a cocktail but food wasn’t the best, a little undercooked on the few days we visited and extremely expensive, for what it was... The air con in this hotel also needs a huge upgrade... Avoid room 7001, the corridor to this room was unbearable and the air con just blew hot air around... All in all our visit was memorable and if you are looking for a cheaper hotel on a budget then this is your place... Top tip - if you are visiting Valletta for the day use the public bus, stop is 5 mins from the hotel entrance and takes about 1hr 15 to get there, we used a taxi transfer booked with the hotel, but the standard of vehicle was shocking and we travelled most of our journey back in first gear!!...

...Happy Hour cocktails are a good deal and very popular... We did use the hotel transfer at 7 euros each to Valletta but the trip was horrible not enough seats so cramped going backwards on the edge of somebody else’s seat and no air con... The bus did have 2 seats in the front but driver did not move his case, far better to use bolt taxis to get around...

Gozo is a lovely visit to the Citadel and Valetta was a great day out 1 hour journey for €2 but fantastic sights and history...

We arrived home today after having a week here, We enjoyed our stay, we changed rooms after the first night as our room smelt damp and was small, the receptionist gave us a choice of 2 other rooms, the one we chose was above the dive shop we thought this would be a problem in the morning with noise when they opened but it wasn't... Rooms cleaned everyday, staff are polite and attentive... Getting about wasn't a problem we got a bus pass for 21 euros downloaded the app so we could see what bus number we needed and went out every day...

...We used both pools during our stay and found them to be very clean... We stayed half board and on the whole both breakfast and dinner were good... There was a varied selection at dinner time and we were very grateful to the lovely waiting staff who kindly brought out a couple of portions of chips for my youngest son one evening when there was nothing he would eat... It would be nice if soft drinks/water were included at dinner time for those who have paid for half board like they are at breakfast time... The staff who served us were very friendly and always greeted us with a smile... Overall we had a fantastic stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Pergola...

...We have just got back from a wonderful stay at the Pergola Hotel & Spa and everything about surpassed my expectations. Check in was simple and fast, the lady on the front desk is a real star, polite, efficient and eager to help, she clearly loves her job too and is dedicated to giving customers a good experience... Use the front exit and you are 30 seconds from a small convenience store, or 15 mins from Wellbees which is a large well stocked supermarket that puts UK ones to shame... Thank you to everyone there who made it a holiday to remember, and extra thanks to Pierre, Grazzi ħafna!...

...Doreen in the restaurant was friendly and very personable... The reception team were friendly and helpful, Rouselle and another male member of staff (sorry can’t recall his name but was working the early shift on the 11th July) helped us with a room move due to poor air con, which we were very grateful for and he even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine!... Negatives are that the Wi-Fi needs a definite upgrade, slow and cutting out consistently... Top tip - if you are visiting Valletta for the day use the public bus, stop is 5 mins from the hotel entrance and takes about 1hr 15 to get there, we used a taxi transfer booked with the hotel, but the standard of vehicle was shocking and we travelled most of our journey back in first gear!!...

...It was 40 degrees while we were there and the air conditioning worked very well... We used two of the pools and also the spa facilities and couldnt fault them... The pools closed at 8pm to enable them to be cleaned every evening... The pool surrounds were thoroughly cleaned every morning... We used one of their recommended tours to Gozo and Comino and it was well priced and good value for money... The hotel is a 2 minute walk to the main bus stops that will take you to Valetta and other areas of interest...

...All the pools were well maintained and clean and we always managed to get space to sit... I had a hot stone massage at the spa and it was very good... The only slight hiccup we had was our A/C stopped working one day but we called reception and an engineer was there in 20 mins and when it didn't come back on (think air con in the whole of Malta was struggling as it was 38 degrees +) they immediately provided us with a portable unit which worked perfectly...

We booked the Pergola based on the reviews we had read and it's location, as Mellieha had been recommended to us... We had booked on a bed and breakfast basis only, but decided to pay when we arrived for evening meals on 5 of the 7 nights that we stayed... Restaurant staff are very thorough with clearing tables... There is one person that I really want to say a big thank you to, and that is Rouselle on reception... She always greets you with a big smile and speaks every time that she sees you... She is easily one of the most pleasant and efficient receptionists that I have ever seen, and is ready with an answer to any questions that you have...

A special shout-out to Rouselle who works at the reception - she really made us feel so welcomed and taken care of... Incredibly generous with her advice on where to go, what to eat, and always made sure our time at the hotel was special...

Had a great stay at The Pergola - hotel was modern, clean and staff were extremely friendly and helpful... A big shout out to DOREEN who runs the dining room with such efficiently - she is lovely and friendly and will go out of her way to help with anything you may have an issue with (a big thank you for putting on some background music!)... You can walk to the lovely beach as it's all downhill but the buses are so regular you can just pop on one...

...Tucked out the way of a small town walking distance from a beach which is on a main bus route. Lovely size room, clean and fresh towels daily... Small fridge, safe and tv but only 1 UK channel so take your tablet with Netflix... Transfer on return was a coach and came a little late but still plenty of time at airport... If you want to get out go by bus as its €2 per trip per person no matter how far you go...

On our arrival we were met by Rouselle, a capable and charming receptionist working on the front desk, who informed us of all the geographical features of the splendidly appointed hotel... All facilities were fresh and clean, which was maintained throughout our weeks stay... Indeed all the staff were cheerful, polite and quick to help... The Malted bus system works very well, carried us to all parts of the island, strongly recommend the 21€ Buscard...

...It was cleaned daily with fresh towels and bed linen every day. We had B&B and went to breakfast every day... The are 2 rotary toasters, 3 coffee machines and 2 juice dispensers... We both used the spa and the treatments we git were perfect... My wife had a Head, Neck & Shoulder Massage, this was €35 for 30 minutes and I had a Full Swedish Body Massage, this was €60 for 60 minutes... We felt so much better after our treatments and felt this was really good value for money... There are 4 lifts which help you navigate the hotel... Lift A will take you from any floor to the entrance at street level avoiding quite steep stairs on the road outside... As you approach reception the staff always stand to greet you... The staff all want to make your stay special and they are a great asset to the hotel...

...The infinity pool was lovely the only drawback was on our last day a large family reserved the sun beds and arrived back at 17.00hrs... Rooms cleaned everyday, staff are polite and attentive... My family and I had a great holiday at the Pergola... Our room was a bright and airy one bedroom apartment with a lovely view and perfectly located for everything we needed within the hotel... We used both pools during our stay and found them to be very clean... Whilst we were able to find sun loungers, I think perhaps there should be a limit on the number of day visitor reservations for sunbeds as they usually reserved the best spots!... We stayed half board and on the whole both breakfast and dinner were good... However, if I were to make any suggestions it would be great to see scrambled eggs available alongside fried eggs every morning, a better selection of cereal and also pancakes daily as these were a HUGE hit with my children but only provided on three mornings during a ten day stay... There was a varied selection at dinner time and we were very grateful to the lovely waiting staff who kindly brought out a couple of portions of chips for my youngest son one evening when there was nothing he would eat... It would be nice if soft drinks/water were included at dinner time for those who have paid for half board like they are at breakfast time... We used the Cave Bar throughout our stay - the pizzas were great and we made use of the daily happy hour for some fantastic cocktails which were very reasonably priced... The staff who served us were very friendly and always greeted us with a smile... Overall we had a fantastic stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Pergola...

...Positives: The wedding reception setting and organisation was superb... All the staff from the daily room servicing, to the restaurant and bar staff and reception are so polite and helpful... A special word to Rouselle at reception and Doreen and James at breakfast who were lovely... We had a sea view apartment which was a good size although the bedroom was on the small side... There was plenty of storage, a comfortable bed and good shower... Despite the hotel's size, we never had a problem getting a table at breakfast... The main pool has a "cave bar" which does good food and a "Happy Hour" with two cocktails (the same) for one between 16:00 and 18:00 each day... The hotel is close to lots of restaurants and the good bus service that Malta offers... The hotel is large and on several levels with various lifts between floors... It's often quicker to use the stairs rather than a lift!... Row upon row of sunbeds close together with large umbrellas providing shade... Other beds were "reserved" with towels with no one in sight... There is also an inner courtyard pool with a shallow one for children...

We stayed at Pergola for 1 week from 18th-25th August & i would highly reccomend... I am a travel agent so i did my research & chose our hotel carefully & we were so happy with out choice... We had a seaview apartment 6022 with amazing seaviews & a beautifull view of the church... We found all of the staff to be polite & efficient & were always greeted with a smile... We were booked on a half board basis so we had breakfast & dinner included in the Bonaventura Restaurant... The staff were great here too & there was plenty of choses & great food served all week!... We also had room service on a couple of ocassions & found this to be great also!!... Thankyou Pergola & the all of team for making our stay truly Special x Rebecca & family...

Our room (7026) was larger than I was expecting, everything was clean and tidy... We had asked for a room with a sea view, and when we pulled back the curtains it was jaw dropping and worth paying the extra for... The main pool area is lovely, plenty of sun loungers and a great cave bar, the pool isn't huge but great to cool off in... We were there on a self catering basis so I can't comment on the food, but the hotel is located in a good position, use the rear exit and you are 2 minutes from the bus stop, and 5 minutes from a range of small shops, bars and restaurants... Use the front exit and you are 30 seconds from a small convenience store, or 15 mins from Wellbees which is a large well stocked supermarket that puts UK ones to shame...

...Our 2nd visit here after a great stay back in 2018 we thought to return as we knew what the hotel offered. Great location for all areas of visiting Malta and only 35 minutes from the airport... We stayed half board this time, food was nice and good choices for both breakfast and evening meals... Pool areas are clean and lots of sun beds to choose from... Quite a few local places in walking distance which offered much nicer food, Billy’s bar just up the road in Mellieha comes highly recommended... The air con in this hotel also needs a huge upgrade... Visiting in July we expected heat, but we also expected an air con system that worked... We swiftly moved rooms and room 6025 (which had a huge balcony, great for bigger families) was much better for us, although still unbearable in heat at times... We appreciated it was extremely hot for the time of year but this standard or air con would definitely put me off returning again as all other public areas in the hotel were like an ice box, so it worked in some parts of the hotel just not the rooms!... With it being a good location and fantastic views overlooking Mellieha it’s a good destination for both families and couples...

We also had food at the Cave Bar and sister venue The Square and can recommend them both... We used two of the pools and also the spa facilities and couldnt fault them... The pools closed at 8pm to enable them to be cleaned every evening... The pool surrounds were thoroughly cleaned every morning... The location of the hotel is very good and there is plenty within walking distance, although nowhere in Mellieha is very flat... The hotel is a 2 minute walk to the main bus stops that will take you to Valetta and other areas of interest... Overall we would definately recommend The Pergola and would not hesitate in returning for another visit...

We had a lovely week at the hotel, we were very lucky with our room a fantastic view over the bay and church. Housekeeping made beds and changed towels every day the hotel is kept very clean... The staff at the Cave bar were very good and the pizzas were nice... Happy Hour cocktails are a good deal and very popular... The pool areas are nice but at 4pm everyday groups of teenagers seemed to take over the pool with balls flying out of the pool and hitting people so not a great time to relax... After seeing other hotels in the area glad we chose this one and glad we chose a 1 bedroom apartment with sea view...

This was a lovely clean hotel where we stayed for 2 nights at the start and one at the end of our cruise. What a treat this turned into as we just loved the location, the room, the breakfast, all spot on... Most of all we spent a lot of time in the magnificent 'Cave Bar' with its wide selection of reasonably priced food and drink as well as an infinity pool with the most amazing view... The staff were so helpful and did all they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible... Would definitely recommend to anyone and will return again one day...

The hotel was great for early spring Easter holiday... I got the exact room I booked with sea view and the church... It was a delight to enjoy my morning coffee or evening wine on the balcony, listening the bells... The room was very cleaned and perfectly equipped... The cleaning was done daily and towels changed as well... There was no solid soap or body lotion in the bathroom which should be standard for 4* hotels... Also, the body gel was very very thin... Also the music next to the pool was ok, although repetitive and can be difficult to read a book... The sauna and the indoor pool were great too... On the other hand, gym machines should have some serious service... I also have a Swedish massage and it was very good... Food for half board was adequate, enough to please everybody... There was also a small buffet in the reception if you were leaving earlier and missing your breakfast... The best of all were the hotel staff, always smiling and being helpful... Mellieha was a great choice for my short Easter break, even with few cloudy days there are plenty areas to walk or hike and enjoy the blooming beauty of Malta...

...The days we got down early the bacon was crisper, the sausages cooked & not fatty, the pastries fresh... On the plus side the hotel itself looks lovely as you struggle to find the right lift... They are, bags of space, comfy bed & places to put luggage... The cave bar is great, the restaurant downstairs is fabulous & as I said the staff are very helpful... I am sure the pool is great too but, like the spa, we didn't use it... Yes, overall, despite my niggles, it is a good hotel, well price, beautifully turned out & an ideal spot to holiday from...

However, the pool at the cave bar was not particularly clean and the indoor pool was so chlorinated that it made swimming impossible, although this issue was raised with staff who said they would attend to it... Overall, an extremely good hotel with really helpful, polite, pleasant and approachable staff, excellent food and service, very clean with stunning views...

...For Dinner you have several different cakes every evening, and a lot hot and cold components od lunches, which are noodles, with seashells, meat or vegetables, fries, potatoes in any kinds of manifestations, salads, fruits, icecream, and, like for breakfast, cold cuts and cheese. ...This was our fourth trip to Melliaha and our third time at the Pergola Spa, our previous visit the hotel was closed for refurbishment. The room we had overlooked one of the 3 pools at the hotel... This is a small intimate courtyard pool and is usually very quiet... The room itself was very nice, plenty of room and a beautifully refurbished bathroom... It was cleaned daily with fresh towels and bed linen every day... We had B&B and went to breakfast every day... The selection was straight forward, fresh fruit and yoghurts, meat and cheeses, cereal, pastries and cakes, as well as bacon, sausage, beans fried eggs and omelette... The are 2 rotary toasters, 3 coffee machines and 2 juice dispensers... The Cave Bar is, as it sounds, built into the side of the hill on which the hotel stands, good selection of drinks and the food is excellent... The infinite pool is here and gives you a fantastic view over the village... It can get busy as local families are able to use the pool but this is generally at weekends... We both used the spa and the treatments we git were perfect... There are 4 lifts which help you navigate the hotel... Lift A will take you from any floor to the entrance at street level avoiding quite steep stairs on the road outside... As you approach reception the staff always stand to greet you... The staff all want to make your stay special and they are a great asset to the hotel...

...Had a great week at this hotel which is modern and well presented. The room was larger than average with a balcony facing outside... The outdoor pools are very good and the hotel is kept immaculately clean... We were half board and the breakfast is buffet style with a wide range of hot and cold dishes... The evening meal had a wide choice of starters, mains and desserts to choose from... It was a pleasure to stay and I would highly recommend this hotel for couples wanting a quite break... It is just a short walk to the village centre for bars, restaurants and shops and local buses to most of Malta...
