I only stopped here to drink water at the bar after the strenuous climb up the mountain on a touring bike, before jumping into the lake to swim, but this is a great place to spend a night or two if you are touring Austria. Beautiful, quiet, elegant hotel, and you can swim and SUP your heart out.

My wife Ginger and I enjoyed a delightful visit to this hotell in July. In every way, our experiences at the hotel and in the town of Lienz exceeded our expectations. The hotel was beautiful, quaint, yet highly practical. The restaurant was more than we dreamed of, both for breakfast and dinner. For dinner, there were always three options for each course. One night, we were fortunate that they scheduled a buffet strudels--at least 30 different strudels, as well as other accompaniments. The breakfast buffet was spread out over multiple rooms, but our assigned seat was next to the meats and cheeses. Our room overlooked the lake, the Tristachersee. The lake always invited the viewer to jump in. The wellness area including the infinity pool, sauna, and steam bath were fabulous and the hotel's guests know how to make proper use of a sauna The garden behind the wellness area was beautiful and teeming with fish. Alongside the lake, we walked on a path teeming with wildflowers, which offers an excellent view of the hotel. The path can be taken all the way into Lienz, but it's a long walk. And, of course, we enjoyed service from every member of the staff. Our only regrets were that our visit was too short and we should have taken the restaurant’s suggestions for apertifs and wine accompaniments with dinner more often. The hotel provides a variety of free postcards to guests. Upon returning home, we have given postcards of the Parkhotel to several friends and family members to encourage them to visit. We hope to return next year with our children and their children. The grandchildren want to jump in the lake and see the owner, Josef Kreuzer, make flambee. Our visit happened to coincide with the 21st annual street performer festival in Lienz. That too was fabulous and, if you're not ready to go, perhaps a July visit for the street performer festival will be enough to convince!

Outstanding hospitality, service, and some of the very best dishes we had. Service is superb. The lake, mountain, and nature are magical. We'll be staying at least a week next year. We also loved the spa, massage, and hikes.

From the moment I walked into the lobby and was greeted warmly at the front desk, my family and I felt completely at home. Every day were visited by one or more of the owners, often at multiple meals. The food is, of course, outstanding and was served in a lovely space looking out over the lake. The buffet breakfasts featured fresh dairy and meat products from the surrounding valleys, and the fresh fruit spread would be hard to beat. The mango was among the best I've ever eaten. Dinners were 4 - 5 courses of gourmet dishes, with choices between meat, fish, and vegetarian options. The hosts were more than willing to cater to accommodate dietary special requests. Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with a fabulous view over the lake, its forested shores, and the impressive cliff beyond. The only night sounds I noticed were wind in the trees and the occasional slap of a fish from the lake. The property amenities are too many to mention, but the fresh, cold spring water from the tap, warm indoor pool, and complementary rowboat usage were among my favorites. On days when Vienna was sweltering, the Parkhotel site at 830 meters was comfortable day and night. We found the area around Lienz is full of fascinating possibilities: driving the Grossglockner Alpenstrasse in Hohe Tauern National Park, hiking in the Dolomites, visiting Castle Bruck and Roman Aguntum, riding cable cars and summer "luge" roller coasters. We even made a daytrip to Triglav National Park in Slovenia - a beautiful place in the Julian Alps. As we left, the owner came out for a personal "Auf Wiedersehen". In my opinion, this is one of the finest hotels that I have ever had the pleasure to visit.
