My husband and I first visited Six Senses Douro Valley in 2016. We have been dying to come back and this time (Dec 2021) we brought our adult kids. We all had a wonderful time. The dinner in the restaurant was one of the best meals we had during our entire trip to Portugal. The pork chops were delicious! The rooms are large and comfortable. Every afternoon, we sat by the fire in the lounge and had complimentary afternoon tea and cake. The service is really top notch and all the staff are very friendly. I had the best facial in the spa. We enjoyed walking around the property and while the weather did not always cooperate, it did not dampen our enjoyment of the property.

The staff is A+. They say yes and figure things out behind the scenes. Any special request we proposed was always fulfilled and even exceeded our expectations. They also remember all your food and drink presences and lead with those throughout your stay. Very nice and warm touch. The downside? The finishes and artwork. The original building is beautiful, the surroundings are stunning, the wine is world class, but someone somewhere made a call to go cheap on Devore, lighting, fixtures and technology. The lighting in the rooms is blinding and awkward and the controls for temp control and the lighting are counter intuitive and frustrating. Otherwise A+ experience and kudos to the manager Andre for putting together such a great team and training them to this level of world class service.

Yes, all of the glowing reviews are spot-on. This Resort met all of our expectations and exceeded them. We were skeptical about all of the positive reviews but from our arrival to our departure four days later, we were amazed how the employees made us feel welcome and appreciated. Our needs were anticipated with smiles. The food is outstanding because it's fresh and locally grown/raised, and the menu is ever-changing. The spa is amazing, especially the indoor wet area with water massages, saunas and steam rooms. And the activities offered, many complimentary, are fun and different, including tree-climbing up a 100 year old tree! The workshops have a sustainability theme and were interesting and fun. Who knew that yogurt and pickles are so easy to make? Finally, the hotel itself is beautifully designed within a historic palace and gardens; our deluxe room was large with a forest view. The Douro Valley, even in winter, was spectacular. We want to return. soon. Yes, it's not cheap to stay here but we both agreed that it was well worth it.

There aren’t enough words to say how incredibly special this place is. The setting in the Douro is spectacular with terrific views of the vineyards (which our room had—we were also in the newer section which is to die for). The deck was drop dead gorgeous—huge with a wonderful seating area and table for 6. We stayed in a Vineyard Premiere room, which was the best. We came from Porto, an easy 1 hour drive. The room was perfectly decorated and so zen. The bathroom was huge and drop dead gorgeous with an incredible rain shower. Breakfast there was wonderful. Do not miss this hotel if you’re anywhere near the area.
