In the 60's, here it appears and opens, that would become "The first beach hotel in the Algarve". At the seafront planted, it served as inspiration, named after the great discoverer, who five centuries ago discovered the sea route to India, thus being baptized on August 1, 1960 of "Hotel Vasco da Gama" applied in a metaphorical way, because this would be the first to be born in this region. The Hotel Vasco da Gama offers 186 rooms, which are all equipped with all modern amenities, such as swimming pools, tennis courts, children's playground, mini golf, gym, Wi-Fi internet, parking, private gardens, restaurants and bars. A wide range of services, as well as breathtaking views of the sea, where the main concern is nothing more than the comfort and well-being of those who stay there, or unforgettable moments.

We visited at the end of August for a week. The hotel is vintage but very clean, perfect for a summer vacation, in front of the beach. We like to highlight the cleaning of room and general hotel, the pool is perfect, very well-kept gardens, the breakfast was great. But most of all we would like to thanks all the staff of sympathy and help, You're great, in special to the breakfast staff, they work a lot to prepare all the breakfast for every single guest in COVID-19 time. For all of you a HUGE thanks, you're a big team. Please go visit Vasco da Gama next time you visit Monte Gordo, they deserve a visit :)

This was our first holiday in Portugal and first impressions as you arrive outside and into reception are good - check in was quick (we had arrived later than expected due to an error on the part of Easyjet with our transfer). We had a room overlooking the front of the hotel which is not the best side and at times was fairly chilly as it was north facing. The room was somewhat dated and is in much need of an upgrade although kept spotless. Mealtimes were an eye opener. The restaurant opened at 6.30 and by that time there is a substantial queue. The food is plentiful, but they do need to think about labelling the dishes a bit better. The choices for vegetarians are not particularly good. We were pleasantly surprised to find the area very good for walking with a National Park just along the road and the boardwalks all along the seafront makes for a very pleasant walk. All in all we enjoyed our holiday, good weather, plenty of sunbeds (most of the time) and very quiet with no children. Also there is a small garden area which is nice to sit in if you want to be away from the pool.

We visited at the end of February for two weeks. Our room, 302, was quite dated, but the maids kept it spotlessly clean. We had paid for a seaview, and that's what we got! So pleased we did too as the sunsets and sunrises were fantastic! The boardwalks along the front were really great with people running or walking from early until late. Private entrance to the hotel was very reassuring The hotel has a lovely bar, with Happy Hour between 6 and 7. A good drinks menu too. You could have tea and biscuits here too at 3 until 4pm. Warning...do not be late as the hot water is removed spot on 4pm! On the first night we noticed that German and Dutch guests were queuing outside the dining room at least 20 mins before it opened at 6.30pm. It only took us a few days to find out why! To call the restaurant busy is an understatement. They have tables in rows, and you can be sat in the middle of a row of 8 with Germans one side, shouting across you to their friends on the other side. If you were lucky, you might get a table at the back where 2 people can sit. This was generally only if you went in around 8pm when the earlies had finished. The trouble with eating late is that the food was either very dry, or not much left. Always plenty of salads, although every day they were the same. The soups were really nice, so there was always something to eat. There was generally always somebody cooking something fresh, well at 6.30pm! Sweets were icecream or shop bought gateaux. Plus lovely fresh fruit. I expect in the summer, when people can eat outdoors, these problems would not occur. My husband is hard of hearing and for him the whole eating experience was quite torturous. There is an upstairs eating area which was only opened up at breakfast time. If only we had been allowed to eat up there some evenings! It would have made a great difference! The staff at the hotel were always charming and friendly. The evening entertainment was really very good. The Fado singers, one night Riu Tenorio, and another night Carlos, were extremely good. Also an exceptional girl Jazz singer. The hotel is situated in a lovely part of Portugal. When we got home we watched a YouTube showing the construction and history of the hotel. Fascinating! There is a carhire company just across the road that we used, recommended by the hotel. First car we had was really nice but the second car not so good. The roads are pretty good so we were glad to look around the area up to Tavira, and across to Castro Marim and Odeleite. Beautiful deserted areas which no doubt are busy later in the year. We stayed here just as the coronavirus was starting to hit Portugal. We feel so sad that all the staff jobs would have been affected, here as everywhere. Would we return? In a flash, as there are so many places to explore.

Ideal location for a quiet relaxing break. Hotel a little tired but spotlessly clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Plenty of choice at meal times. Good expanse of beach and from hotel can walk either way. Wouldn't hesitate to return sometime in the future
