The Luna Holiday Complex appears to be a hit for its value and location, with many guests enjoying the proximity to beaches and local attractions despite its hillside position. While the staff's friendliness and efficient service are often commended, some visitors encountered slow service and housekeeping hiccups. Room cleanliness and amenities are generally celebrated, although there are sporadic mentions of maintenance and view concerns. A common thread among critiques is the disruptive atmosphere caused by loud music and noise, which can impinge on guests' relaxation and sleep quality.

I arrived during the covid crisis but when Malta was still considered safe and was free from quarantine issues. I was due to stay for 2 weeks so I booked a superior room. When I checked in I was directed to a room in block 1 (the hotel has 4 blocks). I'm guessing that block one is the oldest part, as when I entered the room I was disappointed to say the least. The veneer was peeling from the doors, the bath was dull from considerable wear and the shower attachment was rusty and had left stains on the tub. The room itself was very basic, with a small balcony looking directly out onto a busy road. It was however very clean. When I spoke to reception, I was informed that SUPERIOR in their hotel means large, not better standard. Much to their credit, before I even asked to change rooms, I was offered a standard sea view (same price as superior land view) in block 4, the newest part of the hotel. This room was in much better condition, it was very slightly smaller but there was no difference in equipment or facilities, again very clean.
Beware if travelling with children, there is no thermostat on the shower and the hot water comes out at about the same temperature as molten lava.
I ended up being stuck in Malta due to the change in quarantine requirements and the hotel were excellent. No problem extending my booking for another 2 weeks and because this was booked at the hotel it worked out quite a lot cheaper.
The Luna lounge on the 6th floor, that features heavily in the hotel promotions, is very smart with stunning views, but you must pre book your space as it gets busy (kids are not allowed in this pool area).
The food is okay, although the hotel has 3 restaurants there is not really a choice, as they are each open for specific meals. Breakfast is not the best, usually the eggs were cold (but that may be the result of covid restrictions, meaning that the buffet has to be served by staff) cereal was not an option, although it can be purchased at the hotel's minimarket. Dinner is served in the bistro style restaurant, it is ok but heavily reliant on pizza, burgers, chips.
The best thing about this hotel is the staff, from the housekeeping to the service staff, they are all very friendly and helpful.

Myself and my husband stayed for 5 nights and have to say the hotel is in a great location near to bars and restaurants and the beach is a 5 to 10 minute stroll away. We had a self catering studio which was a nice size, the air conditioning was great and needed in August. The tv has a couple of english movie channels. The balcony is very small, enough room for 2 chairs, not an issue for us but if like a big balcony this wouldn't be place for you. The staff were lovely and the rooms serviced every second day, though due to covid you could forgo the room cleaning and just request extra towels etc during your stay. The mini market at the back of the hotel is well stocked and reasonably priced. All in all, can't fault the hotel and would return. Mellieha itself we found very quiet, no real night life to speak off but this could be due to covid as there were bars up the steep hill from the hotel which i'd'recommend getting a taxi or bus to as its about a mile long. The walk down during the day is lovely though.

We visited this place with our three teenage boys in August 2020. Probably less busy than usual for summer due to COVID but most places were open.

It was clean, modern, well presented and staff were exceptionally helpful in all areas. The rooms were spacious and we were lucky to have sea views across the bay.

Location wise, it is a 10 minute walk from the beaches and a couple of minutes from a bus stop.

The complex has two pool areas, a younger family one at ground level and a cool rooftop pool area. This had a bar, eating area, bubble pool, and sun-loungers. We particularly liked the double loungers. My own small criticism of this is that the music was extremely loud and made it less relaxing than it could have been.

We bought breakfast a couple of times and this was fresh and plentiful.

It cost about €24 to have WiFi in our rooms but as others have said, the connection was not great and dropped out regularly.

We got around the island using public buses which are cheap, regular and easy to use. Masks had to be worn on public transport.

We would recommend this accommodation and return if we go back to Malta.

From Luna Holiday Complex you easily reach the nearby sand beach by feet. To be honest, it is not the best beach on island, but when not planning to explore the island, one of the options. I definitely recommend to explore the island, at least the Paradise beach and Ghajn Tuffieha are the must. Surprisingly the local (airconditioned!) buses are operating quite often and when you buy the bus card at the reception, quite cheap as well (one ride 2 Euros – even to the capital Valetta).
If you like the fresh local fish from locals, I recommend the Riviera Blue restaurant. But on the way from hotel direction Mellieha beach, there are many good (but sometimes overpriced) restaurants.
I recommend to book the hotel directly, they offer special services (breakfast and wifi) for better price than usual accommodation platforms. The hotel consists of serviced apartments, everything was at hand there, even the market at the back of the hotel. We had a quite new apartment, the only problem was it faced to the hotel courtyard, when the evening program with live music took place, so it was quite noisy there (even in the morning when the chairs has been prepared for breakfast). Breakfast is the strong side of the hotel services, very varied and tasty. The waiters smiled at us, were very helpful. The highlight of the hotel is the roof top bar and restaurant with nice pool and stunning views on the Mellieha bay and sunsets. Nice to have a drink in the evening there! What is really the weak point of the hotel is the very slow or very often even non-functioning wifi. We did not expect this since today it is natural thing in hotel complexes. Unfit for Instagram freaks…

We stayed here for 7 nights over the New Year. The hotel itself is situated at the bottom of a hill about a 10/15 min walk from where the main area of shops etc are, although there a few restaurants and a shop near the hotel. Bus stop right across the road from the hotel.
Staff were amazing. So friendly and go out of their way to help you.
Food was good. Not a massive choice as it’s quite a small restaurant but what is there is tasty. I am vegetarian so every night the staff would get the chef to make me something which was very nice.
The pizzas are definitely among the best on the island as stated by another reviewer!
Drinks were reasonably priced too.
Indoor swimming pool was nice and warm and wasn’t too busy when we were there.
WiFi is available in the foyer but not in the rooms and it was quite expensive so we didn’t bother paying for it.
We hired a car to get around the island which we would recommend doing, although like I said earlier there is a bus stop across from the hotel so getting about wouldn’t be a problem. The shop near the hotel does excursions and the sightseeing bus picks you up outside of the hotel. If you wait til 3pm and 4pm the bus brings you back too.
Popeyes village was a 10 min drive away, which is definitely worth a visit.
Ferry terminal to Gozo is nearby too, although we didn’t take a trip as the sea was quite choppy!
I would say that this was by far one of the cleanest hotels we have ever stayed at.
We would definitely stay here again.
Big thankyou to all of the staff for making it such a pleasant stay.

This hotel has dated and run down apartments and its only saving grace is the roof top pool.
How ever this aspect is ruined by by the need to pre book sun beds 24 hours before under the guise of covid ( believe you me they are jammed in up there cheek to cheek). Not only do they tell you when you try to book in that there is no availability for the next two days then they extend it to the next 4 days. Wait i thought it was only 24 hours pre booked that was allowed!!!!
They say that if the reserved beds are not taken up by 11am the staff will remove the signs and anyone one can take them. Well the staff dont and the staff up on the Sky Bar pool are surly, dismissive and lazy. They tut when you ask for glasses with ice to go with your can of coke zero at 2.50 euros, it all too much bother for them .

The girl who allocates the sun beds will also put guests from her own nationality into the prime sun bed spots. You then have to hunt around the pool to find out where she has decided that you HAVE TO sunbathe.
Hire maltase staff at least they are pleasant and friendly. The maltase cleaner who was in the sunbed area around 8am was lovely and also Rocco the maintenance man was efficient and did his job well and would always have a chat.
This stress is all too much to deal with when away after all the point of a holiday is to relax around a pool. Would i come here again , the answer is no.
Get a better more robust system in place and get rid of the unpleasant bar staff.

A good apartment hotel. Really enjoyed our stay.

My biggest tip - BOOK DIRECT through the hotel website. This seems to give you free WiFi in your room and your room is cleaned daily. I also think you get the best price and I did check many other websites first.

Room is a great size, nice view of pool and ocean. Well equipped kitchenette, good air conditioning, slept so well every night!

The pool downstairs is much quieter than the one on the roof and more peaceful, despite children being allowed there. Upstairs is a bit of a strange atmosphere. The woman on the bar is pretty rude - bad vibes from her. Tried to book 2 sun loungers the day before and apparently all reserved already. The next day we booked some for 2 days in advance and when we turned up our name wasn’t down for any reservation! Luckily they had some spare that day but would have been annoyed if not.

They also have a very strange situation with the ‘VIP’ beds on the roof which seem to be reserved for absolute royalty. They are deluded if they are thinking that some high profile celeb or princess is going to rock up and require a day bed on the off chance. Use that space and give your current guests the chance to have a day at the roof pool.

Aside from that all good - sort out the ‘vip’ rubbish and it would be perfect!

I have just returned from a 5 night stay here and have to say it was absolutely perfect! The reception staff were very helpful and very welcoming and very covid friendly with a strict mask wearing policy and plenty of sanitiser stations located throughout.
The hotel was perfectly located with restaurants in easy reach and quite reasonably priced and also there is a very regular bus service that costs €2 for anywhere on the island (I'm told) that we only used to go into Melliah that was up a steep hill!!
The hotel was immaculately clean and all the staff work very hard.
The negatives would be that the roof top bar staff in particularly the blonde haired one, was very rude on ocassions to us and to other guests - not customer friendly at all. I think also that a better system could be implemented with regards to the reservation of the sunbeds.
I would highly recommend this hotel and we will be back for sure!

The hotel is super clean with the most friendly and helpful staff, they really are what makes this place.

We could not fault the cleaning, however the cleaners may want to stop talking very loudly outside guest rooms at 8am, not the best way to wake up. (Happened more than a few times.)

Air-conditioning was not working, was just a fan no form of air cooling at all.

Kitchen is ideal for breakfast not sure you could do much else in it, no kitchen knife/chopping board, you get plates glasses and cutlery a few pans and that is it, room has the world's slowest kettle and a small electric oven grill thing, would be so much better with a microwave.

We had our towels changed every other day and two bedding changes over 11 nights. Housekeeping happens before 10am and some mornings before 9am, not the best when you on holiday and want a lye in.

However the staff in this hotel are 5* nothing is to much trouble, very polite, very helpful and really make this place wonderful.

The whole building is immaculately clean.

Happy hour in the front bar is 5-7pm lovely cocktails.

Pool was nice , roof pool looked good was too cold when we went but in the summer would be amazing up there.

Really easy to get a bus from outside the hotel, we bought a bus pass at reception for unlimited travel for €21 for 7 days.

I would visit again as I feel the staff are superb at this ace so any other moan is very small.

We had such a great stay at Luna. The staff were really friendly and always willing to help. Our room had everything we needed although we were a bit confused about the wet room set up as it made the bathroom soaked after use. Towels and the bin were changed every few days and the bed was changed mid week. We had a lovely balcony we could use to dry swimwear and beach towels as well as sit outside after dinner.
We used the 6th floor adults only pool every day which was great. The poolside bar was reasonably priced and we recommend the grilled octopus. Rules were enforced quite well and under 17s were removed when spotted. There is another pool for everyone downstairs.

On our last day our flight was later in the evening so we checked out and used the pool all day and were able to borrow towels from reception and shower in the showers near the gym- I think they were the scuba diver showers so not the cleanest but they did the job.

The mini market is great, I say mini, it stocks everything! There are restaurants near the hotel but also great options up the hill. Walk up the hill if you dare or pay €2 (bus stop Luna isn’t too far from the hotel). We enjoyed a leisurely stroll down the hill after dinner.

You can also get the bus to ththe airport and Valletta from the Luna bus stop.

The hotel also had prices for private bus transfer to places like medina and marsaxlokk which are worth doing as they’re difficult to access by public transport.
