My husband & I stayed in the Dunamar apartments in October 2021. We had never been to the area before & there were very few recent reviews for the hotel on trip advisor or on the Jet 2 website who we booked it through so we took a bit of a gamble. Turns out most of the tourists in the area are either Portuguese on holiday or Swedish & Danish which we were totally fine about as we like to be around different nationalities other than our own on hols.. The hotel was also being used for a fitness boot camp during the month of October so it seems to attract quite active people. Monte Gordo is a pleasant town located a few miles away from the Spanish border. The beach is amazing & the hotel sits directly onto the beach with easy access onto beach board walks & beautiful restaurants on your doorstep. There isn’t much to see in the little town itself but the beach & boardwalk make up for that. Vila Real de San Antonio the border town is located a few miles away & is easy to get to by bike & via a reasonably safe flat cycle lane each way. The ferry from there can take you across to Spain for the morning for just over a Euro. We also visited Tariva for the day which is a beautiful historic town about 20 mins drive away from Monte Gordo & cost £25 by taxi. We stayed B&B at the hotel & there was a good buffet selection which we were totally happy with. We felt safe eating in the restaurant. Covid regulations were enforced by staff with mask wearing when walking around, temp checks at the entrance & gloves. The apartments themselves are clean & as you would expect. Maybe slightly tired in areas but fine. Beds were comfy enough. Worth noting as well that the hotel & boardwalk / restaurants on the boardwalks are all reasonably wheelchair accessible or good for those with walking difficulties. Only downside was the safes in the rooms are old & don’t work properly & there doesn’t seem to be much urgency to get them upgraded. All in all we were pleasantly surprised & had a nice weeks stay.

Excellent apart hotel right on the beach but everything within walking distance.
Excellent restaurants very close by and if you like your sea view and fish your in the right place.
The one bedroom was apartment we rented had a full sea view was very clean and cleaned everyday a basic kitchen with 2 hobs, microwave, coffee machine, fridge freezer.
The size of the apartment was very generous with a good size double bedroom, bathroom with shower over bath and a large open plan dining and lounge area.
Bar and pool area well looked after use of the hotel's beach towels main reception area very big with sofa's and day beds.
All in all an excellent place we are returning later this year for another 2 weeks.
Local train and bus services are good to get to other resorts nearby and taxis to the next resort are reasonable.

Lovely, spacious and clean apartment! The location is perfect, you can walk straight onto the wide sandy beach and you can also be in the center in no time. On the beach you have several cozy and good restaurants where you can have a delicious lunch and dinner. We mainly stayed on the sandy beach (15 euros for 2 beds and a parasol). The breakfast in the hotel is extensive and has something for everyone: fried egg, scrambled egg, boiled egg, various sandwiches, delicious fresh fruit such as watermelon, pineapple, mango. You can also have a nice lunch by the pool for little money. And have a delicious drink in the cocktail bar (beer is 2.20, a large glass of sangria is 4 euros, a well-filled glass of wine is 3 euros and a pornstar martini is 6 euros). We think the prices are excellent compared to Spain and the Canary Islands! Super friendly people and the cleaning is perfect, clean bath towels every day! And oh yes, leave your own beach towel at home, because you can get clean beach towels here every day for a 25 euro pp deposit. This will only be charged if you do not return the beach towels on your last day of stay. We will definitely come back here again!!

At Dunamar from 17th to 28th May in apartment 325 with sea view. Close to lifts and access to pool and their easy access to the beach. Been Monte Gordo twice before , 1st time at Dunamar and couldn't fault it. Someone came in every day to make the very comfortable beds , many clean towels , the cleaners should be praised for their efficiency. We were self catering so can't comment on the food , but the 2 for 1 drinks at Happy 2 hrs 5 til 7 pm went down very well.Staff on reception very helpful , provided electric kettle and helped with phoning transfer company for confirmation of pick up times. Only thing not open was indoor pool and sauna as spa was being upgraded. Close to many restaurants and bars. Would certainly return to Dunamar for our next visit to Monte Gordo and its lovely beach. I have walking difficulties and found everything was made easy for ourselves as requested by e-mail prior to our visit.

Going to the Dunamar Hotel was a good choice. It has a lot of services included, such as, the swimming pool, the night enterteinment, etc. I ,specially, liked the concert of Fado by Mr. Carlos, because he is really good at his job. The best part is that the beach is near the hotel. It was a good experience; however, the cost is not available for everybody and you have to pay extra money for lunch and dinner.

Lovely short transfer from Faro, to a spotlessly clean and spacious hotel, lovely pool and leisure facilities, lovely food. Short walk into a nice town, with small shops and restaurants. One bedroom apartment is a decent size and perfectly adequate for a family of 4. Fabulous beachfront location and the beach is a real stunner.

A few things to be aware of: the rooms on the west side of the hotel overlooking the sea/town have full sun all afternoon and early evening which makes sitting out at these times impossibly hot! Pool/beach towels are €25 to hire for the week each! Vegetarian options at the evening buffet are quite limited.

Unwanted guest at dinner on the dessert cart!
Just at the end of our 4th day at the Dunamar hotel, Monte Gordo on the Algarve. Travelled here on the 6am flight from Birmingham airport and arrived at Hotel at 10.30am. Our room wasn’t ready till after 2pm so sat around in our jeans and UK clothes for several hours. The hotel, drab and tired, is understaffed, everything is closed except the dining room and bar. No shop, spa, entertainment or anything! Facilities all closed. The food is very limited, receptive, lukewarm and tasteless. We have complained via the TUI app every day since arriving and our TUI rep Leana (who divulged that many other guests are also complaining) agreed with our evaluation that the hotel wasn’t fit for purpose. TUI eventually agreed to transfer us to an alternative hotel after 4 days of a 7 day stay at a personal cost to us of almost £500 + we would have to make our own transfer arrangements (almost 50 kilometres) The final nail in the coffin after a 5th night of only eating salad was an unwanted guest on my dessert (see creature top right) as per photo! For what its worth we are life long TUI customers and this is the first time we have felt lead to leave a review. We are now trying to salvage the remainder of our holiday by spending as little time as possible in this poor excuse of a third rate hotel.

Me, my girlfriend and our two kids(20 and 17) had an early morning flight from Gatwick. We arrived at the Dunamar hotel at 11am but was told we couldn’t book in until 4pm. When 4pm approached we went to book in and the receptionist gave us our key but the cleaner stopped us going in as she it wouldn’t be ready today. We went back to reception and changed rooms…eventually! I did see other people book in at 2pm on other days! The room was nice with a sea view. The food was nice for breakfast and evening meal. The staff in restaurant were friendly and helpful. The lady that worked at the poolside bar was extremely rude and didn’t like us changing our mind on crisps or snacks. She was very moody! The pool was lovely and spent most of the week in the pool. The hotel didn’t have an pool tables, which was a shame. The hotel is in a quiet location with not much else to do. Most of the evening entertainment was in Portuguese and not much for the Brits. The week was very warm and relaxing.

Excellent hotel, all areas very, very clean. We had a one bedroom apartment which was very spacious. We were only bed & breakfast, which was nice and plenty to choose from. Hotel is very well run with helpful and friendly staff. No one allowed to reserve beds with towels from early in the morning, and it worked really well, getting a sun bed was never an issue. Really close to all amenities. Would return here in a minute.

Breakfast little varied in terms of fresh bread variety. No pancakes.
There was no avocado as in the previous years and no variety of fruit of the time. Papaya/potato were put once only and without repetition.

Coffee of low quality machines.

Many employees watch the guests put food on the plates.

Dinner of good quality and variety.
