The hotel has recently been renovated. The room was spacious and comfortable. Cleaned every day with fresh towels provided. The hotel is located on a busy road, there is a constant rumble of traffic and honking horns! Not a fault of the hotel. The food on the rooftop and ground floor is excellent freshly cooked to order. The main restaurant for breakfast and evening meal is clean with very attentive staff. The food is fine, but very typical of 'hotel' food. Everything is fresh and there is a lot of choice. We enjoyed our stay at Solana Hotel and Spa and would stay again if we revisit Malta. There is a regular bus service which will take you wherever you wish to go on the island for €2! The rooftop pool is lovely with sun loungers and beautiful views!
Considering our room was billed as, 'one of the best in the hotel', I was distinctly underwhelmed. For a luxury room, it was pretty basic, the view from the terrace was spectacular, but when you turned around you could see couples having a drink at the roof bar and peering right over our terrace! It wasn't particularly quiet either, with the sound of scraping chairs and tables from the roof terrace directly above and the bathroom ventilation sounded like an aircraft taking off. The furniture was badly laid out withe the sofa underneath the TV and the hairdryer down the back of the aforementioned sofa. After all of this, it was the dining experience that really let this hotel down. Queues of 30 minutes to get your food with the buffet being served by just one Guy. There were plenty of servers bussing the tables, but no-one making a move to clear the queue. Where was the restaurant manager? Breakfast was even more of a shambles, the guy who was dishing up the hot food seemed to take great pleasure in jumbling up the food to make it look as unpleasant as possible. The food quality was not that great either. It might sound like I am being really fussy, but the room was €180 per night, and I expected a lot more. Servers and food at the Pool bar were great and it was like being in a different hotel.…
My friend and I went to the spa twice during our weekend break. They have a good range of very reasonably priced treatments and are very accommodating to your needs. The treatments were lovely and I would highly recommend. Only slight points for improvement are that they have male therapists but do not ask you if you mind and also that the treatments weren’t consistent between different therapists so if you went back expecting the same, you wouldn’t necessarily get it. Don’t let this put you off though as I won’t hesitate to go back for more!
We booked our honeymoon at this hotel through Voyage Prive (a website you would expect to give you the "luxury" you pay for). On arrival , the hotel is set back, dark and surrounded by building sites - not the hotel's fault, but not what we expected based on website pictures. We had opted for a suite which was NOT what was given to us. Our room was dated, dark, dirty (after unpacking in bare feet they were black), the bathroom was dated, the view from the balcony was a brick wall. We lasted a couple of hours here before having to spend the same money elsewhere (we are still waiting for a refund from Voyage Prive). The rooftop pool was overcrowded and small for the amount of people the hotel would sleep which made no sense. The staff were helpful, and did offer to upgrade us to a room with a better view, however for the cost vs the outcome, there was nothing that could have been done to improve our stay at this hotel. Would NOT recommend unless you were staying o a budget and literally needed a bed.…
We stayed here at the start of September for our honeymoon and we’re really impressed with our hotel experience. We spent most of our time on the top deck pool/bar, the rooftop had the most beautiful views, a good mix of guest and the background music was perfect for a relaxing/upbeat holiday vibe not too loud if your planning on reading. I’m usually sceptical about hotel bar/food prices but actually found the cost of food and drinks more then reasonably. FYI HAPPY HOUR 241 on cocktails every day 5-7pm. We had lunch on a few occasions and enjoyed a breakfast, all the food was spot on. Our room was on -3 level, it was spacious and modern (I’m not sure if all rooms are the same depending on location in the hotel) Overall the staff were friendly, helpful and just generally happy to be there. Location of the hotel was spot on, it’s on the main road which has a few lovely restaurants just minutes away, there’s a bus stop directly outside the hotel which can take you to the beach / Around Malta (bus fare is 2 euros where ever Your heading) the beach is about a 20-30mins walk but easy to walk there and back. Mellileah is very hilly and has great views. I’d recommend sea view cafe bar last the church, plenty cocktail/drinks choices. Thank you Solana for a great stay!…
